...appearance*
hair color Gabby likes to compare her hair to sunshine. She adores her hair; golden, silky, and cooperative. If she feels the need to curl it, it curls. She’s known girls’ whose hair falls flat and Gabby is glad that hers is quite the opposite. Gabby can spend quite a lot of time doing her hair but she doesn’t mind when it’s just tied up.
eye color Gabby’s eyes are a range of blue. Most days, it’s a softer blue but this is subject to change depending on the light or her mood (says she).
build Gabby is a very tiny girl: small hands, feet, wrists, waist. She’s got this very frail look about her but she’s quite healthy for her age.
height Five foot three (5’3”). Gabby is sometimes unhappy with her short stature but she doesn’t mind it in general.
clothing style Gabby absolutely loves dresses: cute summer dresses with spaghetti straps that are fun to twirl in. During the colder seasons, she’ll wear clothes that are comfortable and trendy: skinny jeans, flowy tops, flats.
distinctive traits Gabby is unique in how she moves. She’s very graceful, always on the tips of her feet. The grin rarely leaves her lips and she is always wearing headphones whether they are in her ears or just hanging around her neck.
...personal*
personality
polite & friendly ;;
Gabrielle believes in the saying ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ Along with this, she heartily agrees with ‘if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.’ Basically, Gabrielle is friendly, treating even the rudest of people with kindess, and polite, respecting her elders and teachers. She thinks, knows, that it is best to treat others as you yourself would want to be treated. As Gabrielle quite likes being, well, liked, she is the sweetest girl to people she’s just meeting. If a person is harsh upon meeting her, Gabrielle simply assumes they’re having an off day and, when (and if) seeing them again, a second chance is given. Gabrielle is very apologetic; in fact, she’ll say sorry if somebody purposely runs into her.
confident & optimistic ;;
Gabrielle will burst into song and dance if she wants too. Gabrielle doesn’t care for what others think. She’s very sure of herself and quite independent (though her Aunts think otherwise). People care about people who care about themselves. Gabrielle feels that she can’t be appreciated and loved unless she feels that way about herself. Confidence is key to everything and so she works hard to keep her self-esteem as high as it can be. The glass is always half-full; in fact, Gabrielle has been known to thinking the glass is completely full. There is just about no pessimism to this girl. Perhaps it’s the constant music she’s listening to or the pride she feels for her person, Gabrielle just finds that she has no reason to be unhappy.
adventurous & curious ;;
“The present is just that: a gift. Live each day to its fullest; you never know what tomorrow will bring.” Gabrielle is known for saying this when somebody questions the crazy goals on her Bucket List. She isn’t afraid of many things (blood and sharp objects are another story completely), but diving out of a plane? Yes, please! If one looks for reason behind her (apparently) frightening antics, they’d learn she’s quite curious. Gabrielle has been told on numerous occasions: “Curiosity killed the cat, you know.” to which she will happily reply: “I’m not a cat though, am I?” The smallest things, though, can distract her and, though frustrating to others, Gabrielle is oblivious to it as she’s already investigating whatever has snatched her attention away.
past
Growing up in Half Moon Bay, California made Gabrielle a rather sheltered girl. A tiny town on the coast, everybody knew everybody else. There were no secrets. Getting married? Hope you have room for everybody. Gabrielle loved (and hated) this. On one hand, being so close to your neighbors and school mates was nice. Knowing everybody meant that if anything went wrong, parents would know immediately. Gabrielle didn’t really like this; just because some girl took a pair of scissors to Gabrielle’s hair didn’t mean the families had to get involved. Gabrielle lived with her three Aunts in Half Moon Bay. Why were they still around and her mother not? Gabrielle’s never met her mother and father nor has she heard any stories of them. Any questions were quickly deflected and forgotten due to a trip for ice cream or pizza.
The spring after her tenth birthday, the four moved to New York City. Gabrielle went from cozy seaside to busy city life. It was all strange and Gabrielle, for perhaps the first time in her life, was a bit of a pessimist. How could she survive here, in this world so different from the one she knew and loved? It was the same question she’d ask Ariel while watching The Little Mermaid. “Sixteen years of underwater life; how did you make such an easy transition?” A year, two tops, and Gabrielle had grown accustomed to New York. Sure, it was rainy and loud BUT it was New York! It was full of opportunities, it was the Big Apple, the city that never slept! Learning to appreciate her new home had taken awhile but once she’d become used to it, everything was easier.
High school was vicious. Instead of knowing everybody, Gabrielle only knew her classmates and even they were unfriendly. The city that never slept evidently lead to the city of grumpy high schoolers. Making friends turned out to be easy enough, though. She just needed to find the right people. Gabrielle took up a job at Wynken & Nod’s, an old mattress store. It’s convenient, at least, having perfect chances to take a nice nap. Then, she somehow managed to become a waitress at The Wandering Goose which was tough. Knives were a constant worry, after all. Her whole life, Gabrielle has had a fear of sharp objects (aichmophobia) and of blood (hematophobia). She isn’t quite sure why; it’s not like her past has been riddled with traumatic experiences.
present
Gabrielle, now a sophomore at Baum Academy, is quite happy with the way her life is going. School is nearly out for the summer and she is looking forward to this quite a bit. It means more time to sing, wander around Broadway, earn money, and spend time with her friends and family. Gabrielle is still working at the mattress store and the restaurant and is excited to have money. This means that she can pay for her “apparently frightening antics” all on her own. Asking her Aunts for money would most likely lead to a heart attack. If they knew what she was up to, they’d take her out of school and that would be that.
Gabrielle is still as sleepy and fearful as ever. Well, fearful of those two phobias, anyway. Along with these irrational terrors, Gabrielle is always tired. She sleeps in, falls asleep in class, goes to bed early, can rarely make it through a movie, and coffee does nothing to help. She’s talked to her Aunts about this and, go figure, they have no answers. Gabrielle jokes sometimes, saying “I’m quite like Sleeping Beauty, aren’t I? Always singing and sleeping.” She’s perfectly okay with this comparison; the princess has always been her favorite, anyway.
