That grin. That stupid, stupid grin. What the hell!? Did she have fucking butterflies? Because of Rhys’ grin?! Okay. That was so not cool. It had been years since she’d had butterflies. And now she was getting them because of her inappropriate, crazy boss?! She needed a shrink. Right now. Head racing, she chose to ignore his comment about thighs. Hell. She hadn’t even heard it all.
Yeah. She hadn’t been laid in two weeks. Of course she was uptight. A massage? That sounded nice. But she didn’t like Sue Lin. At all. She was a little bitch. “A massage?” she asked him, tentatively. Part of her wanted to say yes (A part she totally didn’t understand!!!), but the other part was like, what the fuck Rhys? And then the damn sexy look. (Again, what the fuck?!) She was at a loss for words. Yes? Or no?!
Her anger was slowly fading into down-right confusion. What had been going on with her lately? She was noticing everything that Rhys did and said. Her confusion grew when he wrapped his arms around her. Since when did Rhys give her butterflies?! And since when was he so touchy-feely with her? What had suddenly changed? Was she missing something here?!
He missed her? Did he just admit that he missed her? Ah! Those pesky thoughts again!! “I was really busy while you were gone. People don’t work as hard when you’re gone. I had to do my job, and yours, too. I didn’t have time for phone calls. I should have made sure to at least send you a few e-mails. I’m sorry.” Wait! Did she just…apologize to…Rhys? She never said sorry. She just wanted to hit her head onto her desk right now. But it was impossible, seeing as she was sitting on it, and Rhys was using her as his stupid pillow, still.
Oh, it was no lie that she’d missed him. But she was not going to admit it. Nope. No way in hell. Not even if pigs could fly. Nope. “I missed you, too, Rhys,” Candace sighed. Wait. Had she not just told herself she wouldn’t admit that?! So why had she? What. The. Fuck!?
Had he slipped something into her drink??

“I was really busy while you were gone. People don’t work as hard when you’re gone. I had to do my job, and yours, too. I didn’t have time for phone calls. I should have made sure to at least send you a few e-mails. I’m sorry.”
Rhys. Was. Stunned. Had he seriously just received an apology from Candace? His Candace? The one woman in the entire seventeen-floor building that didn't give a shit whether she was wrong or not because she was always right? What the hell had happened between now and three minu -
“I missed you, too, Rhys,”
Rhys stared. "Wow." He got up, but only enough to spin around in the chair so he was right up against her knees. "Wow." Not very eloquent, but his brain was kind of broken at the moment. Candace was being human. No, Candace was being vulnerable. What. The. Hell.
"Candace..." He could barely breathe. What the hell was up today. Was she sick? Was she dying? "You have no idea..." What was he supposed to say? Seeing her like this just made him remember how freaking beautiful she was. Rhys stood, leaning forward to cup her face in his hands. She wouldn't meet his eyes, but he could see she was just as confused as he was. It made him smile. "Candy, you know when you haven't got on your nasty armor and everything, you literally make me melt."
It was probably against every rule of business etiquette he'd ever forgotten to pay attention to, but Rhys found himself not caring. Dipping slowly, he brushed his lips against her, and felt himself flush. When she didn't pull away, he pushed closer, deepening the kiss and pulling her closer. His head swam, and every inch of his skin felt like fire. This was amazing. If he had known kissing felt like this he would have done it a long time ago. Damn. Maybe he could do this every day.
"Damn, but that was amazing."

Oh God. She. Just. Told. Him. Sorry. And he was shocked. Why was she so stupid? Why did she care? Ugh. She needed to go home, and go to sleep. Pretend she’d never opened up. It would be all better in the morning. Yup. That would totally work. Right? No. Of course not. Because now Rhys was staring at her, wide-eyed.
Mother fucker. And now he was facing her. Looking up at her. Wide-eyed. Ugh, ugh, ugh! Could she head desk now?! Please?! He was at a loss for words as he tried to speak to her. And she had no idea what to say, either. What the fuck else would slip out if she opened her mouth?! Nothing good. Only things she’d beat herself up over.
“Candace,” The way he said her name put a chill down her spine, “You have no idea…” And now he was standing. And holding her face. She had to look away. There was too much going through her mind. Way too much. “Candy, you know when you haven’t got on your nasty armor and everything, you literally make me melt,” She hated being called Candy. So why wasn’t she telling him not to call her that ever again, like normal!?
And then he did it. The bastard. She’d kept her heart under lock and key for a reason. And all Rhys had to do was brush his lips against hers, and her locks broke? Bastard. Bastard. She was so mad at him right now. Freaking pissed. So why wasn’t she pulling away? Why were her eyes closed? WHY DID SHE HAVE BUTTERFLIES? And why were they jumping now that he was really kissing her? And pulling her closer?
The fuck was this sorcery? She’d never kissed anyone like this before. She’d never had a kiss feel so…right. So…fiery. Stupid Rhys! Making her let her guard down then kissing her. She hated relationships. And feelings. And yet, she had feelings. For her boss. But it was so amazing! Her eyes stayed closed as she felt Rhys pull away.
Okay. Maybe this was a dream. And she was totally going to wake up. Any minute now. Annnny time now. Yup. She was going to wake up. “Damn, but that was amazing” she heard, and it echoed through her head. This was no dream. Her boss had just kissed her like no man had ever kissed her before.
And she had loved every second of it. What the fuck.
"I-I'm going to go take my lunch now!" Candace mumbled. What was she supposed to say to him? He was her boss for crying out loud! Feeling awkward, and creeped out, she pushed past him and practically ran out the door. She needed a lunch; she needed to get away. Like, seriously, what the fuck had just happened?!
Notes: There is something that I gotta say. It's disgusting, how I love you. God, I hate me. I could kill you. Cause your messing up my name. Gotta walk my talk my fame, but I just want to touch your face. It's disgusting. It's disgusting, how you changed me. From a bandit to a baby. Thinking about gotta change my name, If I'm gonna walk this walk of shame. Look at what you do to me. It's disgusting. Lunch?
The word swam around his head for a minute before finding purchase on a stray boulder of thought, and then all hell broke loose.
Where the hell was she going?
"Where the hell are you going?" He had taken off after her before he'd even realized it, barreling past the receptionists desk at a speed he would have fired someone for. Damn, she could move. Rhys never fully understood how women managed to get from place to place in those contraptions they strapped to their feet, but Candace seemed to be an expert. "You just got here! You can't take lunch yet."
But luck seemed to be with him. He caught up to her at the elevator. He strolled up to her casually, slipping an arm around her shoulders, lest he set off the office rumour mill. Not like it probably wasn't already churning fit to pour out cheese or anything. They'd ran across the floor; he was sure 'J' had called someone already and that some sort of story was already circulating through the building. It was probably fuel to the flame he'd set off with his department-wide announcement minutes ago. Rhys sighed.
"You could have given me a heads up, there, you know," he murmured. "You had to have known you wouldn't get away from me that easily."

Wait. Was he following her? Did he seriously not get that he’d just freaked her the fuck out, and that she needed to get away? So why was he chasing after her? Ugh! Stupid, stupid Rhys! She could hear the secretary gasp in surprise as she hurried past, followed by Rhys. And she swore she could hear her get on the phone, too. Great. Wonderful. Rumors.
Why the fuck was this elevator so slow!? It allowed Rhys to catch up to her. And put his arm around her. Annoyed, she shrugged it off. “A heads up? What the fuck for?” she snapped, crossing her arms. She told him she was leaving. Was that not heads up enough? What was up with him? Was there something in the water?
“Why, did that,” she gestured awkwardly at her office, “Just happen?” Hopefully he would understand what she was talking about. She didn’t want to say it out loud. Because that would make it real, and not some sort of daydream or some shit. And just thinking about it was giving her butterflies again. Especially with him so close to her.
What was wrong with her? Why didn’t he just let her leave? Was he really that oblivious? That he couldn’t tell that she was freaked out and confused?? Was she going to have to flat out tell him that she—no. She wasn’t going to say it. Not even in her head. No. No. No! She wasn’t allowed to have thoughts like that. Or feelings. No. None of that.
Maybe she should make a run for the stairs. She could totally out-run him on those, right?

Wait...why wasn't she happy with this?
"Sorry, then," he mumbled, slipping his jilted hand into his pocket. Kissing people was good, right? It was what adults did when they were interested in each other?
Was he interested in Candace? He didn't know. The kiss hadn't actually felt as brain-melting as the forbidden-to-think-about one with Jamie. But maybe that was because the kiss itself was forbidden? He didn't think guys were supposed to go about kissing guys so the whole 'this-is-so-wrong-I'm-gonna-get-in-trouble' aspect made it more incredible than it would have been originally?
This was a thought process for another day, as he needed to focus on the matter at hand. The elevator dinged a second before the doors slid open. Rhys stepped in, easing himself into a corner and studying his shoes. He liked Candace. He knew she was hot. She was also genuinely beautiful, when she wasn't ranting at some poor soul (usually him). Was she relationship material? He'd never seen her interested in anything other than work and shopping, so he didn't think he could answer that questions. Just because she was a bitch at work didn't mean she was everywhere else....right?
But if he had to base her 'girlfriend worthiness' by the office alone....Candace came up short. But he liked Candace. Didn't he? He liked looking at her, certainly, but he loved pissing her off. It was more than a game to him. Seeing her eyes light up with fury was like music to his ears, and Rhys did love his music. He didn't like her the way he had liked Adeen. No, but then he didn't like Jamie in that way either. With Adeen things were sweet and cuddly and frustrating, but had him hooked by the navel and wouldn't let him go. ZWith Jamie things were a lot more confusing, with a lot more heat. So. Much. Heat.
But with Candace... There was no heat, actually, as evidenced by his still slack slacks. That was curious. The only woman he'd actually ever been with was Adeen, so it wasn't much of a stretch to think that he was only attracted to her, right? But that was madness, so he put it out of his mind.
But he'd gone and kissed Candace, and he didn't even seem to want to delve further into anything with her...which was exactly how Candace was acting. Rhys had overstepped, crossed a boundary that shouldn't have been, and Candace had been uncomfortable, and fled. It didn't take a genius o figure that out, but Rhys was rather confused abotu a number of things lately. Maybe there was a way to ease this over?
"You're right, Candace. I'm sorry." A hand ran through his hair of its own volition. "I crossed a line. That shouldn't have happened and it won't ever again. Honest." He shrugged, meeting her eyes. I really am very sorry. Honestly."
Now he just needed the elevator to stop, and he'd get off, leave her alone for a few days. Weeks, even. Or if he needed her, he'd go through Juniper. Or whatever the hell her name was.

A look crossed Rhys’ face when she shrugged off his arm, and she felt bad. Wait. She felt bad? What the fuck. That kiss had been amazing, and now, all of the sudden, she cared if she hurt Rhys’ feelings?! She had to fight the urge to say sorry as they waited in silence—awkward silence—for the elevator to arrive.
Rhys slid into the back corner, keeping his eyes down. Oh God. Since when did he not keep his head up high? She’d never seen him study his shoes because of awkwardness. He had to be just as confused as her. Right? Because. Neither of them was really planning that—was he? Because if Rhys had been wanting to do that (as much as she hadn’t realized she’d wanted to), then she might have totally hurt his feelings by freaking out like that.
But maybe it was the fact that she knew Rhys was in love with Adeen that freaked her out the most. She was so used to trying to help him do everything perfectly for her, that she never would have expected him to return her attraction. Or even notice it, since she liked to keep it hidden. But, no. She’d had to be sensitive for a minute, and now look where they were? Awkwardly standing in the elevator. Resisting the urge to kiss him again.
She wanted to kiss him again so fucking bad. Possibly saving her, Rhys looked up and spoke. “ You're right, Candace. I'm sorry. I crossed a line. That shouldn't have happened and it won't ever again. Honest. I really am very sorry. Honestly.” She took in his words with a small frown. Did he regret kissing her? Or did he just say sorry because he thought she was uninterested? Or was it both? But here they were. Standing next to each other in a small elevator, looking each other in the eyes. It would be so easy to just kiss again.
His statement was still ringing through her head. What if she wanted it to happen again? Like this very instant? How would he react if she just went for it? She bit her lip and looked back up, studying his face. It would be so easy. Maybe then she’d know how she really felt about it. But she was scared. Since when was she too scared to kiss someone? Okay. Fuck it. She needed to know. Before she could stop herself, she slammed the ‘stop’ button, and turned back to Rhys. After taking a quick, deep breath, she pushed her lips up to Rhys again.
Oh God. It was just as amazing as their last kiss. Damn it. She was hoping it wouldn’t be. Because she had butterflies. And butterflies meant feelings. Which Candace was against. But, the motherfucker had gotten her to have feelings. She pulled away from Rhys, extremely nervous, and quickly pressed the button to make the elevator to go again. Thankfully, she had stopped it right between the second and first floors, and she managed to get off before Rhys could say a word.
She needed to take a walk.
Notes: Hope you don’t mind that I made her kiss him. It’d make her act even more awkward around him next time she saw him. xD Words: 524 (Long post, yeah!) Taged: Rhys Outfit: www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=33059080Credit: Erika. Don’t steal.

To say his brain was jammed was the understatement of the century. Rhys watched through a haze as Candace dashed out of the elevator and down the corridor, his feet glued to the floor, head stuck on the fact that Candace had kissed him this time.
Well shit.
The elevator doors closed with Rhys still standing in the same position he was in as Candace grabbed him, arms awkwardly held to the side, knees slightly bent from where he'd melted/had to lean down to meet her lips. He was hot though, with a stifling, tingling sort of heat that suffuse his skin and made clothing, all clothing, too tight.
Damn.
Apparently, he wasn't doing the kissing thing right.
With a groan, Rhys reached for the button panel, hitting the top floor of the business section. He needed to go to his place, and probably die. And find a way to get rid of ....the tension. The ride back up felt both indefinably long and incredibly short. Long before he would have liked and after a century of waiting the lift finally stopped, and Rhys stumbled out.
"Hold all my calls." He didn't look at Juniper as he stalked past. "I will be out of office for the rest of the day. Reschedule everything." He reached the lift leading directly to his loft, and practically leaned on the call button. he didn't know just what he was going to do about this whole shitbag of a mess he created, but he could not begin to think about it now.
Not that anything would ever be the same again.
