She also releases a golden, glittery sort of fairy-dust into the air (a la the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella and the Blue Fairy in Pinocchio) when she casts a spell. Be on the lookout for it – it could save you from being turned into a cat.

personality Mo is a moral nihilist – which is a nice way of saying she doesn’t believe being nice in any form or way. Moral nihilists believe moral values were conjured up by people, and the rest of the world is simply following them. She doesn’t have many qualms against robbing a bank or killing a man (no, she hasn’t done it yet, and nihilism or not, she probably would be pretty disturbed if she actually snuffed a person) on the grounds that there should be no such thing as morality and the only thing that can stop us from doing bad is the law (built upon flimsy moral rules, anyway).
Though she doesn’t believe her life has to be ruled by rules that don’t really exist, she’s not very firm in her nihilism. Don’t be surprised to see that she can be a human being when the moment calls for it. (If your broke your leg, she’d probably help you up. Although she might regret it later and try to punch you.) Though it’s against her code of conduct, she, like every other person on the planet, is still instinctively nice. She does, on occasion, see her nagging need for niceties as a weakness.

Since her awakening, she has minor magical abilities which she uses liberally. Even though her powers are supposed to be a secret, (as stressed by the annoying voice in her head every so often,) expect the unexpected around her.
And, contrary to the very French surname, (somewhere along the lines of her English heritage, something went very wrong,) Mo is a born-and-bred Englishwoman.

past You’re probably wondering where in hell somebody with the name ‘Emily’ could wind up with a nickname like ‘Mo’. And, well, that’s a very good question.

You see, in Cadbury Castle, there’s an actual castle. (Gasp in shock!) Or, at least, the ruins of it. And if you ever wanted to find Emily as a child, your best bet was playing around in the ruins. It was a designated tourist area, but that never stopped her from sneaking into it and hiding amongst the stones. She couldn’t explain why, exactly, but being there made her feel at home. During primary school when they had to annotate Michael Ende’s Momo (a story about a girl who lives in the ruins of an amphitheatre), the nickname Momo began to stick to her.

When she got old enough to stand up for herself, she shortened her nickname to Mo – though her parents (and her long, indeterminable string of English ex-boyfriends) are still pretty fond of calling her Momo.

Her mother was a seamstress and, besides selling dresses the town girls uses for parties, had a vast collection of antique dresses. As far as Mo could tell, they were family heirlooms and even her father was proud of them. The most valuable of them all, though, was the oldest – a grubby moth-eaten number that as supposed to be enchanted.

Her powers picked themselves up shortly after she graduated from junior college, during the Grad Night prom when she wore the ‘enchanted dress of awe’ for the party. It was an old family tradition (“My mother did it and her mother did it…”) and, between mouthfuls of catered hotel food and wishing someone would ask her to dance, she was dying from the mortification of wearing something so oversized and outdated. No one asked her to dance that night, although plenty of people sniggered at the dress (most didn’t even try to hide their amusement). Finally, she confronted them – a bad idea – and it escalated into a brawl. After getting her dress doused in party punch and ripped at the hems, she was forcibly expelled from the party.

As she stumbled home battered and slightly tipsy from party-grade alcohol, she noticed the sound of a baby raven nearby. Gathering enough of her befuddled mind together, she concluded it fell out of its nest – broke its wings, maybe. She bent down to pick it up, and as she got up, came face-to-face with Morgan le Fay.

Putting it off as an alcohol-induced hallucination, she didn’t see much harm about chatting with it amiably. Morgan was, apparently, thoroughly angered at the world for reasons beyond Mo, and even more so for her schoolmates ruining her enchanted dress (she swore she’d worn it at Mordred’s takeover of Camelot). While Mo didn’t exactly share her misanthropist tendencies, she was glad to have somebody on her side that night. They struck an agreement that night – Mo would listen, as Morgan would teach her all she knew – maybe, somehow, she could right some of the wrong done to this sordid world.

In all that chaos, she almost forgot to take the raven home; home, where she was both berated by her parents for ruining the heirloom dress and comforted for being kicked out of the party. Her father made a bed for the raven (dubbed ‘Lenore’ once they decided it was a girl) and it hasn’t left Mo’s side since.


present Shortly after the prom incident, Mo applied for a Philosophy and Psychology course in America, and shipped off to New York with Lenore (and some of her mom's gown collection 'for good luck') once it was approved.

However, with Lenore came the voice in her head, a tiny, annoying schizophrenia symptom that refused to shut up. It was, of course, Morgan again, constantly telling her what to do. And, though she tired to shut out her new mentor, she couldn’t help but agree with some of her points. She’s developed a sense of moral nihilism from this little voice in her head, and some misanthropic leanings, but she’s (probably) still a sweet girl at heart.

Eventually, she grew disenchanted with her school – there wasn’t anything she was learning there that Morgan didn’t seem to already know (except terminology and jargon, and that she could find in books) – and dropped out partially. She takes courses on-and-off, for the diploma, but hasn’t felt the need to be bodily in a classroom for a long, long time. Her parents, if they had any qualms about their daughter being a dropout, have been pretty silent.

Not one for sticking to social norms, Mo’s nihilism can be seen in her behavior – she points and laughs at people who fall down (well, occasionally), and steals food from the plates of other people when they sit together – although her ‘being bad’ streak has never gone past the border and into criminal activity.

As per her awakening, Morgan has been teaching Mo magic. At first it was tiny things, like hovering a pencil in the air, but now, Mo’s not half-bad at minor mind control and turning invisible is a breeze for her. (See ‘Powers’ below) The worst thing she’s ever done, however, was turn a man she met in a diner into a cat after spilling Ketchup on his shirt. Even Morgan herself isn’t entirely sure how she did it, and doesn’t have much of a clue how to reverse it either.

She currently lives at the Jacob’s Apartments, where her powers have (in a very Molly Moon-esque manner) convinced the doorman she lives on the seventh floor rent-free.

backstory Morgan le Fay (sometimes called Morgana) is the half-sister of King Arthur. The roles she plays in the myths vary from a sagely healer to a vicious antagonist (though her motivation against Camelot is never explicitly stated). Her son, Mordred, ultimately causes the death of Arthur – however, Morgan herself can be seen ferrying Arthur to Avalon near the end of his life.

She's closely associated with ravens – her totem animal – and in some myths where she's the Queen of of the Dubh Sidhe (Dark Fairies! Like the kind you find on neopets!), her people transform into ravens to interact with the mortal realm.
