Okay. So...here is my nanowrimo idea. It makes absolutely no sense.
So Cinderella is actually Elaina. Elaina is shallow and although she always thinks she has good intentions, she is focused on herself. She's beautiful and thinks everyone should love her for it.
Elaina's mother practices witchcraft and is absolutely hated by everyone in the town. I haven't decided if she was actually evil or not. But either way, she gets hung when Elaina is only nine. One year later, her father remarries to a woman with two daughters. One is Anne...and the other one, I haven't named yet, but I've been thinking of Delia.
Soon after Elaina's father marries this woman, he dies. Elaina becomes fixated on blaming her stepmother for this, even though she had nothing to do with it.
Basically, the most important element of the story is that Anne and the prince fall in love. The prince promises her that they're going to get married, and they have a really wonderful relationship.
Delia also wants the prince, but only for his money, and she's worried that Elaina might get in the way. I haven't really decided how this works out, but when she finds out that Anne has been seeing him, she flips out. On the night of the ball, she locks them both in their rooms.
Elaina has this best friend named James. James is absolutely infatuated with Elaina, and she knows it, but doesn't return his feelings. She usually uses him to get what she wants, just because she knows she can. When she wants to go to the ball, she has James figure out a way to get her there, and then at the end of the story, she breaks his heart. I haven't figured out how James gets her there though. I thought he might have learned witchcraft from her mother? Or maybe it's not even magic related....
ANYWAAAAAY...Elaina gets to the ball. She tries to get the prince, but he just keeps looking for Anne.
And then this is the part where it starts sounding like a really really weird chick lit. Or a really good OUAC plot. xD
The prince gets drunk. He and Elaina end up having sex. Elaina accidentally leaves something at the ball...I haven't decided if it's going to be a shoe or not. When she comes home from the ball, she is convinced that the prince is hopelessly in love with her.
Elaina ends up being pregnant...and I have to find some way that Delia would know this and Elaina wouldn't...which is a major plot hole which means this whole thing wouldn't work, but whatever. xD
Delia has decided by this point, that she'd rather see her sister Anne suffer than have the prince's money. So she tells the prince that Elaina is pregnant, and tells him that he better marry her or everyone is going to think hes a scumbag and he'll ruin the reputation of the royal family. He barely even remembers Elaina, so he uses whatever she left at the ball to track her down. Then he asks her to marry him, even though he doesn't want to. Anne approaches him and of course, she's friggin pissed off. He acts cruelly to her only because he wants her to forget about him because he doesn't want to hurt her. Elaina and prince get married. Anne is depressed as hell. I don't know what happens to Delia. James is like "WTF"
Oh, and something should happen with the stepmother and the whole "murder of the father" thing.
And they all lived happily ever after.
