Okay, so at his most basic, Jamie is a good guy who had a rough time of it. Liam is his absolute best friend in the world who he will do anything for, which is saying something because he doesn't trust people lightly. He'll joke and hang out with most people, but considering the abusive childhood and the fact that the rest of growing up basically sucked (except for Liam's presence), it's hard to go from acquaintance-and-casual-friend to good-friend with him. He hits up the party scene when he's upset and has been known to get incredibly drunk and fall into bed with both guys and girls those nights, but he tends to 'date' girls. It's hard to really 'get' to him if you don't like him or wanna see him tick, because he's ridiculously aware of his own flaws and will throw them out there himself for shock value if someone tries it. It's hard to insult someone who doesn't seem ashamed.
