Lizzie was expecting Mary Anne any minute now.
She hadn’t texted or called to announce her coming over. It was just that sort of twin intuition. It was due to this that Lizzie also knew Mary Anne had good news, wonderful news. She wasn’t sure what it was but Lizzie was excited nonetheless. She loved when Mary Anne had news to tell; especially happy news because she didn’t know what to say when it came to bad news.
Lizzie had been lying about in her dorm room, rather bored. It was interesting, though, seeing all the places she could lay down and the different views from each. There were lots of places on the floor to lie, from all sorts of angles on her bed, and even from the desk (which she’d neatly put back together afterwards). It was surprisingly fascinating to see how the walls and ceiling looked from each place.
She was sitting by the window now. It was wide open and despite the air being chilly, Lizzie was thoroughly enjoying the weather. Her roommate probably wouldn’t too pleased to come back to a cold dorm so Lizzie was doing her best to remember that she’d have to close the window eventually. Perhaps after Mary Anne left. Oh, maybe she should prepare for the good news.
Then again, why would one need to prepare for good news? She was just being silly. Lizzie checked the wall clock and counted with it for fifteen seconds before shaking her head. This was no time to get distracted. She could tidy up. Lizzie certainly didn’t want her sister thinking she’d become a slob. Rising from her chair, Lizzie straightened out the bed sheets and picked up a few of her roommate’s magazines, leaving them on the desk.
Lizzie considered brushing her hair right quick but decided against it. That would only make matters worse. She didn’t want Mary Anne to burst in with good news right as Lizzie was getting a brush all tangled in the honey brown locks. Finally, she returned to her seat by the window and spun around, waiting until Mary Anne arrived with her happy wonderful news.

Mary Anne was bubbling over with excitement. She was positively tickled pink. Goodness, everything seemed so cheery and wondrously bright! Mary Anne was truly for what seemed like the first time since she'd left jolly old England. Everything about the city which she'd formerly despised seemed that much better. The city really was as wonderful as everyone seemed to think it was! Mary Anne was infinitely grateful for it. If she hadn't been moved from her home back in Europe, well, she would NEVER have had the chance to meet her one, her only, her true love Jack Solomon.
Oh, even his NAME was a biblical reference! It couldn't get any better!
Mary Anne hummed softly to herself as she marched right along the cold New York streets, heedless of any trouble in the world. Her cozy scarf was wrapped snugly around her neck and her warm cardigan kept her from feeling the bitter bite of the nippy weather. Oh, she had so so much to tell her darling sister! THIS was what Mary Anne had always looked down upon her whole life! This was the feeling that other people had flaunted so ostentatiously and Mary Anne had scorned mercilessly! Now that it was finally hers, now that she could finally experience it for herself, oh. It was so wonderful! She could understand why other people wanted to sing of their feelings for all the world to hear, to show their love without regret and without worrying about who saw. Mary Anne wanted that, now more than ever! She wanted to be able to parade down the halls, holding hands with the boy who would forever have her heart. She had finally found her other! Just as God had kept His promise to Sarah, Mary Anne was ready for Him to keep His promise to her.
Mary Anne's euphoria since that chance meeting and delightful tea time discussion had yet to wear off. Ever since she had left him at that Starbucks - that hallowed, wondrous Starbucks - Mary Anne had been a giggly little schoolgirl. She had twirled the paper flower he'd given her, the beautiful rose that must have taken him painstaking hours to craft to such perfection, all along the subway ride. She'd hummed daintily to herself through the streets. She'd stopped for a breathtaking moment to simply absorb the beauty of God's creations. Life was simply wonderful!
Finally arriving at her former school, Mary Anne giddily hurried up the stairs to her sister's room. She hadn't visited in so long, she had just realized, and that was an absolute tragedy! She had to tell her sister everything!
Knocking lightly on the door, Mary Anne called out in a sing song voice to her sister. "Lizzie! Sweetheart, it's me! Oh, goodness, open up! I have so much to tell you! You'll never BELIEVE the day I had!" Mary Anne's ecstatic energy was positively boiling over now that she was finally there. She couldn't wait to hear her sister's reciprocated joy for her.

Lizzie couldn’t have been spinning around for another ten minutes when there was a knock at her door. It was very shortly followed by her twin’s voice, in a singy-songy tone she’d never really heard before. Definitely happy wonderful news. Lizzie leapt up from her chair and gave the room one sweeping glance to make sure everything was settled before hurrying to the door. She pulled it open, a big smile on her face and her eyes wide with eager. “Come in, come in!” Lizzie exclaimed, stepping back to let Mary Anne in. Her sister looked very cozy, all wrapped up in her warm winter clothes.
Closing the door behind Mary Anne, Lizzie quickly made her way to the window, remembering that she was to close that before her roommate got back. This was as good a time as any since it had just come to her. Shutting the window as quickly as she could, Lizzie turned back to face her sister, completely ready to hear about the day Mary Anne had had. Lizzie settled back into her spinny chair, gesturing to the bed or any other available seats for Mary Anne to take. Unless she felt like twirling about the room, which Lizzie would definitely understand. When one was in as good a mood as her sister was, sitting seemed so boring compared to dancing around.
“I had this sort of feeling, you know…” Lizzie said, “that you had wonderful news.” She wondered if Mary Anne would understand what she meant. Didn’t all twins have that sort of intuition? She knew some who felt pain when the other was hurt. That seemed a bit much, though. It would be quite unfortunate, since Lizzie did have those moments of pain-before-incidents. She’d seemed lucky enough lately as it hadn’t happened in awhile. Then again, she probably had just jinxed herself. Trying to ignore that bit of bad luck, she focused back on her twin sister, smiling wide again and waiting patiently to hear all about the wonderful day Mary Anne had.
