It wasn’t that there was anything wrong with hiking. In fact, Addison quite enjoyed being outside. It was just that she could be doing better things with her time. Then again, most people would rather be hiking than doing what she considered to be ‘better things.’ Most people would rather do anything if it meant getting out of studying. She didn’t just want to study, though! She’d had an idea lodged in her mind since last night and she’d had absolutely no time to get it down on paper. If she’d just had a pen, she could scribble it down on her arms. But she didn’t even have that!
Still, a nice hike would get her mind off of things (as long as the story idea stayed where it was). It was a nice day, not as cold as most winter days, perfect for a trek through the woods. Kaylee (as Addison insisted on calling her) was nice if not a bit energetic and loud. Addison was sometimes surprised with herself as she called the girl a friend. On most occasions, you probably couldn’t call the person who shot you with a BB gun a friend. It had hurt and caught her off guard and she’d gone off on Kaylee. After the initial annoyance, Addison found her to actually be quite interesting.
It had taken some time on Addison’s behalf to really befriend the girl but once that had happened, it was smooth sailing. Kaylee wasn’t like most of her friends so being around her was like a breath of fresh air. Speaking of, the air was cool and woodsy and it reminded her of the plus sides to this hike. She stretched her arms, reaching for their sky until her fingers ached from being extended so long. Addison dropped her arms letting them fall to her sides and looked at Kaylee with a smile. “Quite a good idea, hiking. ” Bravo to Kaylee.
In fact, Kaylee couldn’t have picked a better day. It wasn’t too cold but it wasn’t hot (obviously). Hiking during the summer or spring seemed like an outrageous idea and Addison planned on never trying it. However, it was winter time. The sky was grey and cloudy, she could see her breath, and it was times like these that she much preferred the cool seasons over the hot ones. "Perfect weather for it." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - notes; hope this is okay! outfit; here[/blockquote]

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - For being rather opposite at times, she and Kaylee got along quite well. it was one of the things Addison liked best about the girl. Most times, Addison couldn't be around somebody so unlike her. With Kaylee, it wasn't like that. In fact, she even liked being around her. It was nice having a friend who was outgoing and adventurous. They helped her get out and about whereas her quieter friends were just fine with staying in and studying.
Speaking of... Addison grinned and shook her head. "I can't help that I want good grades. " The friends that tended to be less focused on education rarely understood her desire to do well in school. That was fine. She liked that her friends were all different. "This weather is gorgeous. I wish winter was always like this." She said wistfully, looking up at the sky. The trees were barren which made her rather sad. Colors brought everything to life. To see if so brown and grey definitely made her wish for spring. Addison took wide, exaggerated steps, making sure to land on every crunchy leaf she could. There weren't very many left so she enjoyed them while she could. " I like these woods. Feels... familiar." It didn't make any sense to Addison as she'd lived in big cities all her life but it was a nice feeling nonetheless. Addison looked around, spinning on the spot, catching sight of a very large tree. It was much bigger than all the other trees. An idea struck her then. " Want to climb that tree?!" She asked Kaylee excitedly, jabbing her finger towards it. Addison would've been fine if they didn't because, really, they were out for a hike. Not for climbing trees. Then again, as long as they were outside, enjoying the weather and nature, she was happy. It felt like it had been ages since she'd breathed fresh air. Sitting in stuffy classrooms got to her often. It surprised some people and even her sometimes. Most figured that somebody who actually enjoyed studying would like sitting in classrooms for hours on end. She figured that, too. Yet it was becoming the opposite more and more each day. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - notes; wee :D outfit; here[/blockquote]

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It was an obvious statement. Of course fun was more fun than good grades. A lot of things were. Still, at least she could have fun. Addison knew plenty of people who only worried about grades and schoolwork and extra credit. They didn’t eve try to have fun. At least she did that. Then again, quite a few of her friends were pro fun. Addison sometimes wondered how she managed to becomes friends with them. It seemed that they could be such bad influences on her. “Well, clearly. ” She laughed, “There are plenty of more fun things. Like writing and gymnastics and telling jokes.” It seemed Kaylee was more excited to climb the tree than she even was. Why, she was already taking off her shoes! Addison would leave her boots on, thank you very much. Addison looked a bit surprised, not having expected a race. There was no way she could beat Kaylee up that tree. Addison couldn’t beat anybody. Tree climbing was not her forte; it was just something she liked doing for fun. “ We don’t have to race…” Addison said uneasily, not liking the idea of the loser having to do something. She never picked ‘dare’ for a reason; it was practically the same as agreeing to a race she was sure to lose. Addison was shaking her head before Kaylee had even finished. No way! No way, no way. Absolutely not. God knows where that boy’s lips had been. “ No way, Kaylee. I couldn’t beat you in a race no matter how hard I tried.” Still… she really did want to climb that tree… and what if she did win? It took a moment of consideration and battling with herself before she finally signed in resignation. “ On the cheek,” Addison insisted, raising her eyebrows. That wasn’t so bad. Waiting for Kaylee to agree to these terms (because otherwise Addison refused to race), she braided her hair quickly, pulling it back so it wouldn’t get in her way. [/blockquote]

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Addison never really expected people to understand why she enjoyed writing so much. If she couldn't expect it of most people, she certainly couldn't expect it from somebody who didn't even enjoy homework. Kaylee had a point. Writing was like homework you didn't have to do (so long as you considered it as English homework). "It's thanks to my writing that I'm able to tell such wonderful stories, " Addison said, as if trying to convince Kaylee that writing was plenty of fun.
Addison had no doubt that it would be fun. Races were fun especially since she never cared whether she lost or not. It was when the loser had to do something that she faltered. That just wasn't her cup of tea. Still, she didn't want to pass up this adventure. She'd started repeating to herself over and over again, a mantra in her mind. 'What if you do win? It's entirely possible. You could win.' It was helping a bit and it didn't take long before she was determined. Just because Kaylee was more outdoors-y than she was didn't automatically mean she was better at climbing trees!
Addison joined Kaylee, standing beside her and looking up at the tree. She looked down, then, to Kaylee's bare feet. Surely that would hurt? Addison wiggled her toes, warm and cozy in her boots. Stretching her arms high up and standing on her tippy-toes, Addison focused simply on that for a moment. It had always been one of her favorite feelings. Dropping back onto her feet, Addison tugged on her braid and nodded. "Ready." What if you do win? It's entirely possible. You could win.' " Ready..." Addison started, glancing to Kaylee to make sure she was ready for the countdown to start. " Set..." She focused her eyes back on the tree, looking for ways she could climb up it. " GO!" Addison took off faster than she ever had before (or at least she thought so). She grabbed hold of a branch she'd noticed before -- just low enough to reach and close enough to another branch that was a bit higher up. [/blockquote]
