...basics*
name Alexandra Beatrice June Cunningham-Mendel
nickname Alex, usually. But if she knows you very well, you might get away with "Junebug" or "Bertie."
age sixteen
gender female
grade eleventh
hometown Hollywood, California
sexuality straight
personificationThe Princess of The Princess and The Pea
...appearance*
hair color reddish brown
eye color hazel
build Pretty normal.
height 5 ft, 7 inches.
clothing style Alex doesn't neccesarily have a "style." It's more like, "whatever's clean and still fits." She's most just chilling in jeans, a t-shirt, and a hoodie, and although she does have a girly side, pink and ruffles are definately not her thing.
distinctive traits
...personal*
personalityAlexandra is certainly not your typical girl. She does not like “chick flicks,” she is not addicted to texting, and heaven help the person who tries to put her in high heels. On the outside, she appears to be pretty happy in her own skin, but she absolutely hates when people try to convince her she’s something she’s not, and will do everything she can to prove them wrong.
She’s also a bit confusing, and changes her personality depending on where she is. In school, she’s the dorky loner, and is constantly bullied. However, when she’s around her friends, she’s the loudest, most outgoing, and quite possibly one of the most entertaining people you will ever meet. She will only like you if you truly get to know her, and you don’t let her appearance deceive you.
In general, Alexandra is pretty nice, but she can also be extremely irritable and sarcastic. She's pretty tough skinned and can fend for herself, since she's dealt with a lot of crap in her life.
past
Alexandra was born to a family of extraordinarily beautiful people in Hollywood, California. Her mother and father were both actors, her brother was the gifted, handsome athlete and her sister was in every beauty pageant that could possibly be imagined. She was always the odd one of the family, preferring to play video games and shoot hoops than go out and be a socialite. But of course, her family did not find this acceptable- especially her siblings.
Throughout her childhood, they spent their days aspiring on how they could torture her. Of course, it began as little things…taking her stuff, mocking her, lying about her, putting maple syrup in her shampoo bottles. But as they got older, the taunting got even worse. One day, when Alex was ten, her brother put a huge rock under her mattress. All night, she tossed and turned and finally cried from the pain, and couldn’t figure out why her bed suddenly felt like a giant boulder. Her brother was shocked when she trudged into the kitchen the next morning with bruises all over her back, and such bags under her eyes, it was obvious she hadn’t slept at ALL. He pleaded to his parents that he “hadn’t thought it would go that far,” and although he did receive punishment (grounded for only a day), the damage had already been done. For the rest of her life, Alexandra could barely ever sleep. Most would call her an insomniac, but it was more like a phobia. Even though she’s tired a lot of the time, she stays up all night and there’s no way in hell she would ever sleep on a mattress.
That wasn’t the only thing that was not going right in Alex’s life. While everyone around her seemed to be hooked on drama, Alex hated the whole idea of it and wanted to stick to a more easygoing lifestyle. All of her friends tended to be guys, simply because they were less hung up about silly things like “Who’s dating who” and “OMG, LIKE, LETS GET SHOES.” However, her classmates did not seem to agree with her reasoning for hanging at the skate park instead of the mall. By ninth grade, everyone seemed to think she was a lesbian, since she’d never had a boyfriend or shown an interest in having one. Every day, she tried to explain to them that just because she wasn’t into all this “girly” stuff, didn’t mean that she didn’t like guys, but no one seemed to believe her. Instead of helping her and sticking up for her, her siblings were still equally mean to her, and basically confirmed the accusations. Alex tried to laugh it off, but it still hurt that she was considered the ugly duckling of the family, and she just wished that everyone could see her like the little princess her sister was.
present Alexandra's family still lives in Hollywood, and basically shipped her off to New York to become more of a "sophisticated young woman." She's not quite sure why they chose Baum Academy for this mission, considering New York is not exactly the place for "sophisticated young women." It seems that people's perception of her has not changed. She's still considered kind of a freak, and no one really talks to her.
Alex really does want to find a guy. The only difference between her and the other girls at her school is that she won't accept just any asshole.
Also, Alex is very smart, but her grades are only in the B and C range because she doesn't care enough to try. Plus, since she only sleeps about two hours a night, she's never really up to studying. It's a wonder she's even passing school at all.

book title The Princess and the Pea
backstoryThe story tells of a prince who wants to marry a princess, but is having difficulty finding a suitable partner. Something is always wrong with those he meets, and he cannot be certain they are real princesses. One stormy night a young woman drenched with rain seeks shelter in the prince's castle. She claims to be a princess, so the prince's mother decides to test their unexpected guest by placing a pea in the bed she is offered for the night, covered by 20 mattresses and 20 featherbeds. In the morning the guest tells her hosts—in a speech colored with double entendres[1]—that she endured a sleepless night, kept awake by something hard in the bed; which she is certain has bruised her. The prince rejoices. Only a real princess would have the sensitivity to feel a pea through such a quantity of bedding. The two are married, and the pea is placed in the Royal Museum.
