distinctive traits She has a tattoo of a koi on her right shoulder, a gift of her father, sort of.
...personal*
personality She always seems a little distant, starring off into space and the like. Its hard to get close to someone who is always drifting in the clouds. She doesn't feel like she belongs around the average crowd seeing as her English is very poor and she grew up on a reservation. She tends to be reserved with strangers but strong in attitude. She doesn't let people make fun of her, oh no. She is more then happy to stick up for herself and things she believes in.
She spends her free time on the docks, at the aquarium, or at the 'beach' Because she feels the most comfortable around water. She only feels truly comfortable starring out to sea. Most people don't get this. She has a true affinity for sea creatures and is often seen with fish crowding the glass when she is near a tank of any kind. She doesn't understand it but she enjoys getting such a good view.
When it comes to friends, she is lacking. She isn't good at forming bonds with people her own age. She was picked on for being the only white girl on the reservation and she really didn't get to know anyone. So when she moved to live with her father, because of her mothers death, she took that trait. She is nervous of making new friends because of those experiences but if she does become your friend she is frank, curious, and polite. She isn't scared to tell her mind, and she loves people who like to talk because she enjoys listening. It helps her learn her english.
pastCoralie actually had a pretty well adjusted childhood for who she was. Her father had come to the reservation to gamble. Her mother had been young and foolish. He had been a pale man with blond hair and bright blue eyes. She had been a Cherokee. She had fallen in love, he had gotten far too drunk and had thought her pretty.
Well sure enough he left and returned to the big apple and her mother found herself pregnant. She did a lot of research and sent him a letter. Mridula waited but he never came. Instead he began sending monthly stiffens to keep them afloat. Honestly James couldn't Afford it but he did what he could to help her. He wasn't going to come back and marry the woman but that didn't mean he didn't want his child to have a good life.
So Maridula raised her daughter a bastard. She sent pictures to James over the years, but he never came to visit. As she grew it was clear Coralie was going to take her fathers qualities. Her blonde hair never darkened to black and she was eternally blue eyed. She had two things going against her, she was different, and she had no father.
She was picked on by the other kids but she lived a full life. She learned to rely on herself from a very young age. But they were happy, and Coralie didn't mind her father being absent. If he didn't care neither did she. However she had always been curious and in time she wondered. She asked her mother about him, however Mridula told her daughter little, saying it was better if she just left well enough alone.
So Coral grew up. She went to school by busing in and out of the city. She lived happily until she turned fifteen. Her mother caught viral meningitis. How was she supposed to know what would happen? He mother had flu like symptoms the day before and stayed home from work, then the next day she was gone. The coroner asked for her next of kin and she gave her fathers name. Her grand parents had never accepted her because she was a bastard child. So they located him. Her world was ripped up so fast she had no clue how to cope. She kept telling herself if only she had thought to get her mom to the hospital. Still even the doctors said people with Viral Meningitis rarely lived, and even if they did usually they lost most brain function. Coral convinced herself, the best she could, there was nothing she could do and after saying goodbye, left. She didn't attend the funeral.
She was moved from Tennessee to New York City in no time. It was a shock coming to the city. It was nerve wracking because she had never been good at English. Her school had specialized in kids from the reservation and taught English but didn't expect them to speak it outside of that. Her father had picked her up from the airport three days after her mothers death and they took a silent ride home.
Communication was hard, Coral was bitter, and James was set in his ways. She had gone from having no father, to having one who had never wanted a kid. Still he did his best. He was a businessman and got by. He turned his office into her bedroom and let her pick out the furniture. He tried bonding but soon found his daughter wanted a father about as much as he wanted a daughter. So they quickly found common ground there and moved on to living together and dealing with the other when necessary.
James even went so far as to buy her a salt water aquarium for her sixteenth birthday. Ya it had been expensive but it was the first time they had really talked more then a few words since she moved in. It had only been a few months but she was starting to get used to the routine of the city. If she kept her head down no one asked the blonde girl where she was from. She spoke with an accent and, once again, she was picked on because she wasn't the best at English. She was learning though, and trying hard to fit in. Still just like back on the reservation she found herself alone.
She had very few friends, so she went almost everywhere alone. She found she did love her father, though she refused to call him that because he had ignored her existence for 15 years besides the child support checks, still he had stepped up when problems happened, she wouldn't want a kid screwing up her life either. Still her mom had worked hard to keep herself afloat and though she sympathized with him she couldn't help but partly blame him, as well as herself, for the death of her mother.
present
Coral is sixteen and living with her father. She goes to school just like every girl and they get by, still hardly talking. She is awkward in social situations making finding new friends hard and though she has been there several months now, most people don't know who she is. They might recognize her from the halls but she is one of those nameless wall flower. That isn't to say she is dumb and blonde though. No the girl is an A and B sort of student, not the best but defiantly above the curve. Once she gets past the language barrier it might rise more but she is happy where she is at. She sits at the front and to the side of the classroom and arrives early and leaves on time.
The lack of friends drives her out of the halls on her off hour because no one but chatting friends stand around in halls. It looks far more pathetic if your standing alone in the halls then if your just early to class. So she takes that option. She participates in a few clubs but not anything that requires much talking from her. She stands up for herself, but not many people notice her enough her to pick on her.
Then again this is preferable to the girl. When she leaves home she is always found along some body of water. She can't help it, really. Its like there is some long off call she can't quite here that beckons her closer. Lakes don't help nearly as much as the ocean but water in and of itself is soothing. So she wanders the docks, she wanders the parks that neighbor the waterfront. Anywhere she can get to without an adult. She rarely travels with her father but she has a metro pass and doesn't need him.
She makes her money by doing model shoots on the weekend. They like her exotic spirit and she can get at least a short cheep gig most weekends if she needs cash. So she lives well enough with her father. He doesn't pay for much for her and she helps out when she can with what money she gets. He doesn't live that well, just a small two bedroom apartment with cable and Internet. She has a tv and computer in her room but not too much more. They make enough to enjoy themselves, but not often together. So they live like room mates, the father who never wanted a kid, and the daughter who never wanted a father. They get along well enough they just don't kid themselves with false hope about their situation. They know what they are and they take it at face value.
family Mother- Maridula (dead)
Father- James Atlas
likes The ocean, fish, kind people, calm music such as Jack Johnson, laying and staring at clouds.
dislikes pollution, people who tease her for her poor English, a lack of understanding for her culture, people who pick on those weaker then them
other notes She would rather be swimming in the ocean then in a pool and would rather be fighting for a cause then ignoring it.
