Cleo shifted, folding one leg underneath her and took another sip of her drink. She’d need a refill soon if she kept doing that as if it would beat the tension away. Jamie was awfully quiet and it made her nervous. Jacob had used the word ‘so’ and that made her even more nervous. She sometimes hated knowing him so well… okay not sometimes, just this one moment. Fortunately, it wasn’t weird to eat instead of talk because it was lunch time and she was starving and this was one of her most favorite meals in the whole world. Jamie seemed rather uncomfortable and she finally decided that she wanted everybody here to be relaxed and friendly. Never mind that Jacob was already being so nice; she’d talk to him about that little act of his later.
Cleo turned to face Jamie, gently grabbing hold of his wrist before he could get his wallet. “Stay.” She said, giving him a warm smile. Cleo let go and gestured to Jacob, “see? Jaybird doesn’t mind!” She settled back into her seat, starting at the soup. She didn’t want it to get cold, after all! Cleo squirmed in her seat happily at the mention of French Silk Pie. If Jamie hadn’t been here, Jacob would probably have kept it a secret until they’d been finished with lunch. So, it was all the better that Jamie was here. She nudged him in the side, “you can’t leave without having a slice of pie!” She told him, before shooting a fake-offended glare to Jacob. “Haha,” she said flatly.
Cleo shook her head. “Goodness no,” she agreed. “Never ever again.” Cleo shuddered at the very thought, regretting even considering ordering lobster. She turned to Jamie to explain; “I ordered lobster to be… surprising, I guess. But then this one—” she paused, pointing at Jacob, “went and made me feel all guilty.” Cleo rolled her eyes, before giving Jacob a teasing smile. She hoped she was lightening the mood at least a little bit.
