personality
Elliot was never that active of a kid. When his Dad came and picked him up, he tried to get Elliot to do the things that normal boys did with their fathers. Playing catch, and running around together, and just playing. But, though Elliot was only eleven, he'd much rather be reading a book or something else that didn't require much movement. The only times he was ever truly active was when he'd played with his brother, and his father had taken him away.
Elliot has recently discovered he has a talent and a passion for singing. He's always loathed sports, both watching them and participating. Many people would and most do call him girly for his interests, but he has, over the years, developed the ability to simply not care what people think. It's almost like a switch that he can turn on and off. If he respects you, then he'll pay attention. If he doesn't, you might as well start talking to walls because that's the same amount of response you'll get from him. If he doesn't know you, he'll pay attention as well, and decide whether or not you're worth carrying on a conversation with. He's actually usually too nice of a guy, so he'll most likely count you in as a buddy as long as you don't insult him when you first meet.
past
Elliot was born without his parents being married. His father, Shane Ellison, promised he'd marry Kari Simmers, but never did. After the baby was born, his friends threw him a "Congrats! You're a Dad!" party, and Kari didn't see him for years after. Three years earlier, she'd fallen for the same lies, and she never saw that man again in her life. Having eloped twice without marrying, her parents basically disowned her, and Kari moved away from her large city to a small country farming town where no one knew what she'd done in the past.
You'd think that such a city girl would never be able to make the switch to country living. Especially switching to the life of a farmer, but that's exactly what she did. Kari was always a hard worker, and was in a gardening club back in the city, so she didn't have much trouble with farming. Her mother came to find her a few years later, when Elliot was only four, and he doesn't remember much about it, but she was offered a chance to go back to the city and live with her parents, but declined. Kari had always been stubborn and had always been determined to prove she could handle things on her own.
When Elliot was eleven, his Dad showed up. Now, I know what you're thinking. Big reunion, everyone's soooo happy and there're hugs and crying and a whole bunch of sappy shit. That wasn't the case at all. There was Kari yelling at Shane and Elliot looking from one to the other, not comprehending for a moment who this man was.. It was only a month later, on his twelfth birthday, that he sat in a courtroom to be told that he was now going to live with his real father, because they'd decided that Kari wasn't fit to take care of two children by herself on a farming budget. Elliot didn't know what to think other than that he wanted to keep his last name since Elliot Ellison sounded stupid. So he moved to a big condo in Maine, where his father had based his own company and was raking in the cash.
When Elliot discovered just how rich his father had become, he only resented him. He was making all of this money and had enough to spare, but he'd never sent his mother a dime. If things were going so well, why had he waited so long to contact him? Why was Kari still struggling to put food on the table while Shane was making 14,ooo a month!? The more he thought, the less he saw how this man could be his father, and never for a second saw how his mother could love such a jerk.
When Elliot was fourteen, things started getting more difficult. As puberty started to hit, so did his rebellious streak. He got his strong will and stubbornness from his mother, but his own way was much more subtle. When his father tried to talk to him and Elliot was annoyed, he'd stop paying attention and sometimes fall asleep. It fit his introverted lifestyle well, and he used the same methods in school. As a result, that year was very hard for him. He knew he could do the work if he tried, he simply didn't care enough to. Because of this, he flunked eighth grade.
That summer, he was diagnosed with Narcolepsy. It wasn't really a shock to him. He always knew he'd been overly sleepy, and now he had a reason to be. Because of this, his father convinced the school that his child had "special needs" and was not truly given a fair chance. Elliot attended the summer school, and passed to move on to high school. But his father declared that he wouldn't have anything more to do with this town's education, and sent Elliot to an expensive boarding school in New York. Elliot wasn't an idiot, though. He noticed that his father had been bringing home girls, though he wasn't sure exactly how long it had been going on without him noticing. His father wanted him out of the house. Elliot didn't want anything more to do with him. It was as simple as that.
present
Elliot managed to pass freshman year with flying colors, to the surprise of many of his friends who knew how he almost failed last year. Because of his narcolepsy, he usually sits out of Gym, and is almost always late to his classes. Now he's a sophomore at Baum Academy. Though his father gave him the option to come home this year, he declined, knowing that Shane would probably find another way to get him out.
Despite the fact that he was sent to New York so that his father could have sex without worrying about whether Elliot was awake or if he heard. Elliot feels he does better when he's not around his father. He doesn't sleep as much as he used to, though the condition is still present. He enjoys being with his roommate and friends, and he even has a part-time job so he doesn't rely on his father sending money as much.
