If Addison was one thing besides creative, it was over bearing… in the maternal way. She was almost annoyingly protective over her friends, and she badgered them about finishing their homework and getting enough sleep. She tried to make sure they were eating three square meals a day, but she understood school and afterschool activities (unsavory included). Addison even skipped lunch sometimes because the food at Baum was so unsatisfying, and she hardly ever had time to go to her dorm for a proper meal. None of this really mattered, anyway. She knew for a fact that the person she was checking out ate plenty of food. It was as if Oswald Wagers was always hungry. Addison made a mental note to call him Ozzie, which was what everybody called him, anyway.
If she was going to get any answers out of him, she’d need to be extra nice. She’d just have to
a) call him by his nickname, which he preferred b) make him lots of food c) be subtle
and her questions would be answered in no time. With this simple list in mind, Addison had started early that Saturday morning with her baking. Everybody liked cookies, and she’d been craving cupcakes lately, anyway. Two birds with one stone, right? She’d then called Andie to see what sort of foods were Ozzie’s favorites. Addison had expected a lot to work with, since he did love food so much. She’d just hoped that they were things she could actually make. Addison was still learning, after all. Pickle was supposed to teach her soufflés next week and Addison was planning on looking online beforehand, so she’d be at least a little prepared.
Once Addison was satisfied with the plates upon plates of food, she texted Ozzie and asked him to come over. It was simple enough. She’d accidentally gone on a cooking/baking spree and she needed a taste tester. As soon as she’d finished, she grabbed a notebook and hurriedly scribbled down some questions she wanted to ask him. Subtle. Right. Maybe she would just start off with how he’d met Andie. Or if he knew anybody else in their little group of friends, like Freddie or Will or Pickle. That seemed innocent enough. Addison almost called the entire thing off, realizing just how odd she was being. It was one thing to ask Andie about this via note passing. It was an entirely different thing to actually interrogate the boy.
Evidently, she thought, it’s too late to back out, for there had just been a knock at the door. Laughing at herself for being so silly, she ignored the doubt and decided to go on with her plan. No reason to let all this food to go to waste, anyway. Making her from the kitchen to the door, Addison took her apron off and tossed it over her chair in very un-Addison-like behavior and opened the door. “Ozzie! Come in, come in. Hurry, before the food gets cold! ”

There was only one thing in the world Ozzie liked more than food: Andie. His girlfriend came before everything, actually. For someone who never took anything seriously, Ozzie didn't play around when it came to his feelings for Andie. Suffice to say, Ozzie had an abnormal love of food and always jumped at the chance to have some. When he got the text from Addie, Ozzie leaped into pants (did the guy ever wear them?!) and reluctantly pulled a tshirt on (one of those Jack Wills shirt as a little shoutout to his bro, Jackson. Ozzie had a love of all clothes punny.) before tripping out the door, he couldn't get there fast enough.
It was weird, when he thought about it. Addie was a lot like his own mother: caring, protective, a bit overbearing (in all the good ways, of course). It was definitely nice knowing her; since his mother had died, Ozzie would be the first to admit that he did need a mother-like figure in his life. The mother-like figure came as a girl two years younger than him, but that was okay. What was a bit weird, though, was that Addie had cooked too much stuff. That didn't seem like her...unless she had a purpose. But Ozzie just laughed at that; he was getting food! Why worry, man?
Maybe she wanted to get to know him a little more. It made sense, since Addie and Andie were good friends. Weren't girls supposed to do that? Get to know their friend's boyfriend? Yeah, that had to be. And what better way to become friends than over food? If Ozzie was honest with himself, though, he had been wanting to get to know Addie more. There was this...pull inside him. A little voice, too, which scared the bejeezus out of him. The voice only came about in dreams and for some reason, the voice referred to Addie as Wendy. Weird, right?
Hells yes, there was Addie's dorm room! Ozzie's stomach growled in anticipation of all the scrumptious food awaiting him. Just as he knocked on the door, Addie told him to come on in. Oh god it was like Christmas morning, when Siobhan would instruct Ozzie to keep his eyes closed and would lead him down to the family room. She would say "Alright, Oswald, open yer eyes." and then there would be a nice display of presents, his stocking would have toys and candy in it and the plate where he put cookies for Santa and carrots for the reindeer would only have crumbs on it. Ozzie missed those days, but now he got to relive them. As he opened the door, Ozzie's jaw dropped and his stomach roared. In front of him was a mass of sweets, all more scrumptious looking than the next.
"Addie! Are ye tryin to make me fat?" Ozzie chuckled, shaking his head. He tried to look all nonchalant and chill, but he was freaking out on the inside. "Awww man look at all this food I get to eat!!!" He was beyond excited, even though he could already envision all the bicycles, planks, situps and other heinous ab exercises he would have to do to burn these suckers off. Plopping down in a chair, Ozzie popped a cookie in his mouth. Oh, sweet and glorious day. A goofy grin split Ozzie's face as he chewed up the cookie. Well, he didn't chew it. The cookie was so warm and gooey and amazing that it melted right in his mouth. "Addie oh me gosh, these are amazing!" He said after swallowing. Man, if that was one cookie, Ozzie couldn't wait to sample the rest.

Now that he was actually here, Addison wasn’t sure how her plan would work. She wasn’t even hungry, so it wasn’t like she could sit and eat the sweets with him. That had been her plan, to have a simple casual conversation while eating, like normal people do. She’d been snacking during her entire baking spree, though, which left her stomach quite full. She really wasn’t at all hungry, not even a bit. … Maybe she could nibble on a cupcake. (And how was it that she forgot every time that Ozzie was Irish? She really couldn’t figure it out. It was always this big shock when she next spoke to him, hearing his accent, the interesting way he spoke. She tried not to be obvious about it, but she was a cliché when it came to girls and accents.)
Addison laughed, “no, no, of course not! ” She led the way to the kitchen, gesturing to two seats where the counter in front of them was cleared. Other than that, the surface was covered in sweets and Ozzie’s favorite food(s). Addison grabbed a cupcake for herself, trying to enjoy at least the frosting even though that had always been her least favorite part (too sweet). “I just made way too much food. Clearly.” For a second, she almost looked alarmed by how much she’d made. What was she supposed to do with all of the leftovers? (Well, yeah, plenty of her friends could eat an 8-course meal no problem, but how was she supposed to get this food to them? No way did she have enough Tupperware). She balanced the notebook on her lap, careful not to drop it. The last thing she wanted was to draw attention to her questions. If he hadn’t already figured it out (which she was sure he could, Ozzie was a smart kid), she didn’t want to make the whole thing blindingly obvious. Letting one hand rest gently on the notebook to keep it from falling, she propped her elbow up on the counter and rested her chin on her palm. “ I’m glad! I could never be the taster of my food. I think I’d be too quick to judge.” In the she-had-made-them-so-they-must-be-good sort of way, as she was with her stories. (Could she write a story about a food kingdom? A strange idea, but the muse was starting to kick in with all this food sitting in front of her). Right, okay. Subtle. “ You know, it’s a good thing I met you through Andie. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had anybody else to call over.” Okay, maybe a little bit of a lie. No more of those, she thought. “ How did you two meet, anyway?” Yes, good, subtle! Why, she was a professional at this. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

When it came to food, Ozzie thought he was pretty well versed in the subject. Especially cooking; despite being a leprechaun, Ozzie could be found in an apron (yes, an apron), seasoning turkey, cooking corn, potatoes, and other various foods, for Thanksgiving feasts. Well, feast being a relative term. Most people thought what he cooked for Thanksgiving was enough to feed an average army, but over half was always consumed in the making. Needless to say, Ozzie prided himself on his cooking ability. When it came to baking, however....well, Ozzie sucked. Whenever he tried to bake cookies, they always got burnt on the bottom and never flattened out. With cupcakes, they were either too dry or always crumbled right away. (And don't even begin to ask Ozzie to ice something for you; besides giggling like a thirteen year old over the phrase "put icing on those", Ozzie 1) never lets anything cool and as a result it melts all over the place, and 2) does not have a decorative bone in his body). His cakes always sink in the middle and the brownies come out rock hard. Long story short, Ozzie could not bake to save his life. Thank god for people like Grace Holladay and, now, Addie. Ozzie surveyed the bountiful feast before him like a man just admitted to heaven.
“I just made way too much food. Clearly.” Ozzie chuckled. "Too much food". What a silly phrase. It shouldn't even exist when you knew Oswald freaking Wagers. There was no such thing. "Addie, dere's no way I'm lettin' any o'this go to waste." Ozzie rubbed his hands together, trying to decide what to eat next. What the hell, why not another cookie? God they were delicious. Could Addie and Grace open a bakery together? Ozzie could be the recipe taster. And if that didn't work out, he'd just become a taste tester for Ben and Jerry's. Yeah, that sounded good.
“You know, it’s a good thing I met you through Andie. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had anybody else to call over.” Ozzie nodded at this. Good thing indeed! This spread was calling his freaking name. "Oh yeah, any friend o' Andie's is a friend o' mine." Ozzie said, still paying more attention to the cupcake he had just devoured. It was true, what he had said. Ozzie got along with practically everyone, and Andie's little group hadn't been much of an exception yet. Though, there was that RJ guy he had yet to meet...and honestly, Ozzie had no interest in knowing him. It wasn't just the typical boyfriend complex either, but something deep inside gave Ozzie the chills and a sick feeling in his stomach whenever someone mentioned RJ. It was like he should have a reason to dislike him other than the fact that he was pretty sure Andie had liked him, but Ozzie didn't know what.
"How did you two meet, anyway?”
Oh, that story. Ozzie grinned, setting his second cupcake down. It was a great story, one he loved to tell. "Well, we technically met online in dis chat thing, but late dat night, I was sneakin' inta the kitchen ta make a sandwich. I was eaten when Andie snuck in to, and I made her a sandwich. Den we snuck back to my room and hung out for da rest of the night." Ozzie smiled, remembering that night. It was funny, how one small event could change your life so much. If Andie hadn't of shown up, Ozzie would probably still be taking no girl seriously, changing flings like most people change shirts.

Addison grinned at him, nodding. “Oh, good! That’s a relief.
” She seemed visibly pleased to not have to deal with all this food later on. He seemed to be favoring the sweets, didn’t he? She fought her instincts to insist he eat something proper and hold off on dessert, lest he spoil his appetite. The last thing she needed to do was hover over him like that. “Still, though, if you end up full and want to take anything home… let me know.” Addison was sure she’d have Tupperware for that, and she could trust Ozzie to return it. “ … Seriously.” Just in case he didn’t get what she was going to do with all this food. A friend of his, huh? Andie and her had just been passing notes during Study Hall today and Andie had said they were dating. Was there a lack of communication between them, or was Addison just getting impatient? She really needed to keep a lid on her curiosity. “ She’s a very nice girl, it’s easy to get along with her.” It had sort of surprised Addison that she’d ended up meeting Andie through a mutual friend. They got along well enough that you’d imagine they could have found each other. Still, mutual friends did make meeting new people that much easier. “ Have you met any of our other friends? Uhm… oh! You know, like RJ! Or Pickle, maybe?” Addison paused and gestured to the food before them, “ Pickle taught me pretty much everything I know.” … Wait, oops. Was it a good idea to mention RJ? Hadn’t Andie sort of… Addison shook that thought away, deciding now might not be the best time to think about it. Or… even mention it… Yeah, seriously, oops. Way to be subtle, Rowe. Focusing in on what Ozzie was saying, Addison nodded along to his story, enjoying the satisfying feeling of her questions being answered. Unfortunately, she wasn’t quite sure how she liked those answers. They’d met online? They’d snuck into the kitchen? She’d gone back to his room after curfew? Oh, this was just getting worse and worse, wasn’t it! Squirming in her seat, Addison forced a smile. “ Wow! That’s just… uh, heh. What timing, right?” Addison took a cookie for herself and took a big bite, feeling the sudden need to eat away her worries. She swallowed noisily and shrugged, “ I mean… like, if you hadn’t been online at the same time. Or if she’d just stayed in her dorm for the night. You know?” Shut up, Addison! Shut up! You’re crashing and burning! Subtle! Subtle, remember?! “ It sounds like you really like her, though.” That… that was what mattered, right? That he liked her and she liked him. As long as he wasn’t some psycho axe murderer… Oh God, why would she think that?! She shoved the rest of the cookie in her mouth to shut herself up before she said anything else stupid. This was going horribly. [/blockquote][/blockquote]
