Jamie felt silly. Yes, even after the nice clothes he had to wear to work for Maggie, and even knowing that this was being planned for as long as it was, he felt silly. That didn't stop Amy from assuring him that he looked "snazzy," "pimpin'," "dapper as fuck" and all kinds of other things involving lots of adjectives, sometimes used in a way contrary to the rules of grammar because Amy spends too much time on the internet, and it didn't stop her from insisting he go. Honestly, with everything happening with Liam, he hadn't really wanted to go, but he was going to take Amy in the hopes that they could make everything good for each other. As long as he didn't embarrass his boss, it'd all be fine.
It was why he stuck with the replica World War II military dress uniform, his hair slicked to the side in a style that was more period, and went anyway. He'd considered using a gas mask as his 'masquerade mask', but it was Maggie who'd changed his mind on that one, mostly just because he knew she wouldn't appreciate his fashion sense on that one; he'd gone with a simple affair that covered the top half of his face in a color and design that matched the rest of the uniform, and called it a day. It wasn't about him, anyway, it was about Amy.
Amy, who was currently in the bathroom, or somewhere, and had promised him that she'd find him if he wanted to wander a little. She'd said that his costume was unique enough that she wouldn't have any difficulty, and they both had phones on them, so why not?
Actually, the whole concept of a masquerade, Jamie was finding, was actually a little silly in itself. Also, to a wolf, it was strangely...straightforward. Not to the extent of, say, Merlin watching Memento, but the whole point of everyone wearing the masks was that you didn't know who they were, right? Jamie could have found anyone in the room, followed them, knew way more about them than he should have, and the only things he didn't know were what their full faces looked like. It's amazing the smells you carry along with yourself throughout the day, what lingers on you. A teacher, a cop, there are different smells that betray everyone, which also helped steer Jamie away from some of the...more dangerous guests. It wasn't even that he was afraid of anyone in specific, but that there were smells he didn't trust and had every reason not to. Jamie wasn't stupid, not by a long shot.
In the end, he ended up taking up a spot by the buffet table, certain that Amy would find her way over here without any real prodding.
