[glow=red,2,300] What will they say when I've gone away?[/glow] Benson had always liked the evenings. So that was why in his balmy summer evening he was lounged out under a tree. Beside him lay a tiny German short hair pointer in ticked blue and brown coat. He couldn’t be more than four months and he chewed happily on a plastic bone. He reeled his arm back and let fly the chuck it (a handle that allowed him to throw a ball farther) and like a shot a sleek red and white form went screaming off after it. She was little too, a wisp of leg and sleek fur at eleven months. She was starting to grow into some adult features but mostly she still looked a gangly puppy. It was clear he had come basically straight from work. His nice gray pants were held up with a brown leather belt that matched his brown leather shoes. His suit jacket had been discarded but he still wore a half buttoned white shirt, with a black tee-shirt underneath. His tie had been left home when he got the dogs but he certainly did look the site sitting there with his back to a tree playing with dogs. The stern man and the pair of puppies looked happy enough though. He ran his fingers through his rather messy brown hair and sighed glancing about the park with an absent look. Mentally he was running through spending reports and leaping through staffing issues. His work never ended but this was the life he had wanted and chosen. So he enjoyed the mental stimulation. He reached over to stroke the tiny puppy beside him pleased in his choice of dogs. He needed animals that were active to keep him moving, there was very little good in a lazy dog in his opinion. He gave a sharp whistle and the setter turned on her dainty heel and came screaming back only to sit before him and drop the ball. He reached out with his chuck it and picked it up nodding pleasantly. “Good girl Delilah. Ready.” He flicked his wrist and the ball soared off, and off went Delilah like a wild blur her long tail dancing happily. He didn’t get out enough and he knew it as he sorted through how many new employees they would need for the most recent development project R and D had created. He sighed and flicked the floppy ears of the little pup. “Hunter.” He mused lightly looking to the pup with a stern expression. The little pups head lifted and those soulful brown eyes lit up. He wagged his nub of a tail and jumped to all four paws, however the bone was just too big and the way he had been holding it too awkward. So he caught one large paw on it and face planted with a oof of puppy clumsiness. Benson smiled at the sight and shook his head. “Never mind.” He said and returned to rubbing the pup with an absent minded smirk. Ten employees, he decided and let his mind away from work for a moment to watch Delilah bounding back towards him the ball protruding wildly from one side of her mouth. “Good girl” he called out. Gotta find a brand new hero

Well, it had started out as a nice run in the park like usual, but something had caught Bennet's eye, and he started running faster. Emmaline could only sprint so fast, and so Bennet had managed to pull the leash from her hand.
It was a ball. There was a guy playing fetch with his dogs, and Bennet wanted to join in. The behemouth puppy was now running in his big, gangly, lumbering, yet incredibly quick way toward the man with the ball, who had clearly just come from the office.
Emmaline was horrified, and she froze for a second before she took off like a racehorse from a starting gate, sprinting to catch up with her dog before he caused trouble or jumped on the man. Bennet was usually so well behaved, but he just couldn't help himself today apparently. Emma shouted as she ran, "No, Bennet! No!" Of course, by the time she had gotten to him, Bennet was standing quietly next to the man, watching him, as if waiting for him to throw a ball for him, and Emma was pretty much incapabable of stopping. Dang momentum. She was able to stop, of course, just not in the conventional way.
She ran straight into the man, "Oh! Bloody- I'm so sorry!" She picked herself up off of the grass and turned to help the man she had most likely sent to the ground. In his suit. His nice suit. She also set to work pulling off the pieces of grass off of her running skirt and tank top. It really was embarrassing, "I'm really, incredibly sorry. He usually isn't like that... I don't know what got into him." She reached to grab Bennet's collar, and he looked up at her with a big dopey, doggy 'grin'. "Yeah, yeah... You're lucky you're cute." She rolled her eyes at the puppy, then looked over at the man, "I'll pay for your suit cleaning... I promise."

Benson saw the dog nearly as soon as he pulled free. With deft skill he stood up and squared off with him ready to catch him on his way by. He knew the pains of losing an animal in the park. He blinked bewildered as the dog came charging towards him however. Then he noticed Delilah, her attention fixedly on him and the ball, had dropped it at his feet. He sighed realizeing what had happened. With a flick of his hand the chuck it grabbed the ball and he held it up and waited. Delilah sat before he said anything her little brown ears perked and her tail wagging madly. There was nothing but the ball in her world. Hunter, however, snapped to attention and clambered to his paws. With a howl, a tiny squeak really, of excitement he went bounding up to meet the big dog. Three steps into his run however the size of the giant puppy seemed to hit him. Tiny paws skittered and what little tail he had tucked between his awkward legs. With a yip hunter turned and shot back to Benson and behind him. His little chocolate head poked out and he stared wide eyed at the dog who stood far bigger then him or Delilah. Delilah however didn't bother taking notice till Bennett almost stepped on her. She gave a yip of surprise but, instead of fleeing, looked up almost offended. Blinking she dodged under his legs and out the other side to sniff at him her tail wagging madly. Benson watched the dog screech to a stop and he reached out and rubbed his head. “Well hello there big guy. You really shouldn't wander off or your owner will-” What ever might have been said after that was lost in a sharp grunt of surprise as he quite literally caught Emmaline and was thrown from his feet. He hit the ground hard and winced in pain at the impact. Before he could really comprehend what was going on he was hauled, rather unceremoniously to his feet. Cautiously Benson assessed the situation. He was covered in grass stains. He frowned and furrowed his brow staring at the woman a moment. She was pretty enough but clearly lost in a cloud. “No, no I should have known I should be watching out for the owner as well as the dog.” He said shortly and dusted his pants shaking his head. Hunter came skittering back over and forced his way between his legs making him almost fall over again. His look of exasperation was almost complete at this point as he steadied himself once more. “I can afford the suit cleaning. Don't worry about that.” He tested his arms and legs and frowned as he noticed a hole had been torn in his right elbow. “Great. Just great.” he shook his head clearly not pleased with the situation. Delilah had quite the opposite reaction as her master. She instantly bounded up to Emmaline her tail thrashing wildly and her little tongue lolling. Her big brown eyes stared up as she tried to be noticed beside the great black horse of a dog. Deciding it was a lost cause she jumped up and placed her paws on the woman's chest giving a sharp bark. “Delilah OFF.” He snapped and Delilah sat down as if struck grinning up at Emmaline, “That is not her common behavior. Pardon her.” He frowned at both. This was turning out to be far less relaxing then he wanted it to be. At this point he would be lucky to save the pants, the shirt was gone. This had been one of his favorite suits and this woman, in about ten seconds flat, had turned it from a fine piece of clothing to trash. He was not amused.

Emmaline was really sorry. She looked up from Bennet, and then realized what a mess his suit was. His shirt was torn too. Fantastic. "God... I'm so sorry! I'll pay for a new shirt. Really, it was my fault....." She looked over at Bennet as he pulled on the leash a little, lifting his paws up awkwardly one at a time as he tried to figure out what the other dogs were doing. He perked his ears and looked underneath himself as one dog walked underneath him. Bennet was also clearly confused as to what the other dogs were. They were so small compared to him.
After he had figured out that they were just incredibly small, he sat down and looked up at Gavin, waiting for the ball, perking his ears and making the 'please can I have the ball' face.
Emmaline took the gap to aplogize again, "I really should have watched where I was going... I'm really, really, sorry... I haven't the foggiest idea what came over me that I didn't watch where I was going. I guess I just really didn't want Bennet running into anyone, but then irony of ironies, I run into someone."
She bent to adjust Bennet's collar, and he stood up, sniffing her to see if she had the ball. She then looked at the dog who had jumped up to get attention. Emma scratched her behind the ear with a little smile, "No, no.... It's alright. At least she isn't running off."
With a smile, Emma stood up again, "So, uhm... Do you have something I could write my information on? Really, I insist on paying for the damages to the suit... Or if you just have a business card, I can get in touch with you that way..?" Then she suddenly realized that she didn't even know the man's name, nor did he know hers, "Oh! I'm so sorry... I'm Emmaline Austin." With that, she tentatively held out her hand to shake his.

Benson frowned at her constant string of apologies. Did this woman ever shut up? He glanced her over again then slowly blew out his breath. He let the stress go, it could kill a man after all and he intended to live a good long time. He glanced to both his dogs again and quickly grabbed up their leashes. He Snapped one to Hunters collar and stepped to the side so the puppy wasn't nestled between his legs. “Well. Good puppy training isn't cheep. They train against running off.” He said “Honestly I see you didn't mean it. You're just a bit clumsy.” He tucked the chuck it under his arm and contemplated what the hell to do now. He would have to go home and change. No cafe dinner in his future. He glanced to the woman frowning again. “Look you can quit apologizing. I do understand. I see it was an accident.” He dusted his shirt off glowering at the hole as if that might solve the problem. When she introduced herself he stared at her hand a moment as if considering it. He glanced up to her and then reached out and shook it quickly. He withdrew his hand as quick as he could and pulled out his wallet. “Gavin Benson. Call me Benson. The red and white is Delilah and the puppy is Hunter.” He gestured absentmindedly to both while he dug through a few flaps of his wallet then produced a single business card. In large, embossed, golden letters was written SNAP.COM along with his name, his title which happened to be CEO, and two phone numbers, work and cell. He held it out to her rather abruptly. Here you are. My information. Use the cell number. You are more likely to reach me.” He said sharply. “I assure you it really isn't needed though.” He added again, he wanted an out and he was going to find it. He hated social situations and this was making him feel more and more anxious by the moment. Honestly he didn't know why he was still standing here. More then anything he really just wanted to head home and change. When she took the card he hooked Delilah back onto her leash and nodded. “Well we should be going then. If everything is settled here.” Delilah tugged at the leash trying to get back over to Emmaline her tail still wagging happily.

Good puppy training wasn't cheap. Yeah, she knew that. It was why she was incredibly lucky that Bennet was so easy to train- the trainer used him as her example a lot and so her rate was lower. Otherwise Emmaline would have to live off of ramen. At least now she could afford to eat some vegetables. Occasionally she can get some good steak or chicken for cheap. Emma smiled a little and nodded, "Yeah, you're telling me."
She then bit her lip as he called her clumsy. She didn't want to get mad at him- she had knocked him over after all. She couldn't really argue that she wasn't clumsy after an event like that. "Are you sure? Really, I am-" She cut herself off then, not wanting to frustrate the man further by apologizing again. So instead, she just nodded her compliance.
She gave a small smile as he shook her hand, "Oh, uhm... It's nice to meet you. This is Bennet." She motioned to him and he sat down again, looking up at Benson with perked ears. She dropped her hand down then as he pulled his away and reached for his wallet. She scratched the top of Bennet's head a little as she waited.
She took the business card and her eyes widened ever so slightly as she read the business. He was the CEO of Snap.com? She had just knocked an incredibly rich man to the ground. Well that was just fantastic. She composed herself quickly and nodded, "Perfect, I'll... Be in touch. I really insist." Okay, so it wasn't like he couldn't afford to replace the suit himself, but it was the principle of the thing.
Emmaline nodded a little, "Oh, uhm... Yeah... I should probably get back to my run." She looked down at Bennet, "C'mon Bennet, let's go." She then turned to start running again, and she winced, pulling her foot up at a sudden sharp pain, and actually falling back on the grass, "Ooh, OUCH!" She held her foot up off the ground, telling Bennet to lay down, which he did quickly. "Well, I guess my run is out." She winced a little as she experimentally put her foot down, aggravating her most likely sprained ankle. 'Perhaps I actually AM clumsy.'

Benson was preparing to round up his animals and leave when the woman fell back to the ground clutching her ankle. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. This was going to be a long evening. He stepped over, careful to avoid all the dogs. He crouched down beside her not quite sure what to do. This was not a situation he was really comfortable with. Here he was, in a park with a woman he had just met and now the situation seemed inescapable.
“Are you alright?” He managed with a look of something nervous concern. He almost looked a little pained. “Look where do you live I'll help you get home...” He said with some obvious tension. If the girl had hurt himself he would probably die. He wasn't heartless after all. He took a deep breath calming his internal strife and grabbed the leashes of all three dogs. “I hope your brute of a dog is good on a leash.” He muttered.
With out any warning he slung his arm under her shoulders and one under her knees and picked her up. He grunted slightly under her weight and then straightened with a little huff. Shaking his head he started off towards his apartment trailing the dogs. “I live across the street. Lets get it iced before it swells. No arguing.” he said firmly as if that settled everything.
He took brisk strides towards the street ignoring the strange looks the world seemed to be giving them. Then again it wasn't every day you saw a man in a grass stained business suit, carrying a woman, and toeing three very differently sized puppies with a chuck it shoved in an armpit. Really the site was almost quite comical seeing as Benson was anything near humorous about it. He was stern faced and flustered.
He hated feeling out of control and that was exactly where he was at. So he was striving for control and he intended to keep this girl from stiring up trouble. People in the park stared and as it was they were drawing more attention then the introvert liked. So he took a blow to his pride and was going to fix this now before it got any more out of hand. “Come on you lot.”

Well this day just kept getting better and better. And even better. She had nearly lost her dog, knocked over a very powerful man, ruined his suit, and then to top it all off, sprained her ankle.
She looked up at Benson as he looked concerned and asked if she was alright, "Oh, uhm... Yeah... I think I'm alright. I only live about two blocks from here... Really, Bennet can help me get home...." Of course, he didn't seem to accept that answer, and he took Bennet's leash as well as the leashes of his two dogs, mumbling something about her 'brute of a dog' being good on a leash. The response to which was pouting on her part, "Hey, he's not a brute... and he is good on a leash."
She was then surprised when he didn't help her to her feet, but he actually picked her up. She yelped a little in surprise, but she didn't fight him for fear she might get dropped or something. She did argue though, "Really, I'm alright. You don't have to carry me.... I can make it back to my apartment... Really, I'm fine."
She sighed then when he seemed to ignore that and said that he lived across the street and that they would get her ankle iced before it swelled. It sounded very final. Of course he lived aross the street. He had to have property that over-looked Central Park. All the rich people seemed to have that property.
She bit her lip as Benson spoke to the dogs, and thankfully, Bennet was more than happy to acquiesce to the request made of him, and he walked quite contentedly along next to the man carrying his owner. Meanwhile, Emmaline had decided to argue quietly and softly with the man, "Really, this isnt necessary... I can get back to my apartment on my own. Bennet really can help me get back. I really don't think my ankle needs icing. It will be fine..." Of course, she only had so many arguments in her arsenal, and so she quickly ran out. When that happened, she was quiet again and just bit her lip, trying to figure out what to do.

Benson scoffed and frowned deeper at her protesting. He took it with quiet dignity for now and crossed the street as soon as he was able. Still all eyes followed them and he picked up his pace. Darn it. Well this was just fantastic. His back was beginning to hurt and she was less then grateful he was offering to help keep her ankle from getting worse. If a sprain was major enough she would have to get it checked at a hospital and he wasn't about to be told he didn't help out in that situation. He just left the woman there. His coworkers would call him mad, as usual, for letting a pretty girl go unhelped. Why were people always so nosy! He frowned again having become lost in his own thoughts and shook his head. “Look just let me help you then you can go on home ok? I'm just making sure your not going to have to be off it for weeks.” He glanced to the dogs and almost smiled despite himself as they were all walking pleasantly, hunter trying not to get stepped on, on his right side. Well the woman had done a good job with the mutt after all. “Well he is big enough I think he is one. Big dogs just take too much time to control.” he said bluntly and left the conversation at that. When he hit his apartment complex the doorman blinked in shock and fumbled with the door. “Mr. Benson is there anything I can do to help you.” Benson just shook his head. “I have it under control. Thank you Chris.” He strode past tugging the three dogs and carrying Emmaline with a graceful ease and dignity. He still scowled. His back was killing him. He stopped at the elevator and gently put her down so he could press the button. “Try stepping on it for me and slowly. Stop when it hurts.” He almost commanded. He was used to people doing what he said when he said it. It was a bad trait and one composed mostly on his pride. When the elevator dinged he slung her arm around his shoulder with a sigh. “Come on. Just get in I'll ice it, wrap it and you can go home.” He drug her in, and managed to corral the dogs long enough to hit the top floor button. Hunter wrapped himself around Benson's legs, and Delilah followed sniffing and he just about toppled again. With a deep breath he closed his eyes “SIT” he said firmly and both his pups butts hit the ground, he opened his eyes and looked to Bennett to see if the great dane had followed suit. “Pardon me.” He unhooked his arm gingerly from Emmaline, proceeding to ignore her, while he untangled his legs from all the leashes and stepped free to lean on the back wall. This was all going to kill him, he just knew it. Stress was the leading cause of heart attacks, he would die before thirty. He glanced over at the woman realizing he must seem horridly rude and fumbled a moment for something to say. "So I find I know absolutely nothing about you and I am taking you into my home. What is it you do Mrs. Austin?" He looked away looking a little pained and very much uncomfortable. Why was it he couldn't compose himself around strangers. This was far too far outside of his normal life and he was panicking a bit. he should have just let her go home. This would have been so much simpler. He glanced over looking strained then back to the dogs. For once he rued the choice of the top level apartment.

Emmaline bit her lip as she looked over at Bennet. Thankfully, he was walking nicely, any trace of the excited 'I want to run' attitude having been used up and now was completely non-existent. All that was left was the usual, remarkably well behave Great Dane puppy. She then looked up at Benson as he spoke, again saying that Bennet was big enough to be a brute. Still, his tone sounded final, so she decided not to argue. She nodded a little, "Alright.... Thanks for your help..."
She blinked a little as the doorman of his apartment building asked if he needed any help. Wait. Doorman? Emmaline wasn't used to that. But then again, she wasn't incredibly rich and staying in a high class apartment building. She bit her lip and shook her head a bit when Benson turned down the help, then she smiled a little as Benson thanked the doorman, Chris. She would have thanked him too, but Benson had carried her past before she could. Bennet paused to sniff the man and then wag his tail, but that was the longest he was given. He followed along as his leash was tugged lightly, not wanting to get too far behind.
Emmaline looked up at Benson, hopping on one foot for a second to catch her balance as he put her down. She gave a small smile once she did, and nodded a bit when he told her to try stepping on her foot. She went to put it down gingerly, making sure to do it slowly like he said. She put some gentle pressure on it and winced, pulling it back up. "Well, I can't walk on it. That's for sure..." She shook her head in frustration, then looked up at the elevator doors when the familiar 'ding' announced its arrival.
She didn't argue when he put her arm over his shoulders, glad he didn't try to pick her up again. It wasn't like she was heavy or anything, but.. She was heavy. In the normal sense that a person is always heavy to carry. She hopped into the elevator with Benson's help, Bennet following along happily. As there was a sudden command, 'Sit,' Bennet sat quickly, tilting his head to the side and perking his ears as he looked up at Benson, a little confused. Emmaline just nodded as Benson excused himself and then started to untangle himself from his dogs.
When he started to try and start up a conversation, Emmaline gave a small smile, "Oh, I'm a writer.... I'm studying at Barrie University." She then bit her lip, the full awkwardness of the situation hitting her. "Please, call me Emma. Or, Emmaline if you prefer..." She laughed a little to herself, "I would ask what you do, but... I already know." She held up the business card he had given her, "So, what exactly does the 'CEO of Snap.com' do?" She looked at Benson, a little curious as to what his career entailed. "I mean, it's fine if you don't want to talk about it, I just thought it might be something to talk about. But if you would prefer to be quiet, I'm just fine with that too..."

Do you believe in reinvention. Do you believe that life is holding the clue? Any way to face the silence, any way to face the pain that kills you. Benson nodded stiffly. “Emmaline.” he said uncomfortably as if testing the name. He Shifted as he regrasped the dogs leashes. His deep brown eyes flashed in thought as he stared at her far too sharply lately. He wasn't good at judging when he was starring and he had a bad feeling he was making this even more awkward. He looked away a little too quickly again. He just didn't do human interaction well. Dogs he could handle. People were just too much work.
When she mentioned studying writer he visibly cringed. How did this woman intend to make a living? Was she just going to scribble all day. Benson was nothing if not analytical. He hardly watched tv, though he owned one, and he read very little fiction. No he was trapped in his books about how to navigate the corporate ladder and how to invest wisely. He had one secret love in the fiction world and he defiantly wouldn't be telling this woman about the complete works of Jane Austin that sat leather bound on his largest bookshelf. She must have come from lower means, rich people never wrote books unless it was about themselves.
“So I see. How long til you graduate?” He asked with a strained force. His eyes flicked to Bennett who sat perfectly and he reached over and rubbed the large dog gently between the eyes, he had never met a mutt who didn't like it. “Good boy.” He said relaxing slightly. She was lucky she had a dog, or he might have killed her.
He was about to start talking about his job when the door gave a sharp ding and he swung her arm over his shoulder again and walked forward to the only door on the level. He glanced to her then leaned her against the wall. Still holding the leashes he looked up. ”Welcome to my home I suppose.”
He unlocked the door and opened it onto quite the amazing sight. To the right was a massive living room, full dark wood floors, and a massive wall of windows that overlooked the park. The back wall was encompassed by a kitchen with sleek metal appliances and granite counters. The apartment slid straight back to a wide glass door that opened into a roof top garden complete with a small lawn to one side, presumably for the dogs. Around behind the kitchen ran a large hallway, that assumability ran to the spare rooms. The living room was furnished with large leather furniture, each with a blanket thrown over them so that one didn't stick to the sofa, and a big, flat screen tv. There was an electric fire place under the wall mounted tv.
He helped her inside and easily unclipped each dog in turn. Hunter shot off for the back door, skittering where ever carpets didn't cover the wood. He scratched and whined at the back door and Benson shook his head. “Hold on Hunter.” he said complacently and helped Emmaline over to the sofa ignoring all three mutts for now. He lightly helped her sit down on the couch and nodded. “Set your leg on the sofa I'll be back in a minute.”
He turned on his heel and wandered off to the back door, Delilah lightly trailing at his heel like a sweet tempered shadow. He placed the chuck it on the kitchens island and walked to the back door and opened it with a smile. The smell of summer flowers, lilacs and lavender mainly, and out shot hunter. He bolted around the potted plants then took to rolling in the grass. With a smile Benson walked to their water bowl and took it into the kitchen. She could wait a moment the dogs had been good and deserved a bit of something. He filled the massive bowl and grabbed three cookies out of the pantry. “Mind if I give one to your dog?” He asked in more of a relaxed tone. He was still stiff and strained but his voice was calmer making him seem a little less like a razor and more human. He handed off the cookies then left the doors open so the dogs could come and go as they chose.
He slipped back outside and left the water before drifting about his very clean, very well organized, apartment. Benson drug out an ace wrap and grabbed a soft icepack out of the fridge before returning to Emmaline. He sat himself down and looked up at her quite seriously. “Ok I'm going to take off your shoe and it's going to hurt.” He said and set about it ignoring any protest she might make again. He slowly unlaced it then gingerly pulled it off with a focused look. Then he took to examining her ankle. He rubbed slowly along the sides, moved it just slightly, and nodded slowly.
Good thing he had taken her she would need to stay off this for a bit and defiantly ice it. He took the ace wrap and slowly started to wrap it, his stern expression turning into one of calm. ”The ceo of snap.” He finally responded to her, ”Is responsible for keeping the company running. Most everything goes through me. How many people we hire, budgets, goals. I do not do any hiring myself but staffing levels and keeping the company running fall under my title. So does fixing a crisis if something goes horridly wrong.”
He finished wrapping her ankle and nodded at his work clearly pleased but he didn't smile yet. He took the ice pack and placed it over her ankle. “Your not going to want to walk yet. Can I offer you a drink in the mean time... Maybe some painkillers? What kind of writing do you do anyways?”He poured himself a glass of water waiting to see if she wanted anything. Your smile shine a little light, alright. Don't hide, shine a little light. Give up on your pride.

Emmaline nodded a little as he seemed to test the name, sounding a little awkward with it. Her French mother's name selection apparently didn't agree too well with him. Not that it mattered. She had given him the Americanized version of 'Emma,' but he had chosen the full name. But that was just fine by her- she was partial to her full name anyways. She looked up as he asked how long until she graduated, ignoring the fact that he had cringed at her proclamation of a career path, "Well, assuming that none of my professors decide that they hate my writing style and fail me because of it, I'm on track to graduate in three years, just like everyone else. Though I'm hoping to take some accelerated classes and finish early."
She shrugged a little then looked up as a ding echoed in the elevator and Benson put her arm around his shoulder again to help her off the elevator. She leaned against the wall to keep her balance as he unlocked the door, "Oh, uhm... Thanks. I'm sure it's a lovely place." She gave a small, semi-awkward smile, then kicked herself. Was she completely stupid? He obviously didn't want her there, so she was absolutely and completely intruding. She should just shut-up, do what she was told, and do her best to not look like a complete moron.
She had to remind herself to breathe when he opened the door. She could presume that she would never see an apartment like it ever again, after all, you had to be incredibly rich to even have an apartment that was right across the street from Central Park, let alone one of this size. Then again, he was the CEO of Snap, so what did she expect? She looked around the apartment as he helped her to the sofa, and she nodded a little as he told her to put her leg up on it. Bennet was sniffing around a little before he went to see if Hunter wanted to play, and he padded over to the back door quietly, a big dopey great-dane smile plastered on his face. He ran out the door after Hunter, wanting to play tag or something like that.
Emmaline looked over to the kitchen as he asked her a question, and she smiled, "He will love you forever. Go right ahead." Like she was going to stop him from giving Bennet a treat? Either way, it was polite that he had asked. It was almost a shame that Emma was so... not rich. Otherwise, she might see herself being friends with Benson. But he wouldn't waste his time with people like her, she was sure.
She then watched as he came back with an ace wrap and an ice pack. She clenched her jaw a little and nodded as he warned her that he was going to take off her shoe. She was expecting the pain, but still, it startled her anyways, and as he pulled off the shoe, she yelped a little, but forced herself not to pull away. She winced a little as he examined her ankle, pressing a sensitive spot here or there, and then moving it a little bit. As he started to wrap the ace bandage around her ankle, he finally spoke, answering her earlier question about what the CEO did. She smiled a little, "Sounds like a real low-stress job you have there..." Of course, her voice just oozed sarcasm there.
She put a hand out to hold the ice-pack on her ankle when he put it there, and she nodded a little as he said she wouldn't want to walk on it just yet. That was a given. But still, she didn't want to be rude, so she kept quiet. She smiled a little as he asked if she wanted anything, and she bit her lip, "Oh, Thank you. Just a little water would be nice...." She didn't want to impose on him too much. She really just wanted to get Bennet and leave now that he had bandaged her up, but she got the feeling he wasn't going to just let her walk out now. Not like that.

Benson shifted nervously but gave a curt nod grabbing two glasses from the dark wood cabinets and filled them with ice water from the fridges filter and ice maker all that right on its stainless steel front. He took the glass over and handed it to Emmaline smiling slightly. He tossed the treat to Bennett, after making him sit again. He watched the massive pup remembering he had almost gotten a big dog, a wolf hound but big none the less. But he had too many nice things but his tail would be too dangerous in his high end house. So he had chosen two very active smaller dogs.
Hunter saw Bennett bounding at him and that little stumpy blue and brown speckled tail and shoved it between his legs. However he squared off and held his ground perking his ears as the massive dog pawed at him. The tiny pup shot between Bennett's legs and went tearing around the “Back yard” out on the roof yipping and trying to start a game of chase.
Delilah stuck to her master once she had sniffed about keeping close to his heal like a red and white shadow. Her big doe eyes watched him lovingly until she noticed Emmaline hadn't left. She darted over, under the coffee table, and sat beside the couch her tail wagging. Screw the other dogs there were people to love her. She rested her slender head on the couch and turned those puppy dog eyes up to her begging for attention in the cutest, most polite way she knew how.
Benson watched the pup and a hint of a smile faltered his lips, “Well hopefully you have no professors of that nature. That or ones who are disgruntled you write better then them. Either way its a rather unstable profession I wish you luck.” He fell into that awkward stiff silence and began wandering about sipping at his glass of water as if it was just too difficult to sit with her around.
“Please excuse me for a moment.” He said rather abruptly and turned on his heel. He tugged at his collar and started taking off his shirt heading in a bee line towards the back rooms. He stripped it off, revealing nothing more then a lazy black wife beater. It revealed the man was far from out of shape and took good care of himself. He disappeared into a back room, his bedroom.
He stared at his four poster bed and closed the door leaning against it with a sigh. What the hell had he gotten himself into. The woman was clearly just another face on the street but she was damn good looking and it was throwing him as far out of his element as he had ever been in his own home. This was his castle he never took anyone here. She lived two blocks away!!!! Was he really such a sucker for beauty. He tossed the shirt in the trash can and changed into a pair of jeans and another button up, a bit more relaxed and less severe.
He glanced at himself in the mirror and frowned. What did it matter. He had to get her out of her soon before he went mad. He tugged at his collar again and buttoned the shirt with a frown. He could just get her out the door and forget her like a bad employee, so he kept telling himself.
Benson returned from his bedroom and glanced to the dogs then to the woman, “So...” He said trying to start conversation again. His eyes turned to Bennett, “Your dog's name... Is it from Jane Austin?” He asked looking at the dog and not her. It made this easier. He swallowed hard looking a bit pained. “Or is that just a coincidence?” He was trying, desperately to make conversation as was expected of normal people. Usually he was quiet and rather reserved but compared to normal this woman made him feel like he was babbling like an idiot. When to normal people he was hardly talking at all.

Emmaline looked up as she was handed a glass of ice water, and she smiled and thanked Benson, “Thank you so much. I really don’t know how to thank you enough.” Except by paying for his suit cleaning. Or just… Buying him a new suit altogether, since his was ruined. And it was her fault. She hesitated just a second before she lifted the glass to her lips and took a sip of the icy water.
Bennet was more than happy to oblige in the game of chase, and he awkwardly went bounding after Hunter, tripping over his own large paws as he went, wiping out every now and again, but getting right back up and chasing the small puppy again. Bennet couldn’t have imagined a more fun game, that was for sure. He was a large puppy, but a puppy none the less.
Emmaline smiled a little as Delilah came over suddenly, apparently just realizing that she was still there. It didn’t take much convincing before Emma put her hand down to scratch Delilah gently behind the ears and pet her. She nodded a little then, “Oh, I really hope I don’t get any like that. I don’t know that any of them would be disgruntled because I’m a better writer than them, I think I’d be more likely to run into the ones who just hate my writing.” She shrugged a little, “Thank you though, I need all the luck I can get.”
She looked down at Delilah a moment, then looked up at Benson, nodding a little as he excused himself. She pet Delilah a little more, then looked up as Bennet came skittering into the house, then slid to a stop by her, a big dopey grin on his face. Emma reached for his leash then, but stopped when she heard the door open and close again, signaling that Benson was coming back.
With a sigh, Emmaline let go of the leash, deciding to at least thank Benson one more time before leaving. She gave him a bit of a smile as he came back in the room, and he started trying to make conversation, “Well, actually, I just called him Bennet as a joke when I first got him, mostly because my mum always teased me and said I would probably name my dogs Darcy and Charles, etc, but then the name just stuck, so Bennet is… Bennet.” She shrugged a little, “What about Hunter and Delilah? Any stories behind their names? Or did they just seem to fit?” She was trying, really she was, it just didn’t seem the right time to say good bye.
How rude would that be? ‘Yeah, I named my dog after a book character. Now I need to leave. Thank you for all of the help. Bye!’ No, Emmaline was going to be polite. She would wait a moment until there was a more reasonable point to thank Benson and excuse herself.

Poor little Delilah had been greatly enjoying the scratching when the massive dog balled her over. She gave a surprised yip and shot off like an arrow to sulk under the table staring out at Bennett with silent alarm. Quite the little lady she flopped down and just glowered letting her want for pets be tempered by her better judgment of picking a fight with a horse.
Benson shifted uncomfortably again and nodded slowly. “Yes it is a hopeful thing.” He glanced at her then away. He was giving this up. It was hopeless, he was uneasy, he had to get her out of here. His eyes flicked to the time. He needed a plausible lie he could tell her. He shifted and looked back at the woman on his couch trying to flash a smile but it came off as a grimace. He was no good at this. This was just getting more and more painful. He wrung his hands a moment.
When she explained her dogs name he was, for a moment, genuinely interested. The name Darcy from her lips almost caused his knees to melt and his heart started beating a bit faster, funny he thought. That has never happened before. He let it go shaking his head to clear it but everything seemed oddly foggy and he found himself suddenly more then a little uncomfortable. “You must really like Pride and Prejudice if your mother recommended it.” At the question to his dogs names he glanced to them. “Delilah was a shelter pup. Her name came on her tag and I kept it. I thought it fitting. She is pure bred, papers and all just wound up in a shelter.... Hunter.” He peered at the dog a moment as if thinking.
“The first thing hunter did was tree a cat. He shot out of my arms and took that thing right up a tree. The breeder said something that stuck 'Man that dog would be a mighty fine hunter.' and it stuck. So not original but the names fit I feel.” He rambled trying desperately to keep himself under control. He felt like his skin might crawl off his bones and his heart might break through his ribs and flutter off into oblivion. He frowned at the fanciful thoughts and shook his head. He was far from a fanciful person, he thought in numbers, and statistics, not in fantasy. This woman had to go and fast before she tore his world right out from under him.
He started going down the list of excuses, he had to work... well it was obvious he had just come from the office. He had a date? No that wouldn't work but he couldn't explain why so he dropped that idea. Perhaps he had a work dinner? Well that made sense. He glanced to the clock, it was seven. This was defiantly plausible. He took a deep breath and felt his nerves settle. He turned his head and glanced over to Emmaline and opened his mouth to basically kick her out but found himself unable. “Let me drive you to your building...” He said rather abruptly paling at his own Gaul. He took a deep breath.
Why the hell had he said that!? He could have let her walk out that door but no. His twisted sense of honor wouldn't let him. Well damn it he had backed himself into a corner. “Your dog can sit in back... It will be fine my dogs do...” He frowned and looked away feeling more and more uncomfortable. Apparently he shouldn't have brought it up. The only thing he could guess is the thought of an intellectual woman turned him on, or at least one who talked about Mr. Darcy. He flushed and cleared his throat abruptly. Nothing could be more mortifying to the man then the thought he was excited about a college wannabe novelist. He was going to be the laughing stock of the office tomorrow if this got out to anyone. He looked away uncomfortably again.
“Unless you would rather walk.... I wouldn't mind helping you...” he winced at his own words. He just couldn't stop where this woman was concerned! He forced another smile, grimace, and stood stalk still. He couldn't stand he wanted her, even if he assumed it was only physically. He stiffened slightly trying not to appear like he was panicking internally.
