Seventeen years old was much too young to be apartment shopping.
At least, that’s what Samantha Rae thought. It wouldn’t have made sense if she explained it to somebody for she was out apartment shopping right now. Seventeen year old Samantha Rae figured one ought to be at least eighteen before they even thought about moving out. To make it even more confusing, the school she was attending offered dorms. With a place to live so close to where she was taught, there was definitely no need to think about things like an apartment and rent and living on her own.
There was one thing that had her here today. It was that she didn’t want to move back in with her father and stepmother. Samantha Rae would be graduating soon. She’d been looking at colleges that provided dorms (so far, Barrie University was at the top of her list) but if she wasn’t able to attend a college where she could live on campus, Samantha Rae would have no choice but to move in back home. There was absolutely no way she could live under the same roof as her stepmother. She couldn’t do it.
The Jacobs Apartment Complex seemed nice enough. It was a bit like any other apartment complex. There was a nagging urge at the back of her mind saying clean, clean, clean. She had to ignore it as best she could. The lobby wasn’t that dirty and she certainly would be sent away if she started dusting the counters now. Samantha Rae had come here with plans to speak with a manager of some sort. She just wanted to ask a few questions for now – how much was a one bedroom?, does it cost extra for pets?, was it a safe neighborhood?
Unfortunately, the staff seemed to be lacking today. Samantha Rae had been sitting in a hard backed chair for at least ten minutes now, fidgeting nervously. It wasn’t easy, staying still and taking in all the dirt she could be scrubbing away. She kept staring at one spot, one spot that seemed to be immaculate, and that was the potted plant in the corner. She wondered if they had a gardener or if the plant was just so well taken care of because it seemed to be the only thing that brightened up the room. Either way, it was a relief to see it there.
Samantha Rae had seen a few people walk in and out so far. They all seemed like they could be nice enough which comforted her. At least she knew she’d have friendly neighbors. That was, if she ever did decide to move out on her own. Besides, even if she was able to get into Barrie, did she really want to stay in the dorms? What sort of living was that – sharing a room with a different person every year and always being safe and sound on campus? Samantha Rae sighed and played with the hem of her dress, deciding she’d wait just a few more minutes.
OOC: I figured this might be a good way for Samantha Rae to meet one of the more grown up characters from Snow White since they all seem to live here. :)
