...personal*
personality Emily is cold, there really is no other word for her. She is aloof, distant, and analytical to the point it pushes people away. This suits her fine, as she finds most company to be quite repellent. She is a cynic, who believes romantic love to be a myth made for story books and entertainment. She expects the worse out of the world, and only finds happiness when she is dancing.
Emily is a neat freak, hating the squalor in which she was raised. She is reliable, and fulfills her duties to those she makes promises to mostly without complaint. She can be charming when the situation calls for it, and (if you get her talking) can display dark humor and dry wit. She is beautiful, but vain. Small imperfections such as acne or weight gain weigh heavily on her mind. Emily hold money to great value, and believes all humans to be innately selfish creatures.
past Emily was born from love, the daughter of Carl Shay (a factory worker) and Enid Harris (a retired Ballerina). The little family was happy, though Emily has no memory of this. Her parents died in a car accident when she was three years old. Emily's Father had no remaining family and so she was sent to live with her Maternal Grandmother, Delilah Harris.
Delilah Harris is a woman of fragile mind, who was divorced four times, and quite bitter to the world. She was against her daughters marriage, finding Carl to be beneath her daughter (the Harris's had once been a prominent family; though Delilah's Marriages, dwindling fortune, and decaying Hampton home made this no longer apply to anyone but Delilah herself). The recluse woman was emotionally and (when she had the strength) physically abusive to her Grand Daughter. The only time affection was shown to young Emily was when she preformed well in Ballet.
She was a lonely little girl. Her Grandmother told her of all the evils of the world, and that people only wished to use you. While she was frightened of her Grandmother, one of the few experiences with her peers seemed to prove correct. Because of her Grandmother's madness, the neighborhood children called her the Harris Witch, and so they called Emily the 'Little Witch' among other things. Eventually she gave up trying to make friends, and by the time she got to Frank L. Baum Academy her loner mentality was deeply ingrained.
present Though she was not outwardly excited about school, she adored the freedom it provided. She loathes the summers and waits for her 18th Birthday (June 1st) when she can finally move out of the horrid Harris House.
She is a good student, and her teachers find her intelligent and intrusiveness, though they do show concern that she has no friends. After classes she goes immediately to Dans dans la Paix, where she T.A.'s for the younger classes (ages 4-6) as payment for her lessons (which she can not otherwise afford). She then returns to the dorms, writes a letter to her Grandmother, takes a shower, and goes to bed. On the weekends she practices dancing where she can and window shops at the mall.
Besides dancing Emily enjoys literature, classical music (especially the violin), the museum, ice skating, and children (though she does not know why). She dislikes animals immensely because they are dirty creatures, her least favorite being cats (her Grandmother owns an obscene amount of them).
family Carl and Enid Shay

Still she forced herself to stay awake to hear the great catastrophe that prompted this visit at such an ungodly hour. "Me...Sirius...kissing!"
"You kissed Sirius?" Her voice was a mixture of vague sleepiness, gouchy annoyance, and interest despite herself. Finally, River had seemed to take the plunge. "Well it's about bloody time. You've been Harboring a crush on young Master Black since you hit puberty." She laid back down, not quiet seeing the great urgency. Still all the same, had River waited to tell Freddie until morning the younger best friend would have been put out for finding out so late."So, whats wrong then? Is he a bad kisser or something?"
Since coming to this school she had watched River Fairfax's strange friendship with the debonair Mr. Black. Every girl he dated, River found flaw with. Every horrible joke he told, she laughed at as if it were grade A comedy. Every Quidditch game one, it was Sirius who River rushed to hug in the excitement of the crowd. Freddie had seen this coming a mile a way. But as she sank into her comfy bed, beneath her mountain of blankets, she thought bitterly an how she and River would need to discuss the definition of Emergency.
