...personal*
personality First and foremost, Rachel is organized, neat, practical, and anti-social. Her dorm at J Berry was and always will be clean and in tip-top shape. Messes hurt her eyes and she absolutely hates them. Disorganized people irritate her. She’s stubborn about herself, and she doesn’t like changes. For example, when she moved. Changes just irritate her more than ever. She isn’t liked that much because of her lack of social skills, and that’s just the way it is. She likes to be busy and her no-nonsense, sensible self won’t except a “boring” day. These traits trigger hard work. Although she’s not brilliant, her hard work brings her far.
Prior to her stubbornness, Rachel is usually sweet and cheerful. She likes looking at the bright side, and when there is no bright side to look at, she creates one. This may make her a bit vulnerable, but Rachel can be crisp and sharp to those who she has no taste for. Grumpiness and negative words won’t be accepted by all means. Her experience with gardening has roughened up her edges, so don’t think she’s all frail and small. It’s not as simple as that.
Mooning over pictures? Rachel’s so over that… maybe. Love is a touchy subject with her. Nothing romantic ever happened to her. She’s never been kissed by a boy. Not even by her father. Her heart seems as hard as a rock but really it’s more than that. When she’s hanging out with her girlfriends she’ll mentally slap herself when she says hi to a guy. Lately she’s been avoiding the subject, but really she needs to pour her heart out to somebody. She’s so distant about her thoughts that nobody ever knows what’s going on in that head of hers.
past Rachel was born on May 23, 1994 in Tennessee. She had a low-key childhood, although her father died a year after she was born. She never really knew him. She was an only child, so it was easier for her mother to keep the house stable. However, when Rachel turned five, her mother married a farmer who lived close by. Soon they moved in the farm and Rachel warmly accepted her new father although she was young. Anyhow, the gardening and harvesting shaped up her muscles nicely. Her only problem was, of course, friends. She never had a friend during the time, not one. After all she lived on a farm and was homeschooled.
Rachel turned out to be a hard working person, but the farm had some negative to it qualities, too. For one thing, she had become more accustomed to staying inside the box. She hated anything outside the lines, anything unusual. She grew used to uniqueness, but as a child Rachel wasn’t very imaginative. This didn’t come as much a problem, because she lived with her mother and father and they were her only company.
When Rae turned 11 her family decided the farm wasn’t doing any good. They moved to Maryland, where her parents encouraged her to go to the public middle school. It was a pretty horrible experience for her. Nobody liked her in the beginning and called her the “new girl,” commenting on Rachel’s distinctive Tennessee accent. She learned to speak like all the other kids, but there always was and is a small hint of Tennessee in her voice. Any who, soon the kids finally stopped picking on her and she became one of the kids at school, not the new kid from Tennessee. She made friends, although their relationship didn’t usually last.
During the summer before her Sophomore year, Rachel got a letter from Baum saying she was eligible to enter the boarding school. At first she was completely against it, but her mother said it would be a “fun, adventurous experience! Come on, Rache, it’s time for a change.” She hesitantly agreed and entered Baum. It wasn’t the best, nor the worst. She felt like it was better than a public school, though. She made more friends there and had a better time in class.
present Now Rae is in the middle of her second year at Baum. Her life had gotten a smidge better, and she has grown into a cheerful, hard-working teen. She has a more social life, and she can talk on and on now she has friends to talk to. She takes things for granted and has become a better person in general, although her slight obsession over organization and neatness has grown a bit during the years.
New York has affected her in many ways. Rachel misses Tennessee and her mom and dad, but Baum is a new adventure to her and everything seems more vivid. She’s started to enjoy life and hasn’t been doing homework and earning money all day like she used to. Instead she visits Broadway, or goes to a restaurant or something. It’s quite fun for Rae, and it’s a nice change (although you know how she usually doesn’t like changes).
