...personal*
personality Drew loves to make fun of himself. He loves to make people laugh by putting him in an odd position, or making fun of his own mistakes, but only in his quirky, goofy way. He doesn't really care if people make fun of him behind his back, and if they do it to his face, he just turns it around and makes it funny. That's just how he is.
Drew always seems to stick out like a sore thumb. When he just hangs around with his friends, people tend to take a second glance. Drew can't figure out why, but he just doesn't look like he fits in with his group of friends. He's tried hanging out with some other people far out of his range of friends, but still he feels like the odd ball. So he just sticks around, being the odd one in his group of, not-so-popular friends. He doesn't want to be popular though, and most of his friends agree, and they just love to laugh at how cool the popular kids think they are.
Drew is often over confident. He often boasts he can do things, that he really can't, and he isn't the strongest guy out there, but he gets in quite a few fights.
Mostly, Drew is very relaxed, but he hates it when people mess with his friends. He is very loyal and will stand up to almost anyone who messes with his friends, even if those people are able to mess up his face. Sometimes, his loyalty gets him into fights, or just into the principle's office. He's spent a lot of time of the last 12 years in the principle's office, and for many reasons. Pranks, fights, and disrespect to the teaching authority being the top three.
past At 7:32 am on September 24 Andrew was born to Mary Saelens in Salem Oregon seventeen years ago. Then things went wrong. Something went wrong when Mary had Andrew, and she soon died. The boy, Andrew's, father had gone missing nearly five months ago. The nurses didn't know what to do with the boy, so they gave him to a foster-care building, to find a new family.
Drew was adopted into the Carter family, and Molly and Jerry Carter treated him as their own son, but their own children did not think the same of him. He always stood out, and that's just in looks. All the carters had pale blonde hair, and dank blue or gray eyes, and Drew, with his dark hair and vibrant green eyes stuck out like a sore thumb. He grew up pretty normally for any child. He lived a pretty laid back existence until the bulling started.
When he was in middle school he was always bullied about being a foster child, and he hated it. He stopped talking a lot, and pretended to be sick so he wouldn't have t go back to school. He would still be like that if it weren't for Celia.
Drew met Celia in the 6th grade and she was one of the few who were actually kind to him. They started hanging out, and soon became best friends. Celia stood up for him, when no one would, and would always help him. Drew loved her like a sister, and was happy to be friends with her.
Then, the cancer struck her down, in the summer before 10th grade. She could no longer go see Drew and, and he was not aloud to see her. She had to go through many treatments, in hope to cure it. Drew started to slip back into the silence that was him before he had met her. Then, the Carters started a plan to move to New York City, a long way away from Oregon.
When Drew and his family were only a day away from the move, Drew was finally allowed to see Celia, before he left. She was a lot better than he thought she would be, and still acted like herself, except for a few strict words that Drew would never forget, "Don't forget me, and don't get quiet again. If you go into a depression I will hunt you down to New York until you're your damn Happy self again." Then Celia smiled, "Promise you'll write," and Drew agreed.
And so they did. The Carters and Drew moved into an apartment in New York and during Drew's 10th grade year, he was sent to Baum Academy, and that's where this story begins.
present
Now, as already said, Drew attends Baum Academy. Just like all the other Baum Acdademy students, he attends his classes, stays in a dorm on campus. He's got a good group of friends that will stick with him, and laugh at his terrible jokes, and who force him not to skip every class, every day.
Drew doesn't get terrible grades, but he's not AP class material either. He's mostly passing, barely, except English. He's gotten good at writing letters, especially, so he's got a good B. He's often teased, but it usually doesn't bug him much, and he's just glad to kind of fit into a group. He's looking at getting a job later, and that's about it.

...literature*
book title The Ugly Duckling
backstoryWhen the tale begins, a mother duck's eggs hatch. One of the little birds is perceived by the duck’s neighbors as a homely little creature and suffers much verbal and physical abuse. He wanders sadly from the barnyard and lives with wild ducks and geese until hunters slaughter the flocks. He then finds a home with an old woman but her cat and hen tease him mercilessly and again he sets off on his own. He sees a flock of migrating wild swans; he is delighted and excited but he cannot join them. Winter arrives. A farmer finds and carries the freezing little bird home, but the foundling is frightened by the farmer’s noisy children and flees the house. He spends a miserable winter alone in the outdoors but, when spring arrives, he is welcomed into a flock of beautiful swans for he has matured into one of them.
