*It was worth a wound—it was worth many wounds—to know the depth of loyalty and love which lay behind that cold mask. The clear, hard eyes were dimmed for a moment, and the firm lips were shaking. For the one and only time I caught a glimpse of a great heart as well as of a great brain. All my years of humble but single-minded service culminated in that moment of revelation.*

...basics*
name Johanna (joe-anna, not joe-hannah. The 'h' is silent, thank you.) Haley Walton
nickname 'Jo' by her friends, because honestly, she can't convince them otherwise. Never 'Annie' or 'Anna'. Ms. Walton by her students.
age 26.
gender Female.
grade N/A, though she teaches Honors and non-honors Anatomy & Physiology. And also subsitutes for the nurse when she's out. Her classroom is right across from the nurse's office, so. And one hour of health.
hometown New York City, New York
sexuality Bisexual, though she never plans on acting on her feelings for women. She's not even sure they're real or just a phase or something, and she's afraid of people rejecting her if they find out.
personification Dr. John Watson.
status Dormant.
face claim A. J. Cook
...appearance*
hair color Blonde. It's natural, but that doesn't mean she's stupid.
eye color A darker blue. Her father said that they reminded him of the blue part of the American flag, and he used to call her "Young Glory" when she was a kid, playing off of "Old Glory Blue". Though, they do tend to look lighter depending on what she's wearing and the type of lighting, very nearly reaching the color of a swimming pool.
build Average. She works out and keeps herself fit, so she can run fast and pick up heavy things without breaking a sweat.
height 5'7"
clothing style She prefers comfortable clothes, and usually borders on what the school's dress policy for teachers is and what she wants to wear (i.e. wearing jeans more often than she should, being too casual on non-casual days, etc.) She owns about three brightly colored articles of clothing/accessories total(a red dress, a pair of blue heels, and american flag earrings she only wears on american patriotic holidays), so it's safe to say that she prefers neutral colors.
distinctive traits TEXT HERE
...personal*
personality+ {courageous. emotionally sound. reliable. zealous.}
Johanna's courage is both a nature and nurture trait. Both her father and mother were brave and strong people, and they raised their daughter to be the same way. She rarely gets afraid of anything, and when she does, she tries to overcome it for the greater good. You have to have some outstanding intimidation tactics to break her, though a weakness of hers is people who have very high intelligence. It often blows her away at first and leaves her with a small bit of insecurity. But after a while, once she gets used to it, she actually enjoys speaking to people who are smarter than her because she feels like she learns from them. She's very eager to learn, and gets enthusiastic about a lot of things.
Johanna rarely betrays people she keeps close to her. In tough times, she'll stay strong and stand up for herself and her friends. She often finds herself being a shoulder to cry on of sorts, because she's good at listening to people explain situations and understanding what's going on(though she refrains from giving her opinion when she doesn't agree or understand), and will comfort any who need it.

+ {guileless. open about most things. can keep secrets.} -
Though she's not often asked many questions about herself, Johanna is rather open about most of her opinions and beliefs. Ask her what she thinks about gay rights, she'll tell you what she thinks is right and wrong about them, and why right outweighs wrong. Ask her if she believes in abortion, and she'll say it depends on the situation and give examples. Her opinions and beliefs are based on logic and practicality, and thus, people sometimes get offended when she answers a question about religious beliefs. That's one of the few times when she doesn't give a straight answer and only explains the possibilities of there being a God or not. She's not sure about her stand on that particular
Though when she is asked a question about her personal life, Johanna doesn't react the same. Her voice is quieter and she'll dismiss the question if she deems it inappropriate. For example, if someone asked her what her sexuality was, she would tell them that that's a personal question and move on. This also isn't just for the things she wants kept secret; she'll also avoid questions about her friends. Though she would never actually flat-out lie, she's pretty good at beating around the bush when it comes to a secret truth.

{unimaginative. predictable. brash. inflexible.} -
The reason Johanna is so partial to logic is that she really can't see any other way. She's not an unreasonable dreamer by any sense of the imagination, and bases her guesses at and wants of the future on statistics, past events, and what she can make of a personality. That isn't to say that she didn't dream of being a princess when she was four, but she knows now that being a dreamer can lead you nowhere unless your dreams actually have a chance of happening. This sort of leads to her being bad with small children, which is why she chose to teach at a high school level and a course that mostly upperclassmen take. Often times, she finds herself missing things that are obvious to other people because of her lack of imagination. Johanna tends to look at things one-sided, her-sided, so she is painfully predictable at times.
When it comes to things that really can't rely on logic to solve, though, she tends to rush into things head first. Sometimes, she even ignores the logic, if the reason for doing so was good enough. For example, if her closest friend was trapped in a burning building, she would rush in without thought and attempt to save them. For her, love often tops logic, and besides, she'll take any chance to jump into action. Which is pretty much her fatal flaw.
Another thing one could consider her fatal flaw is the fact that once she has her mind set on something, it takes some convincing to get her to change it. In fact, she has a firm belief that after the age of twelve, nothing short of a crisis can truly change people in any way.

past When Henry Walton met Charlotte Mimieux, it was the beginning of one of those classic war love stories. He had been a soldier who was on leave to visit his family, and his house had caught fire. He got his sister and himself out, and thier parents followed soon after. Charlotte was the attending nurse at the hospital the Waltons went to for the few minor burns and smoke-inhilation damage. It was quite obvious that there was attraction right away, though both of them were too embarrassed to admit it. Though, when he was about to leave after checking out, they exchanged numbers and it progressed from there. Charlotte's family was rich and had a pretty big house, and though they didn't approve of her career path as a nurse, they still approved of her enough to let the Waltons stay with them while they figured out other living arrangements.
He had two weeks left of his leave, and in those two weeks, Henry and Charlotte fell in love.
It was disrespectful and wrong, but some nights he would sneak into her room. With her absolute permission, of course, but it didn't feel appropriate when it was her house where her parents lived. But that didn't matter, because they were so in love that two days before he left to go back overseas, they got engaged, after getting permission from Charlotte's father, of course. He knew what was up the whole time, but approved because he knew what love felt like. Seeing as they didnt want to wait or take any chances, they got married the next day. It wasn't a big wedding like Mr. Mimieux had planned to have for his only daughter, but it was enough to know that she was happy.
And then the next day, he was gone. Well, on his way back overseas.
They exchanged letters whenever they could, but it wasn't often because it was difficult to contact him. The first of the letters sent was recieved three months after it was written, and what it contained was probably the most exciting and saddening news he had ever gotten. Charlotte Walton was expecting something neither of them had discussed but both of them were wanting.
It was exciting because he loved the idea of having a child, especially with Charlotte.
It was saddening because he knew he simply couldn't be there. Henry wouldn't be approved for leave in time to be there for Charlotte when thier baby was born, and he wouldn't be there to see her/him really grow up. The idea was like watching every other scene in his favorite movie to him. Taking up fatherhood in short bursts wasn't good enough.
A month later, he got another letter saying that she found out it was a girl, and that she was naming her Johanna after Henry's middle name, and asking what her middle name should be. She got the letter about a month after that suggesting Haley because it was Charlotte's late mother's name.
After that, a letter didn't come for a long while, and Henry wondered if he had said something in his last letter, though he knew it was just that letters were few and far between sometimes.
6 months later, Henry found out that Charlotte had a healthy baby girl named Johanna Haley Walton, and that she would probably have blonde hair like her mother and blue eyes like her father.
Charlotte knew that Johanna wouldn't have much of a father figure, but that was okay. For the first three years of Johanna's life, Henry was unable to visit. But, in a twist of fate, Henry injured his leg permanently, leaving him no longer able to serve. He was honorably discharged right before Johanna started kindergarten. Deciding they both needed better jobs to afford her school stuff, Charlotte became a PA for her father who worked at the World Trade Center, and Henry even got a desk job there too. The adjustment was difficult for him, but eventually he found it suited him better because he could be with his family. After a while, they even got a house of thier own.
The Waltons raised Johanna pretty well, for a couple who was still so completely in love with each other. Work mattered, of course, but the strong family connection was what made Johanna a fairly kind child who was bright because of her parent's early attention when it came to her development. She had a firm grasp of right and wrong pretty young and hardly ever acted out, even when she got to the teen years. For years, they seemed to be the picture-perfect American family.
Until.
Johanna woke up on September 11th of 2001 to a birthday surprise. It was early, really early, and her parents wanted to celebrate as soon as possible and before they had to go to work. Her Sweet Sixteen was going to be that Saturday, but her parents wanted to do something on her actual birthday, and they knew they would be staying late at work. It was fun and she got to eat cake for breakfast and open some of her presents early, before she even went to school that day.
That day.
Johanna was at school when it happened. The attack that would be remembered as one of the most tragic events in America's recent history. School had been cancelled and she was sent home, and she hoped that maybe, just maybe, her parents decided to surprise her by actually taking the day off.
That was the last time Johanna doubted what she knew to be the truth. She had seen them drive off before the bus came.
It was all a blur past that point. She had stayed home because she didn't know where else to go, pacing around and driving herself insane. Johanna got no sleep that night, though she layed on her bed and waited for her parents to come home.
But they never did.
Her father and mother were two out of so many people that died that day, in that attack. Johanna went back to live with her grandfather and aunt and uncle and cousin. She loved them, of course, but not the way she loved her parents and therefore she found it difficult to form a bond with them. That was okay, though, because she focused all her attention on school and academics. To Johanna, all she had left was her knowledge and her logic. School was the only place she felt she belonged, which is why she decided never to leave.
present After graduating Barrie University with a degree in science education, Johanna went back to Baum Academy to teach Anatomy & Physiology, her favorite subject. She knows the human body better than most, and very nearly became a school nurse. But no, teaching was what she wanted to do, so she did. She tends to be a little strict sometimes, but often lets her class talk after she's done with the lesson and ignores petty things like passing notes and texting.
Estranged from her family, she decided to get a small apartment that was a little low-end, even for a teacher's salary. She didn't want to leech off her grandfather, because she felt guilty that she couldn't connect with him the way she wanted to. Though, honestly, she does kind of want to move, because she's not used to such a small living space.

+ Mysteries. Well, mystery stories and novels, that is. Though she'd find it interesting if she were to stumble across a real one one day...
+ Writing. She does keep a journal of daily events. Well, not daily events. She only writes on days that were extra-ordinary.
+ Quiet time, because everyone needs some sometimes.
+ Her job. Johanna absolutely loves teaching.
+ Anatomy & Physiology. Well, it's the subject she teaches.
+ Her students. Well, most of the time. It's sort of a love-hate thing.
+ The works of Leonardo Da Vinci, mainly The Vitruvian Man.
- Guns. Just a hobby of hers. She goes to the shooting range sometimes, and has gotten pretty good.
dislikes
- Obnoxiously lous noises.
- Being outwitted, though it happens more often than not.
- When she doesn't see something that should be obvious.
- Blonde moments. Yes, she has them. She knows brunettes who have them. It happens.
- When people judge her before they know her.
- People who think they can change others. Stop. Seriously. People can only change if they are open to change.
- Immature students, though seriously, considering what she teaches, she needs to learn to love it.

book title The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
backstory Dr. John H. Watson is the first person narrator of all but four of the Sherlock Holmes stories. Though they start out as acquaintances/flatmates, the relationship grows and he is eventually considered Holmes' companion and partner-in-solving-crime and pretty much his best friend or even brother. Watson is intelligent, but lacks Holmes' insight. "You see, but you do not observe," as Holmes remarked in A Scandal in Bohemia. Sherlock is secretive and devious, while John is open and straightforward. Eventually, Dr. Watson learns from his companion and develops considerable deuctive powers of his own. All in all, Watson is very different than the title character, but each are both useful in their own ways.
