...Julius Claude Fortescue*
*The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee. *

personality
A devout Orthodox Catholic since childhood, Julius never wanted to be anything but a Priest. Even when he was young he was obsessed with the idea of Heaven and Hell, Purgatory, and Damnation. He believes strongly that God is a vengeful, jealous, but just God; and so is not apologetic when he shares these same traits because Man was made in God's image. He can be cruel, but in all honesty he believes all that he does is right If something seems wrong, he will find some way to justify his behavior. Being a golden tongued fellow, he is adept at making others believe that he only acted in the best of interest.
He is mature, intelligent, and pious. Even as a child he was not fond of childish things, baring always a grave look on his face. It seemed to go hand in hand with his intelligence, which was sharp as a tack, full of wit. Never was he unable to articulate himself since reaching the age of three. Hie piety is something of a mystery, as he did not have particularly religious parents. Friends of the Fortescue's who would look on the boys every once in a while, they blamed Julius's staunch religious stance was due to his parents dying, though this was because Julius was private. He did not share with his parents that when they sent him to play at the nearby park he would really go to the church. At first to watch the priests, but then to study the bible. He soon became a language Student to one of the Priest, Father Benedetto, who loved having such a clever student.
On the other hand, he is also close minded, chauvinistic, hypocritical, and vain. He is self righteous and uses his affluence to manipulate those around him. He believes, while he does mourn their deaths, his parents were struck down with illness for living unclean lives and dealing with unclean people. When he refers to 'unclean lives' he refers to his Mother working and his Father befriending a homosexual. He is overly proud of his achievements, and will make ways to slip them into conversation. He especially holds it over his brother, comparing the two of them, attempting to motivate the boy. One of his greatest hypocrisies is the staunch stance against lust, while he himself is lustful. At the age of twenty seven he is a virgin, and plans to be until his death.
Julius considers himself a learned man: He is fluent in Latin, French, Italian, and English, has read many books, and has studied the bible with an intensity beyond his years. He is a lover of art and tasteful music, and enjoys a glass of strong wine from time to time. Julius has an excellent memory, and uses it for his studies to great effect. He was a good student in school.
past
Bernadina and Donatien Fortescue were one of those happy couples that no real tragedy happened to. They had married fairly young, eighteen for Bernadina and nineteen for Donatien, and they had Julius some eleven months after their marriage. Though not particularly religious themselves, they had him baptized. They tried to have another child, hoping for a girl, but not being too particular, but a child did not come. So, they settled to be loving parents to Julius.
However, it was very much like not having a child at all. He was serious, even as a baby, not reacting (other than, perhaps, slight indulgent exasperation) when tickled or zurburted. It grew worse as he got older, and Julius had a special impatience for children's television and books. He had a hatred for being spoken down to, as he was well aware of his own intelligence. This awareness became something close to snobbery, earning the nickname in school 'Renfrogné Jules' as he appeared so joyless. His only solace was The Cathedral of Notre Dame. It was beautiful to him, in a world he was gradually finding to be full of sin.
Julius found his calling when he was ten. His Mother was watching another mother at the park (she had insisted upon going, and while a constantly exasperated, Julius was an obedient child), Julius asked why she and Papa had never had more children. She explained that they had tried had wanted to give Julius brothers and sisters- because he'd be such a good big brother, she assured- but that that was not in the great plan. He asked her if she had ever prayed for another child. Had she ever thrown herself at God, admitted His vast superiority to her, and asked for Him to bless her wound. A little startled by Julius's great reverence, she replied with an honest no. Putting his hands on her belly, Julius prayed allowed, right there in the park, to the shock of his Mother and the other park goers.
And it worked. She announced that she was pregnant, and Julius had become affirmed in his faith. From the moment the announcement was made, Julius went to church every Sunday. There, he met Father Benedetto, who had taken him on as a student, finding him startlingly astute and perceptive, as well as Religiously minded. After nine months, Donation took Julius to the hospital to see his little brother. A perfect, healthy little angel, with fine blond hair and the largest blue eyes one could ever see. Julius was touched by this gift from the heavens, and it affirmed that God was pleased with him. With his gravity unyielding, even in this moment of joy, he told his parents with a steady voice and tearful eyes:
"Ce fut l'œuvre de notre Seigneur Dieu. Et c'est beau à ses yeux."
During Alexander Jehan Fortescue's baptism, Julius sang the loudest, and wore the largest smile he ever bore in his young life. But after, he soon became worried. His parents life styles were simple for him to ignore when it was merely him, but now he hand e petite Alexander to worry about. He did his best to counteract them, while still remaining respectful, reading from the bible to Alexander every night.
Their lives were quiet for the next four years. But then the great sickness happened. An out break of e coli and selmonilla had broken out, stemming from the farmer's market the Fortescue's used. Julius holds it purely to his and Alexander's nightly prayers that they did not get sick, while their parents, fallen from grace, were soon hospitalized. The brother's were more often at the hospital chapel than with their parents, praying for their souls.
They died in September, three weeks after becoming sick.
The boys were thrust into foster care, were Julius made sure they were not separated. He took pristine care of his brother, making sure he wanted for nothing if Julius could help it. They were not popular foster children: Julius was not shy in his religion, and would scare the children into doing their nightly prayers with talk of hell, damnation, and the devil. Alexander on the other hand was a hyperactive boy who very much enjoyed hide and seek, did not share well, and was prone to tantrums. Julius, who could not see him suffer, gave in more often than not.
When he turned seventeen, they found a family who wanted to adopt them in the United States. The boys went, eager for this change in pace- especially Alexander who had heard so many fun and exciting things about The United States. When their, the clever Julius stalled the adoption until he was eighteen, where he sued for custody of Alexander. Being seen as such a responsible young man, with a good head on his shoulders, Julius was awarded said custody. The kind people who had wanted to love them were thanked for their charity, then promptly forgotten.
present
At present Julius is Father Julius at St. Mary's Holy Catholic Church. He lives his life by a very strict regiment, waking at five a.m. and going to bed at ten p.m. every day. He is popular with his parishioners, being a charming and eloquent man. His youth and fire appeals to the younger members of his audience, while his traditional orthodox views appeal to the older members. He spent the ages eighteen through twenty three supporting himself and brother while he went to college, making sure to get his qualifications to join the cloth. While Alexander is not exactly shouting it to the heavens that his brother was one of the youngest ordained Priests in New York, Julius does hope he is proud of him.
Julius supports Alexander, though the brothers seem to fight more often due to Alexander's scandalous behavior and lack of repentance. As Julius grows older (and more frustrated, if yeh know what I mean), he is lacking the patience to deal with the mess anymore. But he is still indulgent, especially since his little brother knows all the right things to say to get Julius's goat.

book title The Hnchback of Notre Dame
backstory Claude Frollo was a highly intelligent but morose young man who was orphaned along with his infant brother Jehan when their parents died of the plague. His studies led him to become the Archdeacon of Josas, which is his position during the events of the novel. He rescues Quasimodo, a deformed hunchback child whom he finds abandoned on the cathedral's foundlings bed. He adopts him, raises him like a son, cares for him, and teaches him a sort of sign language when Quasimodo becomes deaf. Frollo is a respected scholar and studies several languages, law, medicine, science and theology. However, he becomes infatuated with alchemy, which leads townspeople to spread the rumor that he is a sorcerer. He also believes strongly in fate. Frollo also has strong sexual passions, though he is a celibate due to his station within the church. These passions erupt in him through his contact with the beautiful Gypsy girl Esmeralda, and eventually they prove his undoing.
