Addison gave him a small smile. If she was his best friend, why couldn’t he listen to her just this once? It wasn’t like he really did any other time. This was a one chance thing. She just wanted him away from this… this creep. Away from whatever was making him act like this. Addison did not like it. Not one bit. She shook her head. “No. Really. I don’t want any.” Addison looked the guy over before fixing him with a suspicious glare. “Besides, I’m all out of money,” Addison added, turning her gaze to Matthew. It was… sort of true. She’d spent most of her money on the dress and she was sure that… whatever was being sold was out of her price range.
Addison took a few tiny steps back, startled by his behavior. Unbelievable. That’s what she got for trying to help. Addison gave an angry huff, glaring at him. “I’m not trying to make you do anything,” she snapped. Addison gave the man an irritated look as he started talking to her. ‘Missy?’ He had some nerve. Oh, and his hand was on her shoulder. She shrugged away, uncomfortable with the informality of it all. Matthew would find the one adult that Addison would want him to avoid most of all. Uck, had he just called her honey? It made her shudder. “He’s not going to buy anything.” She told him irritably, knowing full well that Matthew would only want whatever it was for free.
“Isn’t that right?” she asked Matthew, turning to face him. He had that smug smirk, the one that all adults hated, and even she kind of hated him for it right now. “Because you never pay for… happiness,” she finished uncertainly, not wanting to use such a good word to describe drugs. It was weird.

Why was Addison acting so dumb? Couldn't she see how great this stuff was? This was just like her, deciding to be boring in the one moment when he was having the absolute time of his life. Matt gave Addison a half-second frown before shrugging the whole thing off. She'd regret not buying any later. And then he'd laugh at her and tell her it was all her fault, because he'd been right all along, just like he always was. Really, she was far too predictable.
Matt actually stuck his tongue out at Addison's snapping, finding her harsh words to be more than uncalled for. Who did she think she was, ordering him about? An adult? He certainly hoped not. Just as he was about to ask her just that, however, the ice cream man reaced out to put his hand on Addison's shoulder and something in him seemed torn between laughing at the look on her face and socking his newfound friend in the nose. "Hey, what're ya--" he was cut off as Addison ducked her way out from beneath the man's grip. He shrugged, looking between the two of them with the same cocksure smile. "Well..." he paused, thinking over Addison's words for a good two seconds or so before shaking his head. "Nah, you can't. But this is so...COOL," he insisted with another rapid nod. Turning towards Mister Whatshisname again, Matt spoke quickly, as though slowing down his thoughts would make them all come crashing down in a bed of disappointment. "Say, I can come back and get more of this stuff, right? If I wanted to? After I go to the park? I wanna climb a tree, Addie. Will you climb a tree with me?" He whipped his head around so fast to face Addison, it almost made him dizzy.

Well, fine, if that little brat felt like she wanted to squir around like a worm on a hook and wiggle her way away from him, then Hunter wouldn't hold it against her. Maybe she would get so creeped out by the entire situation that she would just up and leave, so that Hunter could get back to explaining just how the whole thing worked, and giving out his special drug dealing cell phone number for whenever that little idiot wanted to get his fix. It was a very specific process that Hunter had to go through when indoctrinating a new customer into his way of life, and whiny girls who wanted to stick to the straight and narrow just messed everything up.
He gave the girl a blank stare as she pleaded with that pathetic little 'can't buy happiness' line. "Wow, that was really deep, darlin'. Steal that one from a movie or something?" It was easy to mock her innocence, and he could only hope that by pointing out her idiocy then maybe - JUST maybe - Matt would realize that she was a boring little twat and send her away so he could learn more about the magic pills and how to use them.
Hunter knew, however, that he was fighting a losing battle here. That little girl had some kind of spell on him and he wasn't going to refuse her. "Y'know what? Go ahead, buddy. Just remember, I'm not in the book, so if you want more you're gonna have to come back and find me." Hunter picked up his bag, ready to walk off himself. He didn't trust that little brunette. She might call the cops on him the minute she was more than ten feet away. "Next time though, do us all a favor and ditch the chick."

Oh, this was the very definition of frustrating. Your best friend not listening to you when it was of the utmost importance.. Yes. Frustrating. One more minute. She’d give Matthew one more minute to make up his mind. Then, she would leave. Because even though she knew it was a bad idea to leave him and that this… this drug dealer was the last person she wanted Matthew talking to, she wasn’t going to stand around and let herself be talked to in such a demeaning manner. Now she understood why Matthew disliked adults so much, more so than she usually understood. “Steal that one from a movie or something,
” she mimicked condescendingly, giving the man a particularly mean glare. Was she at twenty Mississippi? Sure. Twenty seconds. Okay. Cool. Cool. Right. There were things that were much cooler than drugs. She could’ve listed some of them off but she was sure Matthew would dismiss every suggestion in his current state of mind. Apparently, this was just the best thing ever. Addison shifted on her feet. Forty Mississippi. Okay, if she were to be completely honest with herself, she knew she wasn’t going to leave once the minute was up. Or she’d just start going by halves and then quarters, making up numbers even, if it meant she could make the minute last just a little bit longer. Addison didn’t realize she was holding her breath until she became rather dizzy. Stumbling a bit, she resumed her breathing and scolded herself for being so stupid. There was no reason to stop breathing; she wasn’t that annoyed/frustrated/nervous/worried. At fifty-two and a half Mississippi, Matthew turned to her and asked if she’d go climb a tree with him. It had probably been quite a few more minutes than one minute, she’d begun to count so slowly, but that didn’t matter. Her sigh of relief was clearly audible and she answered with a nod and a smile. Why had she even been worried? Matthew couldn’t say no to climbing a tree and if she really had to, maybe she would’ve tried her puppy dog eyes. His worked so well on her, who was to say hers wouldn’t on him? Hopefully, he wouldn’t actually come back later or go searching for this man but… well, this was Matthew, after all. Addison shot another heated glare at the guy, biting back her retorts. “ Well, let’s go, then.” She said to Matthew, looking back to him expectantly. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Matt laughed at the man's joke, unable to understand what it was Addie seemed so upset about him saying. It did sound a bit like a movie line, the more he thought about it...Not that it mattered. She was right, he supposed. But she'd clearly never had any of this stuff, because Matt was three thousand and twenty-five percent positive she would have wholeheartedly agreed with him if she had.
She sure looked upset. Definitely in need of a bit of whatever this was; that would've calmed her down in an instant, he was sure, and made the whole situation even more enjoyable than it already was. But at least she was smiling now? Obviously he'd done something to make her happy, and even though he wasn't entirely sure what that was, Matt was rather pleased with himself for it. He was rather wonderful at turning Addie's moods around for the better, when he set his mind to it.
Come back? Really? That sounded like an awfully complicated process for just a few colorful little pills...Or it would have, had Matt not already known it would be more than worth it. He nodded eagerly at the man whose name still didn't know, snapping his feet close together and giving his best salute. The seriousness of the thing was certainly comprimised by his smile, but Matt was far too happy at the moment to wipe that off his face. "Aye-aye, Captain!"
He was about halfway through his turning towards Addison when the full weight of the man's words hit him. Ditch Addie? Well, that sounded awfully unfair...he couldn't very well tell her to stand in one spot with her eyes on the wall while he ran off to talk to the Ice Cream Man, now could he? Brow furrowed, Matt did his best to come up with a compromise. "Well...I won't ditch her...but I'll be sure not ta bring her. Ya wouldn't want to come anyway, wouldja, Addie?" eyes wide, he gave his friend his best combination "Don't you dare disagree with me"/"Trust me, this is for the best" look. Satisfied with the outcome, he turned back to grinning as he approached her.
"See ya later, Mister!" he waved back at the man before turning his full attention to Addison. Or, well, as much attention as he could muster that wasn't focused on just how wonderful he felt right now. "Say...If we race there, I bet I'll beat ya," he wiggled his brows a bit, clearly finding this to be enough grounds for a little healthy competition.
