Despite being only a junior at Baum, Hazel Grace preferred more than anything to hang around the Barrie campus when she could. Some might say it was a bit of senioritis in her blood, but in reality Hazel Grace just really wanted to fit in with the older kids. She wanted them to say 'hey, she's still in high school, but she's cool. I like her.' Hazel always liked to older kids better anyway, she felt more mature around them. Hazel Grace couldn't wait to get into college here at Barrie and be able to party with the popular kids, and then make friends with everyone she met, simply because they liked her. She hardly had friends who really really liked her at Baum, and all she wanted was some people who appreciated her company. In all, she missed what she had in middle school in London, despite all the bad habits formed. She wanted to be around people, and she wanted people to be around her.
Hazel Grace casually made her way across the quad on campus, humming to herself as she tugged on the ends of her bright red hair, her blue eyes scanning around for a cute boy, or a girl who seemed popular. Her teeth gnawed lightly at her bottom lip and she felt a knot tightening in her stomach. People would occasionally glance at her, and she felt like just by looking they knew she didn't belong here. Hazel Grace sighed inwardly and shook her head slightly, standing up straighter and strolling along like she belonged on the campus, even if she didn't. She made her way over to a large tree and leaned up against it, scanning the grassy area once more. She smiled and waved slightly at a group of people passing her by, earning a few odd looks as well as a couple smirks and upturned noses. Hazel Grace frowned slightly but shrugged, sliding down the tree to sit at the base.
Pulling her knees up to her chest, she couldn't help but feel inadequate to all these pretty, mature, smart college girls. It almost felt like everyone, especially the guys, were looking straight through her. She bleated softly to herself, scrunching her nose as she waved the thought away with her hand. She let her knees drop down as she fixed herself, stretching out her long legs. She tugged again on the ends of her hair, wrapping it around her fingers as she looked around for anyone who might be coming her way.
