She had been released from the hospital when she had been deemed stable, and two weeks of a rough, hardcore detox. She was told that she wasn’t out of the clear yet, and that it would be very easy for her to relapse. But she was determined. As happy as she was to get released from the hospital, she had lost something precious. She felt empty without the fluttering in her stomach.
Rhys though, had given her another chance, yet again. And she was almost certain that this was the last, and final one. That if she fucked up again, there was going to be no hope of getting Rhys back. Ever. And that was more frightening than anything. Instead, she had bought a bottle of back dye, and drenched her hair in it. Her hair was glossy, smooth, and bright. She had put on some weight, so she looked less fragile and bony. Her cheeks and skin had a healthy glow—all and all, she looked healthy and not sickly.
Adeen ignored the steps to his apartment, and flew to the door, hovering in front of it, knocking eagerly. She was grinning happily, truly happy in the longest time. Not to mention—there was no secret. Rhys knew about her, and about Carpet, so she could be herself. In all of her flying glory. She reached down, and twisted the doorknob, blinking when it opened. She slid in, closing the door behind her. She floated through the house, her toes brushing the ground, “Rhys? It’s Deeny, are you here?” She called out.
Should she had just gone into his apartment like that? Should she have barged in? What if…someone else was here. He had never officially said that he was giving her another change, she still had to earn it. And barging in, may not have been the best idea. She started to back up, tempted to head back out to the door, incase Rhys hadn’t heard her.

Rhys shifted, wondering why he didn't just go with his gut instinct and bought that super-powered blow dryer when he was building this place. He could have had it modified, into a chamber of some sort, and having dry skin after a shower would be much less hectic.
Heaving a sigh, he wrapped a towel around his waist and stalked out to the kitchen. He'd make himself a shake to calm his nerves. Maybe with a shot of brandy, or something.
Since the other day at the hospital with Adeen, he had been on a weird sort of roller coaster. One minute he was sitting, daydreaming about all the things he could have had with Adeen and the little guy or girl they would have had together, and the next he was in a towering rage, breaking dishes as he screamed over the fact that Adeen was messed up, the idiots in her past and the drugs and the fact that she had lost their kid.
Other times he'd sit on the phone and listen to her talk. The talking was the best. Hearing Adeen giggle over something on television or what Carpet did or 'said' as they talked about silly, trivial things eased a hurt he wasn't sure he could reach otherwise. So when he heard her voice in his apartment while he stood in front of his open fridge trying to decide what he wanted in his shake, he smiled.
"Hey." He walked out, holding a bottle of strawberry banana juice. "I wasn't expecting you."

She paused when she heard Rhys voice and flew straight to him, before halting again. He made her feel kind of jerky. Like it was her natural instinct to touch him, and be with him, but at the same time--she felt like she had to hold back and wait for him to initiate it.
"Oh," She furrowed her brows. Hadn't she said that she was going to stop by and see him? Hadn't he invited her? She bit down on her nails, color crawling into her cheeks. The past few days were a blur for her. She was still trying to get rid of what was in her system, and some nights she'd be up in a cold sweat, vomiting and shaking--her body craving the drugs it had become accustomed to. It hadn't been easy, but she seemed to be more alive now, rather than the hollow shell of a girl she was.
"What do you think?" She asked, shaking her now black hair over her shoulder. She had done it last night, trying to distract herself from the jitters, which reminded her. "I have something, for you." She shrugged off the Hello Kitty bag on her shoulder, crossing her legs while remaining in the air, using her legs to support the bag. She rummaged through, and pulled out a small plastic case, and inside was a medallion.
She took his hand and set the box into his. "They kinda do the same thing for druggies, that they do for alchies. We get a um...sort of reward for being sober for a certain amount of time." She pulled foward her necklace around her neck, which read, '24 Hours' on it. "This was my first one...and...that one, is my week one. The next one will be a month." She said quietly, shrugging her shoulders. "I just want you to have it."
That's when she registered Rhys was pretty much half naked infront of her. Her red painted lips hitched to the side, "Well, well, Mister Sprinter. You really weren't expecting me." She gestured over her shoulder, "I can come back another time, if you want me to?" She asked, her face staring at those blue eyes. The only eyes that she ever felt could stare at her from the inside out.

Rhys set his juice down on the counter, casually leaning against it as he watched the now black hair woman float before him. "I dunno if I'll ever get used to black..." he murmured, then caught himself. "Not that I don't like it! Because I do. I just hadn't expected you to go....normal."
He smiled, really smiled when she put her medals in his hands. "These, I think," he said softly, "should go on the fridge." He turned, gazing at the fridge for a minute before searching for the set of magnets he had had Candace by once when he was on a freak out. It took him a while, but he got it sorted, making a little platform like thing on the appliance and he was sure it wouldn't fall apart if he opened the door.
"I'm so proud of you, Adeen." And he was. And he proved it, but pulling her floating form close and pressing a soft, chaste kiss to her lips, those lips he had been craving for so long. It was neither as deep or as passionate as he would have liked, but it got the point across.
He smiled up at her when she started speaking, and fought down a blush. "Nope. I'm still wet, even." His smile turned into a naughty smirk, and Rhys leaned in close. "Want to dry me off?"
He grinned, then turned and walked away, deliberately swinging his narrow hips. It was mean, slightly dangerous even, since they were still on rocky footing and weren't even technically back together, but he needed Adeen to know he wouldn't explode if she touched him. And he needed to get dressed anyway.

She followed behind him, watching him curiously while he positioned the medals on the fridge. She felt almost l like a child who's assignment had a gold star, and it was being placed for on display on the fridge. Instead of embarassing her, it made her smile. She was able to remember that no one ever said they were proud of her before...at least for something good.
When she felt his lips against hers, stars burst behind her eyes, and her vision speckled while her head whirled. She missed that feeling that Rhys gave to her, that spun her around, and turned her upside down without her actual body ever needing to move. She stumbled foward when his lips pulled from hers, and she felt mildly disappointed. One step at a time.
She snorted at him, and fought to keep from laughing, her cheeks turning a bright pink. "Hilarious." She laughed however, when he swung his hips. She tilted her head, and eyed for a moment, before pushing off the ground. She laced her arms around his shoulders, letting him pull her while she floated behind him; much like two swimmers. "Yeah, I guarentee if I helped you, you still wouldn't be dry by the end of it." When he went into her room, she let go of his shoulders, and floated up towards the ceiling fan. She wrapped her legs around it, and lowered herself so she was hanging upside down from it, slowly rotating while the fan turned.
She covered her eyes, her shirt riding up slightly to expose her stomach, "Don't worry, I'm not peeking." It was almost comical. Rhys had a strange girl hnging upside down from his ceiling fan, turning, and hands hiding her face. It was funny--like Adeen use to be. Quirky, and quiet, but enjoying making people laugh. Little by little, she was coming back to herself.
"So when do I get to take you for a ride? Are you scared of heights?"

"You're no fun." Rhys grinned. "Was totally looking forward to being wet with you." This was nice. Them messing around, familiar, like it used to be between them. He glanced up at her again, making sure she really wasn't peeking before loosing his towel, making another pass over his back to make sure he was all dry before throwing on a shirt. Underwear was next, and then Rhys had to decide whether he wasnted jeans or shorts for the day. "It's safe to look, now, I promise."
If he was allowed to look at her tummy, and a bit of her bra, then she should be able to deal with him more than half dressed.
"Also, I think I proved i'm not scared of heights the other night." The other night that was a bit of a touchy topic for them both, and sort of more so for him. That she wasn't even herself, didn't remember... Pushing those feelings away, since they weren't conducive to their happy time right then, Rhys continued. "This building is 32 floors high, and I jumped off it attached to nothing but a giant rubber band. I'd say heights don't scare me."
He wanted to point out she'd asked him the same, exact, question the night they'd had sex, the night he'd totally given her his virginity, but didn't. he whole thing was eating them both up. He didn't have to make it worst.
He wished she'd remember some things though. Just so he'd know he wasn't the only one hurting.
"But I'm not riding Carpet. He's evil." He sighed, and jumped onto his bed, gazing up at her. "Where is it, anyway?"

Adeen let her arms hang when she said she could look. She gave a low wolf-whistle, and giggled. Memories were slowly coming back to her. It was hard, and often made her tired, but she was beginning to remember a bit more. The exchanged whispers in the dark, the giggles. But she was still trying to connect the pieces.
She reached behind her and clicked the string of the fan, spinning a little faster each time, before the fan finally slowed down and came to a halt. She pushed herself so she came nose-to-nose with Rhys, still on the fan. "Hey now, Carpet is very friendly. Plus, he'd never let anything happen to you." She smiled and reached out, the back of her fingers touching Rhys jaw.
"I am Carpet, and he's me. I have all of his memories, and he gets mine too. So, even though he likes to tease you, he cares for you just as much as I do." She murmurs, opening her hands to feel Rhys' cheek under her hands. She dropped from the fan suddenly, and onto his bed, before sitting up. She straightened out her ironic 'diet coke' shirt, and shurgged her shoulders.
"He said that it might be better if I just went today. To give us some time to work things out a little more. But honestly, I think he was just scared you were going to put him back in your pocket." She stood up his bed, and took his hand with hers. "Another reason I want Carpet to come along, is because I've never carried someone else. So, if I can't do it for too long, he can be there if something goes wrong." Still grasping Rhys' hands tightly, she walked off the edge of the bed, and lifted slightly into the air, wanting to see if she could fly Rhys back into the living room.
"This isn't Peter Pan, so you don't need to do any weird stuff. Let's see if it works--be prepared to trip incase it doesn't." She said quietly with a chuckle, before drawing in a breath, trying to concentrate on pushing the magic into Rhys temporarily.

"Meh."
He wasn't too sure about this idea, but since when was he able to tell Adeen 'No'? Never. Which was why he found himself standing on the edge of his bed, holding her hand after being unceremoniously fondled, dropped on and then dragged from his comfortable position on his bed. Not that he was complaining. This was the most active he'd seen her in weeks, months even. If he had to be her guinea pig for a bit, he'd suck it up and deal with it.
"Uhm, if I fall, I'm totally taking it out of you." He gave her a mock glare. "I still remember your ticklish spots."
It took a moment, but it happened. Slowly, his feet left the edge of the bed, floating first about an inch, and then slightly higher. Rhys gasped, looking at Adeen's face creased with concentration. Instantly, his worry peaked. Maybe they shouldn't do this. She was doing better, but she was obviously still a bit shaky. Hovering like this was amazing, honestly, but he was more concerned about Adeen's health than any awesome tricks she might be able to preform.
Making a decision, he hooked his arm around her waist and flung them backwards, other arms coming around to hold her head and neck so the impact wouldn't hurt her. Her rolled till he was on top of her, then grinned. "That was incredible." And it was, honest. He couldn't imagine being able to fly. He'd probably never come back down. "We have to try that again sometime."
"But for right now, how about... we just lay here and bond?" He grinned, before pressing a kiss to her forehead and then pretending to be asleep.

When she felt him move towards her, her concentrated look broke into a grin, and her eyes glittered like they hadn't in a very long time. It, for that moment, was like floating in water, no motion, no tug, nothing tying them down to the earth.
She smiled when his arm wrapped around her waist. She didn't feel so uncomfortable when he touched her--she wasn't afraid he'd be able to count her bones, or see the bones move under her skin. She had filled out--she was still quite thin, but doing much better. However, when he fell backwards, taking her out of the air, she squealed very loudly.
"That little second was incredible!? Wait till you're zooming as fast as you possibly can with nothing but the clouds and the wind." She stretched her arms out to the side and sighed. "I'm glad that I don't have to really walk around you. You don't know how fidgety I get when I can't fly."
She closed her eyes when he kissed her, before she grunted and shoved at him. "Bonding does not mean sleep, Mister Sprinter. Please to remember," She mocked some fake, ridiculous accent, "That I could easily lift us up and toss you out of bed." So it was a bluff--that was one of the Carpet curses. A rug couldn't move if something was ontop of it. So with Rhys ontop of here, there was no way she'd be able to fly, or wriggle out using anything other than her sheer strength.
"Also..." Her hands drifted down to his sides, fingers brushing against him as she squinted, "Aren't you ticklish also?"

A laugh bubbled out from his stomach as Rhys wiggled away from those evil fingers. She wasn't supposed to remember that. It was a discovery he wished had been lost to the addiction, but obviously fate hated him, wanted to make him suffer. Still grinning, he sat up, putting a pillow between them like a shield. "That was downright evil."
Of course it wasn't but he was fine being the injured party in this game they were messing around in. He tried not to think about how nice it was to hold her close and not feel as if he would break her if he squeezed too hard, how good it felt to sneak a peak at her tummy and not see rib bones jutting out. It felt so good to have her healthy that Rhys couldn't resist leaning forward to sneak a kiss, even if their foreheads did bump into each other.
The explanation she gave only half explained her fidgeting, but he knew the other reason, so he let it go. It was good that she was starting to come out and talk about things. He appreciated the level of honest he had with her. He had panicked when he brought up Jamie and the weird kiss they shared, but Adeen had, strangely, taken it in stride. he was a bit worried about that, actually. He had expected more yelling, screaming, tears, even if she was on a hospital bed.
"Which reminds me," he sat back, picking up another pillow. "How did you find out about Carpet? And the others...out there?"

“Mwuhahahaha.” She giggled, as sinisterly as she possibly could, before flopping on her stomach and put her face against the pillow, staring up at him. Today, Adeen was happy, and had a playful, kittenish quality about her. Her spine straightened out when Rhys leaned in for another kiss, “D’oh.” She muttered afterwards, rubbing her forehead, and sighed at him.
“Did you forget how to kiss me already? Like this.” She rocked forward, turning her head to avoid all nose and forehead bumping, her lips pressing against his in return, just a moment longer before sitting back up. She wasn’t too happy about the Jamie incident, she still wasn’t. But she was able to react like a rational person. She had made it very clear that she didn’t want Rhys to do that again, if they were going to try and work things out. Under the condition that she wouldn’t run off without letting him know beforehand.
She reached forward, snatching the second pillow away from him, before putting it in her lap, and leaning over it a bit, sitting across from Rhys. “Oh, ahm. Each reincarnation wakes up differently, from what I’ve heard. For me, I was just shopping one day. And, I found a gorgeous rug. Like, the most beautiful one I had ever seen. But it wasn’t in my price range, so I left.” She shrugged her shoulders, and looked down at the pillow, fluffing it up. “I got home, and the rug was there on my floor. I touched it, and the moment I did it was like someone was playing a movie at full speed in my brain. It was memories, smells, feelings. Imagine…”
She narrowed her eyes a bit, and scooted forward, moving her pillow out of the way while she draped her legs over Rhys, leaning backwards on her hands. “Imagine watching the movie, Aladdin. But, you’re not just getting that. You’re getting all of Carpet’s thoughts, his feelings. You can feel the heat, and the sand, and the fire, and the water. Like you were there, not just watching.” She rocked side to side, trying to put it in the easiest terms she could.
“And as for others, I can feel the ones that are, awake, is the best way to put it. Some of them have something traumatic happen that wake them up, or something common like mine. Unfortunately…we aren’t all good.” She frowned, “Just like the heroes, there’s the villains too.” She swallowed hard, and sighed. “But you can feel them, like a spider web. It’s stronger for my stories, it’s a familiarity. Like seeing an old friend, and with others…”
Adeen leaned forward, grasping Rhys’ shirt in her hands, “With others that are awake, it feels like a pull—“ when she said pull, she had tugged Rhys forward, her lips pressing against his once more, her legs squeezing his sides, before letting go, smiling against his lips. “Some are stronger, better at telling who’s who. Some people have a ghosty-image of their reincarnate next to them, if their character wants to be seen. Some actually are their reincarnation—that one’s a little more crazy. And then there are ones like me. Normal people can see Carpet, regardless of being awake or not. But if they too, are awake. They’ll be able to tell I’m not just doing a clever magic trick.”
It was all so hard to explain, but it felt good to talk. To hear his voice without anger, bitterness, or tears. Some things still pained her. She wondered how Candace was doing—but she almost didn’t want to know the answer. That woman still sort of made the blood under her skin boil. But Adeen was back, and she was keeping Rhys, no matter what.
“What about you? I mean, how’s Gingey’s been going? Is Jacob still behaving? Cause I could totally sick Cleo on his ass.”

Adeen. Was. Evil.
When she'd pulled him close to kiss him, he'd grinned, thinking that she was finally getting it, that he wasn't going to chuck her out the nearest window if she touched him. Rhys actually enjoyed their kisses. It was one of his favorite past times. When she stole his pillow, his grin had widened, sure there was going to be a surprise attack any minute now and secretly took hold of a pillow from behind him.
But when she draped her legs over his, one on each side and close enough that he instinctively gulped and forced himself not to look down. Her explanation was all well and good and he even understood it, but he really should not have been expected to form a coherent sentence with her so close.
And so demanding.
Rhys smiled, blushing. "Oh, um, Jacob's fine. Really. And I, um, hired a new worker. Blue. I might make her manager in a few weeks. Maybe."
Evil evil evil evil evil woman. He tentatively poked a knee, then more boldly set his hands on her thighs. See, that wasn't so bad. Holding her by the hips was even better. He let out a tiny sigh. She felt just as nice, if not better, now that she was a bit heavier, as she did that night. Touching in daylight was so the same as at night. Who knew?
"You're enjoying this, aren't you?" Because he knew she was.

Rhys was funny, and she was well aware--for the first time in a while--of what she was doing. She could see the bob of his adam's apple when he gulped, and the hesitation in his voice when he spoke. "Blue, hm? Her hair's green, right?" She teased, raising her brows at him.
Her smile faded a little when his hand moved over her thigh, she was still trying to get use to the changes of her body. The fact that she could feel his hand across her supple thigh, instead of feeling like his hand could shatter her. Her arms reached behind her, pressing onto the bed, and sliding into his lap when he held her by the hips.
She shrugged her still thin shoulders at him. Letting go of the bed, she folded her hands neatly in her lap, still sitting on Rhys. She leaned in, and rested her forehead against his; the mischevious sparkle back in her brown eyes. "Quite possibly, yes. Yes I am."
Ooh, what an idea. She lifted her hands from her lap, her fingers slowly 'walking' up Rhys chest, "See, I'm starting to remember things. It's not...totally clear yet." Her voice dropped down to a whisper, doing her best to keep from bursting out in giggles. "But I do remember how shy you were at some points, and some adorable sounds, and you are just entirely too cute when you blush." It happened, she grinned. She couldn't hold it in anymore. She leaned back from Rys a bit, covering her mouth to try and staunch the giggles.
"I love you, you strange man." She was alight, and alive, and having way...way too much fun trying to fluster Rhys.
Notes:Adeen is going to kill him one day. I'm not sure how, but she just might. XD

Rhys felt his face flush hot, and gave a nervous grin. Oh, but she was evil. He was not cute no matter what she thought. And it totally wasn't his fault if some of the things she did totally made his eyes cross and his head go swimming. Adeen was evil, even when she wasn't completely sober or conscious.
But then she giggled, and said those words that he knew were true, no matter if she were higer than a kite or on her deathbed somewhere, the truth shining out of her eyess like beacons, and Rhys pounced.
Or really, just rolled them over till he was laying on top of her and was certain she couldn't trick or tickle or anything her way out of the situation by holding her hands against the mattress above her head. She wanted to play? Then they would play.
There were things that needed to be said between them, things that couldn't necessarily be said with words. Things about the pain and the hurt, the fear or the past and the strange, uncertain present. But they could make it work. There was one way he knew to make her understand, to make she she felt him.
"Obviously not as much as I love you."
He pressed a kiss to her lips, then, careful to be gentle, deepening the kiss till his head swam and all he really, really wanted to do was not think. About anything. But Adeen. His free hand slid up her side, tugging the fabric of her shirt up as he did, marveling in the soft, warm feel of her under his fingers. There was something about this woman that just broke his brain, everything she did and was consuming him and covering him so completely he was continuously lost, and didn't mind in the least.
"This strange man," one kiss here, along her jaw and another on the side of her neck, "has a few things," kiss, kiss, nibble and man was her skin soft, "to say to you." Shirts were annoying, so it would have to go, and he was wearing far too many clothes, but he should be kissing her...getting rid of that shirt...and those pants...imprinting his message onto her very soul...so he did.

Adeen loved that grin of his. Strangely enough, she was able to remember each moment his smiled like that, because it lit her on fire from the inside out. Except--her glory was cut short when the man pounced on her, and made her dizzy with the rolling on the large, soft bed. She shook her head, shaking away the glossy black strands clouding her vision.
The joking, silly mood seemed to vanish into thin air when her arms were pressed into the mattress over her head. "I beg to differ, Mister Sprinter." She mumbled before his lips pressed against hers. Her slender form squirmed beneath his fingers, but then she held still. As where he wasn't thinking, her brain was working to memorize and imprint every single touch, sigh, and kiss into her memory. She made a mistake once, and she wasn't going to forget again.
Her lips curled into a smile, "Good, 'cause I'm all ears." She murmured again, the chirp gone from her voice, replaced by her lower, huskier pitch. Memorizing ever whisper of clothes, and every brush of skin, Adeen collapsed into Rhys in a tangle of legs, sighs, and cries.
--
Adeen fell to the side of Rhys, her chest rising and falling quickly, attempting to catch her breath. Her mind was muddled, and confused still. But she had saved every moment of it to her memory, and in turn--it had sparked a lot of the forgotton memory to come back. She tugged the sheet up, and looked at him with cloudy brown eyes. "I remember." She murmured quietly, reaching up to press her lips against his again.
She propped herself up on her elbow, still on her side, tugging the sheet up to cover her bare chest. Her hair, formerly pulled into a bun at the back of her head had come loose at some point; and cascading rivers of now messy-black hair fell onto the pillow and her shoulders. "I meant everything, Rhys." She looked sad, for just a moment, hoping that he understood what she meant. The perfect fit of her against him, and her barely incohearant whispers of 'I need you', 'I love you', and 'I'm yours', weren't just whispers of the moment.
Another idea fell into her mind, before that mischevious grin appeared on her face once more. However she didn't immediately act on it--still having far too much fun with Rhys' reactions.
