Serenity was what you would call "type a". Well, maybe not so far on the spectrum, but she did like to have everything in order, she was very ambitious, and time management was her specialty. She was hoping that the risk-for-heart-disease wasn't a certain thing, because heart disease was not something she wantes for her future, but she fell halfway into that category by personality.
Anyways, she really did like to have everything planned before it happened, from how she was going to react to something that happened seconds ago to college next year. She wasn't going to wait a year, of course, that would be ridiculous. Her mother didn't have a lot of money, and honestly Rowan was less academic than she was, so Serenity knew she would have to have a lot of scholarships to pay for most of her tuition at Barrie University (where she had already been accepted), and a job for things like textbooks. She had a lot of academic merit, but she wanted something to seal the deal, so she pondered what else she could possibly do.
It came to her while in the middle of her contemporary issues class, when they were talking about people running for local political office. Politics and government had been interesting to Serenity since she moved (back?) to America, mainly because the crime rate bothered her in Detroit and in New York because of personal issues dealing with her past. So she wanted to change that, and the only way to do that was to either become a vigilante (though from what little she knew about comic books, they were always frowned upon in the public eye) or run for a political office. So she chose the latter.
They had been given a big assignment due at the end of the semester which was basically a report and/or presentation on one of the current candidates for local offices, and after some research, a man struck her as the one. To do the report on, obviously.
David Winters was honest, unlike most in this field of work, and Serenity could tell after reading further into him. She was a great judge of character, after all (most of the times), and so she decided she would do her project on him. But no, that wasn't enough.
She was killing two birds with one application, really. Looking good to people who give money to college kids and making that project easy as pie. So she became an intern at the office of David Winters.
It was something she would have to balance well with school and her job at Pipin' Hot Tea, but she could do it. The only thing she had to give up was working at the Disney Store like she had wanted, but it was worth it, to be honest. She was learning a lot about how offices ran, what people were like, and how to make the perfect cup of coffee.
She wasn't expecting to be anything more than a coffee runner, of course, but she didn't mind. It taught her to be fast and how to memorize things better and it would help her in the future. And to be honest, she made the best coffee out of any of the interns.
At least, so she thought, until David Winters himself had called her into his office. Serenity was optimistic until she had reason not to be, and this was the reason. What had she done? Gotten the coffees mixed up? No, that probably wouldn't have been that big of a deal... did she deliver the wrong errand to the wrong person? Oh, that sounded like something she would have done the day after that Silas ordeal! Frantic, she knew she had to calm down. So she took a few deep breaths and fixed her hair a little bit and smiled and knocked on the door to her boss' office.
