...personal*
personality Jeremiah is a quiet, practical man. He is humble and although he is a popular person, and people look up to him, he dislikes this attention. “I’m merely a simple man.”
His kindness and compassion is mostly directed toward his younger brother Joseph. He gets kind of exhausted and tired of having to look after Joey. He's responsible, so he always does everything he can for his brother.
He doesn’t really totally go out of his way to make friends and stuff, but people feel compelled to want to spend time with him, since he's supposed to be more popular. Making friends and having relationships aren’t necessarily his top priorities. He doesn’t procrastinate too much, and is very businesslike.
pastIn the summer of 1985, George Marshall of London, England was working as a bank manager’s assistant. He was told that a rather important client was coming in, and he was ordered to bring some tea to the meeting room. When he walked through the doors and to the table, he looked over at the client, to see a lovely young woman. So lovely, in fact, that he tripped on his loose shoe tie and spilled tea across the table and onto the front of the pretty girl’s dress. He fled from the room, embarrassed, and when the meeting was over, a lovely girl approached him in the lobby, a light brown stain down her white dress.
As it turns out, the girl was not angry for her spoiled dress. She rather thought it was sweet of how clumsy and embarrassed he had become, and thought also that George was a handsome young man. He asked for her name and she replied, “Mary Darling.”
After this time, they began to see each other and eventually, George proposed to Mary. They were married in a little country church north of London, in 1988. In December of 1989 they had their first child. A girl, named Angela Mary Marshall.
May 17th, 1991, Jeremiah Andrew Marshall was born to the happy couple. He was a quiet, almost thoughtful baby. He seemed very content and hardly cried.
It was about this time that George decided to move the family to America. So the Marshall’s packed and moved into downtown Roseville, Minnesota.
In 1993, on February 10th, Joseph Elliot Marshall was born. He was an interesting addition to the normally mellow family, with his loud, bouncy attitude. He constantly needed entertainment and attention.
present
"Please, Jeremiah? Just go and get him."
It wasn't particularly difficult to find his younger brother in the London park, especially with his loud, recognizable American accent.
Jeremiah soon spotted him. He was sitting in the sand, with three children, playing with shovels and buckets. A small sand castle sat in the middle, covered in toy soldiers.
"Protect the fort! Oh, no! Aerial attack! Vreeeeeerroooomm.... BOOM!"
Joey crashed the plastic plane into the sand wall, as the children burst into a fit of giggles. The packed sand crumbled and fanned out into a lumpy pile.
The boy in the sand glanced up at his older brother, grinning.
"Jerry, come play!"
Sighing, Jeremiah heaved his brother to his feet by the arm. "Come on, Joey. We need to go back. Mum and Aunt Elizabeth are waiting to eat."
"I don't want to leave! I don't want to go to some boring stuffy restaurant and have Auntie try to fix me up. I want to stay with my friends.
Jeremiah's eyebrow quirked, "Friends?"
"Tommy, Eddie and Macy, of course!" The three children waved.
Oh for the love of all that is good and holy..
"Look, kids. I don't mean to be rude, but I really need to take my brother home. You understand, right?"
Tommy and Eddie nodded politely but Macy stuck out her chin.
"But I like him. He's staying with me, so go away, meanie head."
Joey beamed at her.
"Macy! Don't talk back!" A young woman swooped the girl up, "Sorry about that. She's not big into manners yet."
Jeremiah looked at the woman. She looked vaguely familiar..
"Oh, Ava. Let her have her fun. It's only Jerry, after all."
"Ava?!"
"Jerry!?"
It was Ava. He hadn't seen her since he was fifteen!
She was.. grown up..
Her shiny blonde hair was much longer than he remembered, spilling off her shoulders and down her back in light waves. Her eyes were still big and blue, with the same independent, challenging twinkle. She was nearly 5'6", which he appreciated at his height of 6'2".
She blushed, "Jerry, I didn't even recognize you. You're all grown up. And you sure are tall."
"You're taller too. You look very pretty, Ava." Jeremiah's face flamed as she beamed at him.
"I didn't realize Joey still had to be watched."
Another wave of embarrassment hit.
"Yeah, well JOSEPH needs to learn to grow up."
"You go by your full names now?" Ava asked.
"Jerry does, but I don't," Joey responded casually, slowly inching towards the sand again.
Ava's thin brows furrowed "But I've always called you Jerry."
"I've grown up now. You said so yourself." Jeremiah watched her carefully. Her crystal blue eyes swept over him a few times.
"Yes, I suppose you have,"
He smiled.
"Jeremiah."

Sun shone brightly, reflecting off the smooth tin slide at the park. Oak trees were home to chirping birds and scampering squirrels, as children spun each other on the miniature metal carousel. A small brown haired boy was perched on the jungle gym, balancing books and reading in the warm afternoon air.
“Jerry! Jerry, come play!”
The boy looked and ten feet below him was a blonde girl, with her shiny hair in pigtails. He considered for a moment.
“What are you playing, Ava?”
“Adventures.”
He seriously considered playing now. Adventures were his specialty. Something restrained him, however.
“What kind of adventures?”
“Castle adventures. Oliver is the dragon, but we need a prince, to save me and Alice. You get to slay Oliver.”
Jeremiah sat back into place.
“No thanks, Ava. I only play Pirate adventures.”
Ava’s face fell, “We could play pirates if you wanted, Jerry.”
“Nah, just go on and have fun. Maybe next time.”
And his face disappeared behind his world atlas.
The other six year olds shrugged their shoulders. Jeremiah was odd lately. He’d always been quiet, but now he was downright strange.
A few minutes later, Jeremiah heard his name again. It was Ava.
“Ava, I said I didn’t want to play, alright? Let me be.”
For only six years old, Ava looked very grown up as she put a hand on her hip, looking highly affronted.
“Well, I never! I just thought you may like to know that your little brother is up a tree.”
If one would have guessed that Jeremiah sighed and climbed down to fetch his parents, then one would be sorely mistaken.
Before Ava could get another word in, Jeremiah had climbed to the very top of the jungle gym. He ran and took a flying leap into midair…
…and caught onto the oak tree branches nearby.
A blonde boy sat in the nook of the tree, crying softly.
“Joey..”
The boy looked up, startled.
“Jerry! You came to save me!”
“Joey! Whatever are you doing in a tree?”
The boy wiped his chubby cheeks, sniffling, “I was trying to be a squirrel, Jerry.”
Jeremiah sighed, rumpling his brother’s hair.
He leaned out of the tree to yell, “Ava! Can you throw me a jump rope, please?”
A rope was thrown up to him and he wrapped it securely around a branch. In one arm, he held his four year old brother. In the other, he grasped the rope and carefully repelled down the tree.
When he touched down, he turned to his brother, glowering.
“Listen here, Joseph Elliot. Don’t you ever go up a tree again unless you’re certain you can get down.”
“But… but the squirrels, Jerry.”
“No. That’s quite enough of that. I think it’s time to go back to Auntie Elizabeth’s house.”
They turned to walk down the sidewalk and Ava rushed up.
“Jerry! That was the bravest thing I ever saw! You really are a prince!” And she kissed him lightly on the cheek before skipping away to play again.
Jeremiah stood frozen for a few moments, trying to decide if what just happened was nice or rather repulsive.
Joseph came over and tugged on his hand, and the two brothers left the park and continued on to their aunt’s.
