Generally speaking, Heidi is a quiet and mild mannered girl. She tends to hang back in class, and is a perpetual wall flower. When people speak to her, she always gives them a shocked expression and responds in a wispy voice, because she honestly does not know what possess them to speak to her. She dreams of being loved, of having romances, of being popular and pretty. Her self esteem is rather shit, and she's prone to fits of anxiety at being not good enough. Often she feels like she got all the bad qualities, where Jake got all the good ones.

Beneath the surface she's got a lot of anger, that comes out in short bursts. On occasion, she'll blow up and throw things, using vocabulary many don't even realize she possess. They are, as said, short lived. Heidi is not contrite when she is done, but instead goes on to ignore that they ever happened. Like how polite people ignore a fart.

One of her strongest attributes is her co-dependence on her brother, Jacob. It is quite within right to say she idolizes him, and she will completely refuse to hear a word against him. He is smart and wise and charming, where she is dim and dull and without social graces. Still, she'll find the most ridiculous things beautiful, and is often lost in her head thinking of such things. Of any good qualities that can be said about her is that she is completely honest. Often her opinion must be prodded, but she is known for blunt and simple answers that many others will not say.

The Mansfield children did not lead a happy life. Their parents were high school sweethearts who had fallen out of love weeks before the pregnancy became known, and were only together when it was all said and done because neither felt like looking for someone new. Elizabeth was domineering and harsh, berating her husband until he became a man who's junk was merely there for show. She controlled every aspect of their lives, even keeping her own last name when she agreed to marry Paul.

Paul loved his children, though only to the extent that he would say kind words to them. He was, in a way, relieved to have some of Elizabeth's hatred taken from him, and he allowed his children to be bullied. Heidi was clumsy and literal, and thus an easy target for her Mother's wrath. But Jake was always there to watch over her. He was her guardian angel.

When kids at school would tease Heidi for being so small, with such big eyes, and for being the daughter of an alleged whore, he'd come to her rescue. When Momma found spilled food on the kitchen floor that had been missed, he'd take the blame, and thus take the beating. He'd slave with her over her homework assignments that should have only taken a half an hour, and be diligent. When she had nightmares, he'd never turn her away from climbing into his bunk.

There was an unreal bond between the two, so much so that they even adapted their own language. Most twins out grow it, but they clung to it as much as they clung to each other. They needed each other.

Three years ago, Baum Academy approached Jake with a scholarship inviting him to join their school. They loved finding bright young stars who would make their school proud, the poorer their home life situation the better. The world loved an underdog story. And their double wide trailer and poor family repute, combined with his brilliance was just what they were looking for.

But Jake would not go. Not without Heidi.

So they accepted the girl, for they wanted Jake so badly. He had always promised to take her away from Momma, and he came through to her. To her, he was superman. There was nothing her couldn't do. He would always be there to catch her.

So, she attends Baum in the fall to spring, where she is basically unnoticed by anyone who is not Jake. He keeps the bullies away, and talks her down when her tempers flare. He makes sure she stays passing so that her scholarship doesn't void, and in return she gives him her love and loyalty. It was a trade. They were each others.

Mother:: Elizabeth Sawyer-Mansfield. An abusive tyrant, and a solicitous beauty. Her children suffer in their home town because of her poor reputation.
Father:: Paul Mansfield. A weak man who has drank away his pain. He does little to protect his children, to stop his wife's whoring, or to keep his alcoholism discreet.
Brother:: Jacob Edward Mansfield. Her Eyes. Since they were babies they've only had each other, and he's protected her the whole way. He's spent countless hours trying to assist her learning disabilities, he's taken the blame for her mistakes and thus taken beatings that should have been hers. And in return he has her undying loyalty.

10.) Being the younger twin. She thinks Jake's got it rough, being the eldest. He feels inclined to make sure everything is good, and takes care of her. She can't take care of a house plant, let alone him.

9.) People who can't just say what they mean. She sucks at subtext.
10.) Her temper. It's happens so rare, as she's a chronic bottler. But she explodes, and it's frightening.
