Okay so I have always had an infatuation with twins. (Weird? Yes I agree) Anyhoot! My story/plot start with one Main Character, Ryan, who would form an Alter Ego, Rain. But then I realized that the plotholes would be crazy hard to fill. So I was like, okay I'll add a Twin, Rick.... ANYWHY! Here is my idea(so far):
"One New Voicemail" delves into the the lives of Ryan and Rick, identical twins who are seemingly the same in all aspects. They grow up in foster care together and realize that the only person they can count on is each other. On their eighteenth birthday, they are released from foster care and thrown out into the world with only a few dollars and the clothes on their backs. Rick discovers that people are low and shameless enough to have sex and pay them for it and Ryan is dragged in when he is mistaken for Rick.
They devise a system of contact between them and their customers. The system is called Voicemail. It is not like on a phone, but it is a voice recording hidden in certain areas of the city. Rain becomes a well-known sex deviant and both women and men line up to be with him.
Rick creates an alias, Rain, for them to hide behind. Rain soon envelopes Rick's every thought and action.
Ryan starts to see their lives spiral out of control, while Rick (Rain) is blinded by the lust and greed. Ryan can no longer tolerate the actions of Rain and Rick can no longer control his altered self, however; after a run in with the police, death of a customer, and a tragic accident. The brothers have to reevaluate their lives and choose a path to travel down.
I have spoken to some twins that I know personally and they told me WAY different things.
Barbara and Brandi:
“As far as specifics, the twins I know best (my best friends) look very much alike and did all of the same things in school. They had the same friends, took the same classes, played the same sports, got the same grades, etc. That being said, there were always differences. One twin was a little more philosophical and the other was more practical. They both ran track, but one was better at long distance and the other in the shorter races. They had similar tastes in foods and things, but one twin hates eggs and tuna while her twin sister likes them both." <----My Summary of what they told me!
"I don't know how old your twins will be, but the biggest difference in twins I know (the twins who are very similar, that is) is the type of people they fall in love with. One twin friend has ended up with someone very outgoing and fun while the other is with a man who is pretty quiet but super protective of her."<---Barbara's Words of Wisdom
"As far as foster care, if we were in foster care I'd imagine us to be unusually protective of each other. It doesn't mean we wouldn't get annoyed with each other, but we'd try to stick together. One or the other has taken turns in life being the responsible protective one, it just switches every few years or so. "<----Brandi's Two-Cents
Then I emailed my old High School English Teacher(who is a twin) my plot and she said:
“Your plot sounds interesting. Can I make a couple of suggestions? I can see that you want to make Ryan and Rick very similar in the beginning, try not to make it so similar that it's confusing. Also, my sister and I tend to behave similarly when we are around each other, and differently after we are apart. (Environment and all that.) So, if you want to really delve into that aspect, you could have Ryan in the immediacy of a situation and Rick a little more removed. Or the high-strung situation might happen to one twin, leaving one to recover and the other to cope. Things like sudden illness, medical emergency, or even punishment that affected my sister always had a huge effect on me, as well.”
ANYCAHHOOTS!
I am planning to break my novel into chapters.
For Example;
For Example, 'Chapter 1' would be Ryan, 'Chapter 2' would be Rick, and so forth.
At the end of each 'chapter,' the next 'chapter' will pick up from the other twins point of view.
^--That makes sense right? Bah!
And here are the excerpts that I put on NaNo....
"No one ever told us the truths about having sex. No one ever cared enough to tell us the wrongs about selling yourself for money. No one ever loved us enough to find us help. When I realized that we were in trouble, the damage was seemingly irreparable."
~Ryan
"No one ever told me the beauty of creating a new name for yourself. The only chains to held me down were from my twin. He didn't understand the freedom that Rain brought me. I was scared for Ryan's safety because Rain wanted him dead."
~Rick
PLEASE give me some feedback...I think I need it.
Thanks. Lovers you guys! =)
