She'd come into some money. And thankfully, it hadn't been obtained in an illegal way, or through a deal that Rory was notorious for making. Her sister, Nicolette, had sent some money down from their home in Montreal, having found a good job while she was taking the semester off. The job paid well enough that their father wasn't working too hard to make ends meet, like he had in the past, and there was some left over to send down to America.
Which was how the fairy had convinced Rory to splurge a little on herself. Usually, Rory went to thrift stores for her clothing, and would mend them until they looked nearly brand new. Plus, there was the whole idea of knowing what to wear to flatter this or that when it came to your body, something Rory was proud of saying that she understood. But buying brand new clothes from a boutique or franchise? This was a treat of its own.
Rory strolled around the third floor of the mall, feeling a little giddy despite herself. She really should save the money, in case something fell through at home. Then she'd be able to help out again, send some money up to her sister and father. They'd finally managed to pay off all the medical bills that insurance hadn't covered, and they were free from debt. Rory included.
She had managed to pay off all of her own secret debts, which was a miracle in itself. So many times she had borrowed from people, people who had taken advantage of her innocence and young age. But now? Now there was nothing else she had to pay. This money in her hands? It was all hers, and hers alone.
"See?" she could hear the good fairy whispering in her head as Rory smiled at the thought of having a little spending money. "You deserve this money. You've worked so hard in the past to help people. It's about time you helped yourself."
The fairy was always like that; she fretted whenever Rory worried about other people instead of herself. The brunette would receive weekly lectures inside her head about how she didn't take care of herself often enough, but usually Rory just pushed the advice to the back of her mind and ignored the fairy. But today? Maybe she'd follow the fairy's advice.
Rory was merely strolling at this point; window-shopping, if you will. But then there was a light tingling feeling going through her body, and suddenly, the fairy was more alert than ever. "Do you see that girl?"
Rory glanced in the direction the fairy was pointing her to mentally, seeing a girl just a few years older than her with blonde hair, looking at the window of a dress store with a thoughtful expression. "Umm, yes?" Rory thought back uneasily, hoping that the fairy wasn't about to go crazy on her. The last thing she needed was for the fairy to be taking over her body. Over the years, it seemed like the fairy got a bit stronger, and had managed to figure out ways to influence Rory's actions. It took some effort at times to keep control, but Rory knew that if the fairy wanted something, then she'd end up getting it eventually.
"Go over to her," the fairy was demanding. Rory could imagine the fairy -- they'd come up with a little person in her head together when she was younger -- standing with her hands on her hips and her face set with determination. Oh, yes. This was a time when the fairy was bound to get her own way. "Now!"

For being a fashion major, Abigail hadn't gone shopping in ages. And to her, ages meant a whole freaking month. Do you know how long that was for someone like Abby? Way too long, of course!
Now most of the time, Abigail kept to the second floor where the standard clothes stores were (American Eagle, PacSun, that kind of thing). It was mainly because that was what was affordable for the college student who also had to take care of and clothe a growing one year old. Everyone once and a while, Abby found herself with some extra money (usually from Sahara) that she could spend on herself. Marley had enough toys, all sorts of different outfits, the pantry was stocked full of food and the bills were paid. That meant it was time for shopping, and today, Abby was going to treat herself up on the third floor, where all the fancy boutiques were.
That morning, Abigail had fed Marley and gotten the toddler ready for the day. "You're gonna spend the day with Miss Ivy!" Abby said, using her animated voice she saved for Marley. Everytime she'd had to rely on someone else to take care of her Marley, her niece, a little piece of Abigail's heart broke. Already, the infant's own mother had failed on her and Abby had been there to pick her right up. So from day one, Abby had felt like Marley was one hundred percent her responsibility and felt like an awful aunt...or mother...to have to drop her off with anyone else. Abigail knew that Ivy would take good care of her, though, and knew that she'd have to sacrifice her pride over the years to care for Marley.
So Abigail had gone to Ivy's apartment and dropped Marley off, only tearing up a little bit when her niece said "Buh momma!". One of these days, or more like in a few years, Abigail was going to have to tell Marley that Aunt Nat was really Momma and that Momma was really Aunt Abby. But for now, Abigail was content with Marley believing she was her mother. God knew that if Natalie still had custody of her, she'd be in foster care.
For the beginning of her shopping trip, Abby had scoured the second floor in search for birthday presents for Marley. The college student had found several toys and had even gone through "Build-a-Bear" and made a fluffy brown teddy bear. Now it was time for Abigail to shop, so she made her way to the third floor and browsed windows. Most of the things were super expensive, anyways, so Abby didn't bother to go in. And although she didn't care what people thought about her, she knew that while her outfit was chic and stylish, the bags she was laden down with screamed "teen mom". Most of the time, the people who worked in these boutiques were super bitchy to anyone they deemed unworthy of shopping there. Which was funny, thought Abigail, because most of them made jack squat.
As she was gazing at a particular dress in one of the windows, something she was tempted to go in and try on, Fairy Godmother perked up. Abby looked up, almost expecting the plump fairy to appear next to her, even though that wasn't going to happen. FG was smarter than that, of course. "Abigail! There is another fairy!" Fairy Godmother's voice was ringing with excitement. Abigail turned to look over her shoulder and sure enough, there was a girl staring right back at her. Abby could recognize the faint aura around this other girl that other awakened incarnates gave off. "Go! Introduce us!" Giving a little eye roll at the Fairy Godmother's persistance, Abigail sauntered up to the other girl.
"Hey! I'm Abigail Dustin. Also known as the Fairy Godmother," Abby added the last part in a whisper so that other mall-goers wouldn't hear. The last thing she wanted was to be locked up in the crazy shack. "Who exactly are you?" If nothing, Abigail was bold and got straight to the point.

The fact that the other girl had walked up to her and introduced herself -- and apparently, her own fairy -- was enough to make the good fairy in Rory's head practically explode with joy. That same fact, however, was rubbing Rory in a different way. She had been all for ignoring the fairy and just continuing her window-shopping, seeing if she really wanted to splurge on herself. But no. This had to happen.
"Umm, Rory Thompson," the brunette introduced with a bit of hesitation, giving the girl a weird look. For a long time, Rory had been convinced she was the only person -- besides schizophrenics -- who believed that there was a fairy in her head. Heck, she had worried that she'd been schizophrenic. But what were the odds of meeting someone else in a mall who believed she was a fairy as well?
Very slim, to be honest.
"And I guess I'm the....seventh good fairy?" Rory added, speaking slowly. Not because she thought that this Abigail girl wouldn't understand her or something. No, it was instead because the good fairy was freaking out in her head, getting all excited about meeting the other. Apparently, a fairy godmother was a great thing. A great friend, actually.
From what Rory could gather from the gabbing fairy, the fairy godmother was a friend of hers. Not necessarily one of her sisters, who were the other six good fairies, but still close to them. She had been the one who helped Cinderella find out her destiny, just like the good fairy in Rory's head had assisted Briar Rose in the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty.
But those weren't fairy tales. As Rory was forever being reminded of. These tales had actually happened, but people had just stopped believing them as time went on. It was like Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny. They'd once existed, but their legends had started to die out. Or at least that's what the fairy said.
"Umm, forgive me for asking, but how exactly did you know that I had a fairy?" Rory asked quietly, feeling ridiculous voicing that question. Here she was, nearly an adult, and she was telling an almost complete stranger that she had a fairy. Half the time Rory didn't even believe it herself, but now she was believing in not only her own fairy, but this girl's as well. How had she not ended up in an insane asylum? How had this blonde not?
"Oh, hush," the fairy scolded Rory in her head, giving the mental image of the fairy herself shaking her head in a disappointed way. "You know better than to behave in such a way. Show some manners and act like a lady."
Ugh. Rory was always supposed to act like a lady. But she could certainly well act like a lady without the fairy's help. Besides, acting like a lady was different now than it had been when the fairy was alive and kicking. They had more rights and opportunities than the women had in the fairy's time. Plus, there weren't fairies floating around, granting gifts and lifting curses.
"That wasn't kind. Now, really, Memory. Behave yourself with this girl. Her fairy is a very important being, and I don't want you messing things up for me."
Easier said than done.
