"Oh, yeah, I guess it's pretty cool? I mean, it is school, so it can't exactly be the most amazing place in the world," Zirconium said, smiling, trying to let go of the tension and awkwardness. "But yeah, um, I like it, I guess."
Well, at least he hadn't like, shunned her for being in high school. He wasn't too much of an elite, self-righteous college student to speak to high schoolers, or eat muffins with them, apparently.
"Sure, the ones they sell here are really good," she said, not mentioning the fact that she'd just eaten a muffin before meeting him. She wasn't very full anyway, and it had been a really good muffin; she wouldn't mind getting another one. Zirconium began walking towards the café section of the museum, looking around at the signs to make sure she was going in the right direction.
“So do you go to Barrie University?” she asked. She thought Gabe had seemed a bit uncomfortable before, when she’d asked him about his major, but she was still interested. Zirconium had been thinking about college a bit lately, and had browsed the website for J. Barrie University for over an hour only a few days before. It seemed like a pretty okay college; it was in state – in city, even, and it wasn’t overly expensive like she knew some were. And it wasn’t one of those specialty colleges where everyone was majoring in something like music or taking pre-med. She figured it probably wouldn’t be too difficult for her to get into a general, well-rounded college like that, since she didn’t really focus her studies on anything in particular, and she did okay in school.
Zirconium looked at Gabe. He was pretty tall, compared to her, and he wasn’t scrawny like the guys in her high school. What was he, a sophomore? Junior, maybe? His hint of a beard made her think he was probably older. In his twenties, at least. Usually facial hair just ended up looking sloppy or weird, even, but Gabe could actually pull it off. She was pretty sure he would look better without it, but still.
Stopping at the small counter of the café, Zirconium scanned the racks of muffins and pastries, looking for one of the nice blueberry ones she’d had earlier. She tentatively stepped aside to let Gabe go ahead of her, not sure what she was going to buy yet.

(I'm just kind of assuming that Gabe kind of has a beard, since that's what is in his picture)
