Bennie had just gotten back from Europe. And not 'just gotten back' as in the day before yesterday, but 'just gotten back' as in a few hours ago. While the New York City air wasn't pleaseant to breathe, it was something she missed while away in the summer time. She always planned this, coming back on this particular day, simply because she was already packed and it made sense to move into her new dorm for junior year on this lovely day.
Lovely day with ominous clouds that almost delayed her flight, but to Bennie, every day was lovely if you could find a reason for it. And this reason was that she was going to have a new roommate and hopefully friend. She hoped they were moving in today, too. A lot of people did, but some decided to wait, and she was okay with that. Bennie was patient unlike her other Shakespearean counterparts, and she could wait to meet... what was her name? Carlie O'Callaghan. Her name certainly saounded Irish, which her parents sounded none too happy about when she had told them. Maybe they had issues with the O'Callaghans or the Irish in general, she didn't know, but she would have no part of it. Prejudice was what had gotten Volie's cousin and friend killed, and that was enough for her to ignore it at any cost.
She convinced the nice driver to help her carry her bags up to the Junior dorms at Barrie, though not too many. She could handle some herself, and she would have hated to impose. Bennie was almost too excited, though, for her junior year and the new dorm and everything. Once all her bags were in her room, she realized her roommate wasn't here yet. Oh.
Well, normal college students would have claimed the bed... But Bennie just couldn't. They could be held up in traffic or something out of their control, and if they were more comfortable on the other side... No, she would just wait. While she did, however, she began unpacking, and filled up one side of the closet with all her clothes and shoes, leaving exactly half for Carlie.
Seeing as she had nothing better to do, she took out a scrapbook she made of this particular Europe trip and looked through it, sitting on the floor. Getting there was a bit of an issue as her shoes had large wedge heels, but she got there and skimmed through it, missing the continent as a whole already. New York City was exciting, though, and she loved it here. But Europe would always be her home and she would return there once she was finished with her schooling more often than she did.
Hearing the doorknob turn, she set her scrapbook on the floor and opened it. So, here was her roommate... and she was beautiful. Volie gasped from somewhere in the back of her mind and she thought it was just for that reason, but maybe it was something else. "Hello, I'm Benjamine Montaine, but you can call me Bennie." She held out her hand to shake, smiling.

Why had Carlie come to America again? To find Sutton, yes, but did that mean she had to stay here and attend college? No, probably not. Carlie was cursing her perfect hindsight everyday since she had left Ireland. It wasn't that there were perks to living in New York; the fashion was incredible! But for a "melting pot", people could be so...what was the right word? Ignorant. It seemed like everytime she went to the store or a coffee shop, someone had to ask "Oh my gosh, where are you from?!" "Are you English?!" Carlie was amazed how surprised people seemed over her, just a simple Irish girl.
Hopefully, her new roommate wouldn't be like that.
Because Carlie had transferred all her credits over and decided to continue working towards her degree, she was moving into her dorm room today. No more schnazzy hotel, though Carlie did like the novelty of dorm life. Carlie wondered what her roommate-Benjamine Montaine-would be like. Back in her old college in Dublin, Carlie's roommate Becky seemed nice at first. They were the same kind of person: fashionable attention-seekers, the girls who had parental issues. Becky was in a good bit deeper than Carlie was, though: binge drinking, random hookups. They were friends, though, and Becky introduced Carlie to Harrison. It had been great, but Carlie didn't need any rememberence of how that turned out. No, Carlie didn't blame Becky. How would she have known Harrison was like that? The girls had drifted apart, though, and Carlie didn't even have her email address. Maybe Carlie and this Benjamine girl would become close friends.
They could even start today, if she was even there. Carlie had never met the girl, so she had no idea what her plans for moving in would be. Hopefully she'd be there today. Even if Carlie beat her, she didn't mind waiting. There was certainly a lot of unpacking to do. Standing outside the dorm building, Carlie glanced down at her multitude of bags. Well, she definitely hadn't thought about that. Carlie ran a slender hand through her hair before she began to grab as many bags as possible. It couldn't be that long of a walk...
Three trips later, Carlie had dragged everything to the outside of her dorm. Geez, times like then, Carlie wished she was Sutton (aka, the strong twin). She'd have to start lifting weights or something. Okay, moment of truth. Carlie opened the door to see a pretty brunette on the floor with what appeared to be a scrapbook. Something stirred in the back of her mind, like she recognized her roommate from somewhere, but Carlie shook it away.
"Hello, I'm Benjamine Montaine, but you can call me Bennie."
Carlie smiled, eagerly shaking Bennie's hand. She seemed so sweet, Carlie could tell they'd get along! "Nice to meet you! Me name's Carlie O'Callaghan...You can call me Carlie. Can't say I have any nicknames." Laughing, Carlie glanced back at her pile of things. Okay, this would be a piece of cake compared to the three big trips she just took. Carlie walked to the edge of the pile of boxes and just pushed this time, managing to get everything in. "Wow. This'll take a while." Carlie chuckled, wiping at her forehead. Physical labor had never been her favorite.
