So there really was no reason for Kayden to have been at the masquerade. To be frank, she wasn't sure why she'd gone out and spent money on a dress and a mask and everything else when she was basically going to spend the entire evening sitting off to the side. Plus it was an all ages thing, so it wasn't even like she had a chance for someone to get her a glass of wine or something.
It was weird, really.
She had no motivation for being here, but there she was- sitting. As she did so, she fidgeted. She adjusted her mask, she smoothed her dress, she picked at imaginary bits of fuzz, she did absolutely anything to distract herself from the fact that she was incredibly, irreconcilably alone. Sure, she recognized a person here or there, but her usual preference for company was gone. She felt the gap left by Jared now more than ever.
And it was there, in that crowded room, that she felt more isolated than she had in a long time. The only thing she could do was take a deep breath and go find herself something to drink. Punch, or whatever they were serving that night. Maybe they would have a bar and she could get a glass of wine. She wasn't getting her hopes up as she walked along the edge of the room, trying to keep herself from breaking down altogether. She refused to lose her cool.
No. She would be fine. She had made it this far, and she would be okay.

It had be a loooong time since Petal had worn a dress like the one she had on. It was a gorgeous gown that had the most perfect mixture of green and blue. Though they weren’t her favorite colors, Petal still loved them. As soon as the invitation arrived in her mail, she went shopping. A masquerade sounded like just the perfect thing for her new adventures around the city. In honor of the ball, she closed the studio and let a few of her students hold a dress sale so that everyone could look gorgeous! Who wouldn’t want to slide across the dance floor in a stunning gown and dance?
Petal had smoothed down her hair and made up her face. She always wanted to try bright red lipstick with an outfit so she added the red last minute with a coat of gloss. It turned out pretty fabulous if she did say so herself. She looked more sleek yet still her fun self. She loved twirling across the dance floor by herself; anyone could tell Petal was easily entertained. It didn’t really bother her that no one asked her to dance. In fact, that probably was a good thing. She still seemed to get the jitters when just thinking about her and Zaney’s kiss.
She brushed off the thought, noticing it made her misstep. The slight pause in her movement caused her to realize she needed a drink. Now, where was the drink table thing? The huge crowd made the not-too-short Petal seem like a dwarf. When she finally found refugee at a table with a punch bowl. A nicely dressed lady poured a cup for Petal and helped her find an open seat. There seemed to be only one sorta of empty table. There was one girl in the chair. Petal didn’t need an empty table! She could make friends. Pulling out the chair next to the girl, she put on a friendly smile. That’s when she noticed the girl’s gorgeous dress!
“Hello! I’m Petal, what’s your na- Oh my, I love you dress!”
