PRIDEFUL, TALENTED, PRETENTIOUS
Felice has been a privileged child for most of her life. She grew up in the pompous high culture of Parisian elite, and it has very obviously rubbed off on her. Her speech sounds snobby and affected even in French, mostly because it is. She is very arrogant and feels entitled to good things, talent, and the praise of others. She truly is talented, though. Her dancing is exceptional and branches through several styles, and she is very fashionable and actually hardworking when it comes to her skills. She works to impress, but still expects it. If her talent level does not impress, she often tries to impress with things she doesn't really know much about, or else shoots off random French to make herself sound educated to stupid Americans because, "let's face it, Europeans are MUCH more sophisticated and educated by nature than they will ever be."

GULLIBLE, STUBBORN, NAIVE
One of the most obvious examples of Felice's gullible tendencies is her belief in the paranormal even though she hasn't actually run into much true evidence along the lines of paranormal happenings. She believes Madame Giry to be a paranormal extension of herself, even though she has cryptically explained the concept of personifications to her. Felice truly does have some medium-like qualities, but it only carries to an ability to see other's personifications. She can only see them when they can themselves, unless they are from her same story, but she adamantly believes them to be collections of unexplainable ectoplasm or some other nonsensical explanation. Felice hears voices, but it's usually Madame Giry's, or one of the voices in HER head. She tries her hand at ghost hunting, but is rarely successful.

CARING, DELUSIONAL, DOORMAT
Felice will believe almost anything she's told to be truth, but this is because she believes in a higher moral standard than most of the world abides by. Even her own sense of morals has been corrupted by her upbringing, and sometimes she feels she can't help but lie. She cares about people more than she likes to admit, but once you lose her trust in you it will be gone for a long time. She's pulled toward talented people, and often believes they can do no wrong, as she herself is talented and can do no wrong. Unfortunately, many people walk all over her trustworthy nature. Once you've earned her trust, it's very hard to lose it. She's critical, but easily adoring. She has a particular love for a phantom she's only ever heard in her dreams, but he has the most brilliant voice. She will dance to music unheard by others, his voice on replay in her mind.

Olivier Giraud had grown up in society's lap, practically drinking caviar from the bottle. He was born into privilege because his ancestor had founded Giry Inc. (its modern name) before the idea of factories had fully developed. It had passed through so many stages of production types that by the time the French Revolution rolled around it was used to sew banners, manufacture weapons, create rebellious posters for revolutionaries, and was large enough to act as a base. These days it remains multi-purpose, but is not nearly as respected by the underprivileged, nor is it respectful towards them. Being the first-born to the CEO, he was naturally next in line. Becoming Vice President right after graduating from college at 20, no one could doubt his intelligence or skill with any excuse but bitter jealousy. His father retired early, 16 years and trillions of dollars later, and Olivier took over with little to no debate.

By this time, Giry Inc. had obtained a fairly large fashion and magazine department, even larger for being based in Paris. Olivier became infatuated with an innumerable amount of young models, adding to her already long string of rumored lovers. After many years of balancing business and pleasure, he set his eyes on the Parisian "It Girl," called simply Ysabel. Though he'd been affected by age, and his was more than twice hers, he was still handsome, and she was attracted to his appearance as much as his power and money. They were both soon captivated by the other's charm, and married after two months of courtship. Just a month after that, Ysabel was pregnant. Felice was a little over a month old and Ysabel back in modeling shape by the couple's first anniversary.

When her parents were home, they praised Felice on how pretty she looked in those designer clothes, how much her private tutor complimented her in every update, how much the maids and nannies absolutely adored her, and they always brought presents. Her father travelled less than her mother, but he was still gone 2/3 of the year. That is, until he got sick. He tried to hide it at first, but the high life had taken its toll, and every wine-filled business dinner took a little more of his health with it. Finally, one day he found he simply couldn't get out of bed. For the first time, he saw the rapidly greying hair and skin, the coarse and vein-filled hands, how everything about him seemed to sag, finally taking his attractiveness down with it. Felice, it seemed, was the only one who never noticed these things in him. She adored her father mother and would've done anything for him, dancing to cheer him on his deathbed with two new routines daily. She enjoyed his intelligent and humorous company much more than her vapid, shallow mother's. In his will, Olivier requested Ysabel and Felice lived with his younger brother Xavier, who was his representative of New York and the most likely to succeed Olivier after his death. And succeed his brother he did. Xavier became CEO without a doubt raised. He even shifted the company's main focus to New York as he was settled down with three kids and a long-retired, though still pretty, American model for a wife.

Felice was 14, her mother 32 when they moved to America. Ysabel was hired as a consultant to the New York branch, and often travelled back to Paris for updates. She never took her daughter, insisting that she needed to learn to adjust to her new home. Felice very much missed her life as a proud, important Parisian, but her mother assured her that there would be many more opportunities to expand her dance in America. And she wasn't wrong. Felice soon picked up a vast number of smiles, ranging from hip-hop (which she secretly enjoyed... "but just a little!") to Victorian Waltz, but her heart remained set on Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Modern, and Lyrical Dance. Though she was successful in this area, as dance was an international language in itself, it was one of the few things in America she didn't have much trouble adjusting to. She had more difficulty picking up the English language than she anticipated, and couldn't understand why her waitresses always laughed when she asked for a sample of wine. It was all a bit of a culture shock, and she continues to not understand the age requirement when it's only wine anyways. Walking to lunch from dance studios the summer she moved didn't help, as much of the language she heard there was not very pleasant, and only her step-siblings were willing to teach her exactly what those things meant. Felice's private tutor was paid for to help her with regular studies and some extensive English courses through her first three school years in New York.

About six months after they arrived in their new country, Xavier suddenly seemed to grow severely engrossed in his work. "It's going to be a big year, I can feel it," was all he would comment if anything was brought up about his new habits. His wife, Elliot, wasn't very happy about it, but she kept a strong face and tried her best to support him. At the same time, Ysabel started spending much more time at the New York location. At first, Felice was excited because she thought it meant she would have more time to spend with her mother and talk about France and all she missed. However, the woman very rarely came home from the office in time to see her daughter to bed, sometimes not arriving until early morning and then sleeping the whole day, only to work again all night and the next day.

Rumors started among the staff that a maid had seen Ysabel and Xavier passionately kissing on the back porch before slipping into the pool house. No one paid much attention to it at first, and Felice didn't believe a word of it anyways. That is, until Elliot caught her husband and his ex-sister-in-law in the act. She was furious, and started on a destructive rampage. She broke things, threw two vases at the naked lovers, tossed and knocked things down the stairs, and finally destroyed a family portrait taken that year by setting the part with Ysabel's face on fire. She would've set the girl herself on fire if Xavier hadn't blocked her and accidentally pushed her down a flight of stairs. Shocked at himself, he tried to help her, but she had dashed down two more flights and out of the front door sobbing before he could fully react. She lost the custody battle for her rampage and a drinking problem fabricated by Giry Inc.'s huge number of lawyers representing Xavier. Just about a year and three months after Ysabel had moved with her daughter, she was married to the young girl's Uncle.

Felice's step-siblings started to bully her. The words only they had bothered to teach her they now used against her, calling her "Cunt," "Bitch," "Whore," "Slut," and her mother much worse things. This started as soon as Xavier and Ysabel left for their honeymoon, Alison muttering, "Stupid slut," under her breath before turning the insults on Felice instead. The lovebird's return only strengthened the older boy and girl's hate of her. Meredith continued to be nice to Felice, bringing her food late at night when everyone else had gone to bed. It was one of these nights that Felice first discovered the paranormal. She woke up to a scratching noise in her room and assumed it was Meredith trying to get her attention. But when she got up and opened the door, there was a plate with scrambled eggs, sausage, and a pile of strawberries and kiwis with a scrawled out apology in Meredith's sloppy French. It was covered with plastic wrap, but it had obviously been there a while, as she finally noticed that it was 3:00 AM and Meredith could barely stay up to eleven without difficulty. The younger girl also made sure to heat the food before bringing it, but it felt ice cold when Felice picked it up. Momentarily forgetting the odd scratching, she turned and put the plate on her bed before hopping on herself. She ate, but felt oddly nervous the whole time, and kept looking to see if Mer had crawled into her room and gone to sleep again. When she turned her lamp off, a brighter light overtook her room, in the form of a glowing red man staring straight at her. She tried to scream, but nothing came, and instead she just gaped. He slowly turned his body, but his head and eyes stayed completely fixed on her. Everything was still. Then, he shot towards her and passed straight through the bed to her and through the wall behind her. She finally found her voice, and couldn't stop screaming. She woke the whole house up. They assured her it was just a bad nightmare, but Felice was convinced that she'd been awake, and presented the plate (which she said she'd gotten herself to protect Mer from her siblings' wrath) as evidence, but no one believed her. As if the bullying wasn't enough of a toll on her pride, even the servants started to look at her strangely, and they started whispering too.

After this, Felice started going ghost-hunting. She would sneak into abandoned buildings after dark, find houses that had been rumored to be paranormally active, and even ordered a collection of scientific equipment for the purpose. But the one thing that truly convinced her she was on the right track was when an old woman who called herself "Madame Giry" started following her after Felice visited an old opera house.

Then she got caught sneaking out.

When Xavier questioned her, she told the original story again, but he didn't believe her. She tried to explain that she wasn't going to a party or anything, that even though she was getting a ride from a guyfriend didn't mean anything inappropriate would happen. After much yelling and cursing in French, Meredith found her way to the makeshift "interrogation room." Becoming angry, she stopped them both and scolded her father. She told him all about what Felice was dealing with at home and shamed him for not noticing. Felice sat silently after trying to shush Meredith many times to save her pride, and the rest of the night sulked in the corner of the couch, flinching away when Xavier tried to apologize, but accepting it nonetheless.
The next day, Xavier and Ysabel forced Alison and Logan to apologize, then told Felice that she would be sent to a boarding school to assure this wouldn't happen again.

At first, Felice was offended. She felt like she was the one being punished. Why else would they be sending her away!? They tried to explain as best they could that she needed to experience more of New York than the mansion, and a change of scenery would do her better than it would her siblings. Besides, they mentioned, she was more adjusted to moving than her siblings anyways, and she could visit every holiday and would be sent money every week. She would even be that much closer to her dance studio! In the end, Felice was still a little wounded, but more agreeable to the idea.

She arrived at Baum at the beginning of her Junior year, and has been there for only a few months. She isn't adjusted to her new life at all yet, but thanks to three years of intense English lessons, she at least understands most things. However, she remains easily confused by some simple English phrases, and has a habit of talking with her hands because she couldn't communicate properly in her house without them. She desperately wants to find another person who speaks French, and American people bother her only because they're better at speaking the language than she is. And that never sat well with her.

story name The Phantom of the Opera
backstory Sobasically, Madame Giry was this goth old lady who ran the Phantom's box and was pretty much his only actual friend. She was reeeeeeeally really prideful to the point of pretending everyone knew her when they had no idea that she even existed until the managers called her in. She believed in the ghost and wasn't afraid to say it outright, and was the first after Christine to even know the Opera Ghost was male. She was a widow and the mother of Meg Giry, though later adaptations introduce the idea of Meg being Erik's daughter as well. They also say that Mme. Giry was the one to release the Phantom from circus imprisonment and hide him in the Opera House, but any way you look at it reveals one thing: the Madame's undying faith in Erik. In the ALW version, Mme. Giry is the dance instructor, hence Felice's passion for dance, and also because I think Erik would be more tolerant of her if she had SOME talent... You'll see, I'm making a request right after I'm through with this.
