So give them blood, blood, gallons of the stuff! Give them all that they can drink and it will never be enough. So give them blood, blood, blood.Grab a glass because there's going to be a flood! _________________________________________________________________ The night shift. It was usually the most dreaded shift in the hospital. Most nurses and doctors cringed at the idea of pulling an all nighter and working till daybreak. The overnighter was the punishment position, and the job for those without children. Harsh florescent lights kept the hospital 'cheery' all through the night. It was bright, hurt the eyes, and the hum could drive a man to headaches if they listened long enough. The overnight also meant understaffed and hard work. Most drunk driving accidents and shootings happened at night and with less doctors then during the day it could get crazy.
Valko was quite the opposite of the average doctor. Most days he asked to work in the evenings. There were just too many windows and though it wouldn't kill him the staff got mad if he wore sunglass all the time around the hospital. Even if he told them he had sensitivity issues they still advised against it. So he took night shifts and had his staff work during the day. It meant his blood bankers, as he called them, thought he was a great boss because they rarely had to work overnights.
So he clocked in just after sunset running his fingers through his bleached blond hair. He shot a smile at the nurse behind the counter ”Charity. Very good to see you this evening.” He shot her a smile and she glared at him. Charity was not a woman who liked the night shift and he knew it. Still it was fun to make her unhappy. He turned and walked down the hall and into the blood lab.
It was always somewhat chilly in the room, which was the way he liked it, due to the massive cooler in the back which kept the blood fresh. He was glad for the pressure sealing doors, it kept the smell at bay. Most people liked that, but for the vampire it kept him sane. He had fed, as he always did before work and though it wasn't maddening as the smell could be it was like an itch you could never scratch. Being caught feeding at work would cause too many questions and at the very least have him committed to the psych ward.
He sat himself down at his desk and closed his eyes breathing slowly. Breathing, even if he had been doing it for the last ten or so years, still seemed a novelty to him. He had gone centuries of never having to until, well now when he had to being somewhere between dead and alive. His heart beat was weak for a human and his skin pale but he was alive in most senses of the word. He could eat, walk about in the sun (though he avoided that due to sensitivity due to a long time without), breath, and do just about anything a mortal could. He still avoided churches and crucifix because of old memories. He just didn't want to risk burning a cross into his skin or being struck down to ash, again.
It just wasn't worth the risk to play in the house of the god who had damned him in the first place. It was the simple fact that his immortal soul was forced into this hellish, lonely existence that made him hate the Christian god. The god could keep his boring hymns and his stuffy churches he was happy enough without them.
”Bring on the shooting victims. Bring on the accidents. The more you fools hurt yourselves the faster time goes....” He muttered to himself. It was may and the vampire quite enjoyed the rainy season. Clouds meant less sun, which meant he could work during the day without his shades. He kicked his feet up on his desk and closed his eyes, his staff had done good work and everything was finished for the current moment, soon though he knew the phone would start ringing and he would be bolting around the hospital faster then a rabbit on easter but for now, he was content to sit and enjoy the cool florescent lighting in his lab. He was defiantly a fan of this century.___________________________________________________________________ Lyrics copyright to My Chemical Romance- Blood

One of Elizabeth’s servants poured her a glass of champagne as she sat on her favorite chair, a white chaise lounge in the middle of her glass floor, the work of a great architect that she had hired- it held one thousand pieces and each one was exactly like all the others. Her kitchen was fairly small, only large enough for about one person, and held a bar on the outside. As her servant poured her glass of champagne, he trembled, nearly spilling the champagne. Annoyed, Elizabeth sharply told him, “If you spill any, I’ll take the whole bottle out of your next paycheck.” He began to walk over to her. When he reached the glass lake, he spilled some of the champagne, then the oaf slipped on the champagne. Worse, however, was the effect of his slipping. The thin glass flew out of his hand, smashing into her left shoulder. Elizabeth stared in amazement as her blood flowered on her white muslin dress. Ruined. “You’re fired,” she told him calmly, trembling slightly as she stood to her full imperious height. Nobody shall hire you again. You will be ruined, living in the dregs, unless you leave New York City, and even there you shall have trouble finding a job. Benjamin, drive me to the hospital to get this thing patched up.” She grimaced at the gory wound on her arm. Exiting her apartment, she rode down the elevator, and, once in the parking garage, entered her limousine. Soon, she reached the hospital, blood covering most of the upper half of her dress. Throwing open the door, she strode into the hospital, then stopped. Crimson red dripped on the floor, once, twice, three times… the darkness came from the furthest corners of her mind before she (most embarrassingly) collapsed into a heap on the cold hospital floor.

So give them blood, blood, gallons of the stuff! Give them all that they can drink and it will never be enough. So give them blood, blood, blood.Grab a glass because there's going to be a flood! _________________________________________________________________ It wasn't two minutes of the woman entering the hospital Valko's pager went mad. He glanced down and stood. With practiced ease he pulled open the pressurized door and pulled out two bags of blood. Turning on his heel he strode briskly out of his office and was on the elevator heading for ICU quick as a flash. He glanced at the people in the elevator with him, a pair of nurses, a doctor, all responding to the code blue. He smiled at them, a look that never quite reached those gray eyes, and headed in to the room.
The staff on hand had already closed the wound and someone was still snapping instructions as they patched the space. He stepped gracefully around them shaking his head as he slid in, ”Move” He said to a nurse and she skittered out of his way. If there was one thing the man knew how to do it was how to get people out of his way. There was something innately creepy about him at times and anytime there was blood involved he seemed to turn dark. People attributed it to his not liking to see good blood waisted, he allowed them their thoughts.
With practiced ease he hung the bag and inserted the iv watching the blood slowly begin to drain into her body. He wondered, distantly, why humans couldn't replenish themselves in the same way he could never made sense, then again it had been a long time since he had been human. He leaned against the wall, out of the way, as they finished stitching her up and the other doctors evacuated. He was here to replace two pints after all not one. He stared at the woman in the silence that followed the chaos of an ICU room.
His gray eyes swung up to stare at the nurse who sat just outside the door at the desk so if something happened to anyone on the floor she could get word out and be a first responder. So he waited his eyes flicking to the bag.
His hands gripped, white knuckled, to the window sill. He hated this part. He was watching a stranger drink a fine wine he couldn't afford. It was almost torturous. Still this job allowed him access to anything he needed. Seeing as he did inventory he just subtracted a few items from each order and adjusted the ordering records quickly. He was meticulous, he would not die again.
Still something about this woman was, simply put, off. She reminded him of his first wife, with her silver blond beautiful hair and her pale skin. He shook off the thought, he didn't need to think of the loneliness of eternity at work, he could ponder that at his apartment. His eyes flickered over the woman again and he noted there was something simply, not human. Again his eyes flicked to the draining bag, as soon as the second one had entered her he had to return to the lab, he would be called if her body rejected the match.
Something deep in him wished she would awaken, his gray eyes flashing almost red from time to time, as he observed her with a stare as cold as ice. He wanted to touch her but resisted. His skin was cold by any standards. His cold office could explain it normally but he tried to avoid contact when at all possible. For now, he was content to stare, and wait. He could leave soon enough and consider the memories, and minor infatuation with her appearance, later. "Never a dull moment" He muttered in his softly german accented voice.___________________________________________________________________ Lyrics copyright to My Chemical Romance- Blood

"Never a dull moment." Slowly, Elizabeth's eyes flickered open as she regained consciousness. How humiliating, somebody was in here, watching her. Well, she supposed the machines couldn't do everything. Something about his eyes reminded her of... of... herself, actually. Why? Maybe it was the coldness, or the fact they were cold and gray, like Elizabeth's. "No, I suppose there isn't, working the night shift in the hospital," Her voice was smooth, not betraying her inner humiliation. Her eyebrows raised in humor, she told him, "An ancient Chinese curse is 'May you live in interesting times'. Today certainly was interesting, what with one of my staff members getting themselves fired by launching a wineglass at my shoulder."
Her eyes flicked around the room and saw the large package of blood above her bed. Genuinely surprised, she asked, "How much did I lose?" feeling certain he would know what she was talking about.

He was under the impression she was unconscious. Well everyone could be wrong. He looked the woman over in thought a moment. Well she defiantly wasn't his first wife. This woman had some beautiful eyes but alas his wife's had been blue. It just happened to be a striking resemblance, pity, he missed the woman. Then again he looked nothing like he did in the previous life. He was just hopeful today, and reminiscent it seemed.
He shrugged after a long pause having been far too lost in his thoughts, ”Not when you work with blood everyday that is.” He said his voice holding a slight German accent. He had gotten good at imitating language over time so because of that it took very little time to lose an accent, even if this was a new body. He shrugged again and left it at that he gave another one of those smiles that just missed the eyes.
When she mentioned how she had been cut he rose a brow taking a shot in the dark because of how she spoke, ”At least it was an elegant way to lose blood. He could have hit you with a knife and that would be awfully like a prison killing. I don't think it quite fits the lady.” He turned his gaze to the door watching the nurse do her work a moment, she wasn't looking their way.
His patient spoke again and his sharp eyes flashed back to the iv bag in thought watching how quickly it was losing blood verses the soft patter of her heart. He turned his gaze back to her, ”Almost two pints. Probably will stop you half way through the second bag and check your vitals.” He stepped closer and tapped the bag.
”Funny how without this... all you are is a corpse.” He wasn't in a romantic mood. The fact she looked so similar to his old wife made him antsy and irritable but curious. She seemed, hardened, like himself. It was the eyes of a woman who had seen more then her time should have allowed. ___________________________________________________________ Lyrics copyright to My Chemical Romance- Blood

Inhaling deeply, Elizabeth closed her eyes while a wave of dizziness passed over her. Perhaps talking to the nearest handsome hospital staff worker so soon after regaining consciousness was a bad idea. Still, she had started the conversation- as he had apparently thought he was merely thinking aloud- and so she would continue with it until it was time for him to attend to other duties. "Not when you work with blood every day, that is." He had an accent. Was it a... German accent? Maybe he was a German immigrant. "No, I suppose not," Her words were enunciated, "You must see a wide range of patients." "At least it was an elegant way to lose blood. He could have hit you with a knife and that would have been awfully like a prison killing. I don't think it quite fits the lady." In thanks for the embeded compliment and as a display of humor, she flashed him a smile. Scanning the bloodbag, Elizabeth watched the blood flow into her body: drip... drip... drip... Three drops of blood on a cold hospital floor. "Certainly," She said with elegance. A vitals check was routine at a hospital; it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. "Yes, isn't it strange? Humans are such fragile creatures, always on the edge of death. Isn't it amazing we managed not only to survive this long, but also to dominate the earth?" Life was, indeed, quite a strange thing.

Her heart rate was good, blood pressure was normal, and her heart sounded strong. Unlike most doctors he didn't need a stethoscope to hear any changes to the heart. Heart's pounded in his ears, taunting him, calling him.
For a moment his eyes flashed to her shoulder observing the bandaged wound with a shrug of his shoulders. ”I see a lot of different things yes. Old, young. Fat, skinny. You name it I have probably put blood into it.” 'or taken blood out of it' he mentally added.
He reached out and took her hand, his own inhumanly cold. Touching him could cause people who were not strong emotionally, or mentally, to feel weak. It wasn't a true sensation but something that was in his very nature, a danger that warned creatures to run for their lives. His grip was vice like and he touched her wrist with two fingers as lightly as he could. His eyes followed the clock and he set it down again and nodded, ”Everything looks fine. You will recover without a problem. You should have called an ambulance. They would have stitched this up on the ride over and you would have lost less blood that way and probably not have fallen unconscious.”
Regardless of what his title was he held a fully proficient M.A. He had studied hard and could, if he wanted, move on to being a doctor. Still he was happy where he was. He pulled out a flashlight and motioned over his shoulder, ”Look behind me please.” He moved the flash light in front of each eye then flashed it away watching her reaction time. ”They were worried you hit your head in the fall but everything seems normal.”
He nodded and replaced the light in his lab coat nodding easily, ”I am always impressed at how quickly we build too. Just imagine this city 200 years ago... you would probably be terrified of infection right now but thanks to modern medicine we simply stitch you up, give you antibiotics and head you on your way.” He gave another one of those cold smiles and glanced to the door, ”Anything else I can do for you? Everything here seems fine.”___________________________________________________________________ Lyrics copyright to My Chemical Romance- Blood

”I see a lot of different things yes. Old, young. Fat, skinny. You name it I have probably put blood into it.” Elizabeth nodded. He’d probably been working here a long time; he seemed comfortable enough in his surroundings. He reached down to take her pulse, his hand the coldest she had ever felt. It was hard to tell, but perhaps his hand was even a bit colder than hers, the first time she’d ever experienced anything but people warmer than she.
”Everything looks fine. You will recover without a problem. You should have called an ambulance. They would have stitched this up on the ride over and you would have lost less blood that way and probably not have fallen unconscious.”
Accepting of the truth of his words, she nodded. Unfortunately, next time she would not be taking an ambulance either; it was merely adding lemon juice to an injury on her pride. “Surely,” she said, “But then, we might not have met, would we have…” Her voice trailed off in an invitation for his name. Elizabeth had decided he was worthy, and so the delicate dance began.
”Look behind me please.” ”They were worried you hit your head in the fall but everything seems normal.” ”I am always impressed at how quickly we build too. Just imagine this city 200 years ago... you would probably be terrified of infection right now but thanks to modern medicine we simply stitch you up, give you antibiotics and head you on your way.” ”Anything else I can do for you? Everything here seems fine.”
She nodded at the remainder of his advice. “Any idea how long I should be in the hospital for?” She inquired. The less time spent in a hospital bed in a hospital gown (she had not checked, but surely) the better. Now, how to ensure another meeting, beside the loss of more blood that is. “And maybe,” A truthful smile holding real warmth- not an easy feat for Elizabeth- was offered, “Coffee or dinner sometime?” Before he could leave, she told him her cellphone number. Elizabeth didn’t offer a home phone number, but she didn’t have a home phone. Who did these days?

He noted the woman's flesh was cold to the touch and looked back to her IV. Slowly it was dripping and he walked to the counter, in one corner setting the second bag inside the small fridge and turned to nod slowly to her.
”I am not a person most like to meet. Especially when their in here. Blood and all that makes most people nervous. I don't see why.” He tapped the iv stand, ”It saves their lives.”
When she began flirting he smirked slightly clearly pleased with himself by this revelation. Women, especially beautiful women, always got his attention with complements. His eyes flashed over her once more and he stood still to listen. ”What is it they say, all things happen for a reason. You will probably be leaving tomorrow morning. They want to keep you overnight for observation. At least that's what your chart tells me. I'm just the man who gives their patients blood.” he added slowly after and held the card with her cell number. Much like her he didn't have a home phone, just his cell phone and even that seemed unnecessary, still it was amazing what technology could do. Mankind, if nothing else, were diligent workers.
He flipped the card between his fingers and decided to be openly frank with the woman, nothing revealing, just a simple caution. If she was brave she might be worth his time and perhaps make a brilliant meal. If she was shy, she might get to live more then a week or so. He smiled sweetly, however his eyes did something quite different, they turned harsh, predatory, and sharp. ”I am not the sort of man you want to go out with. I am not exactly a normal man, I do not have normal desires. I recommend.”
He leaned on the side of the bed so he loomed slightly over the usually imposing woman, ”I recommend you retract your offer and go on with your day. However if you are still interested. I could make dinner happen fairly easily.” He stood again and with a jerk straightened his jacket and then broke eye contact. ”Well it is your choice.” He slowly flipped the card between his fingers waiting on her answer. He had a feeling she might be up for the game. She was interesting.___________________________________________________________________ Lyrics copyright to My Chemical Romance- Blood

Elizabeth nodded. Human superstitions- the most elementary of which was the fear of blood. The fear of blood was rooted in it's connections to pain, death, and evil, although it flowed inside the veins of every human in the world.
Tomorrow morning. That wasn't too far from now. She could merely sleep, awaken, then leave, simple as that. Flicking her eyes up and down in tiny motions as he flipped her card around, Elizabeth scoffed, "Do you think I allow just any old guy to take me out? Do you think I'd pick a man who merely runs the rat race? Do you think," Her voice reached a powerful climax, the ultimate truth, "I myself am what modern society considers 'normal'? I am far above average, and I thought I saw a more-than-mediocre spark within you as well." His eyes hardened and flashed as he leaned above her, and what eyes they were. Imagine if they were only filled with devotion to Elizabeth Snowfeild.
"I shall not back down from my decision," Suddenly she grasped at the murky edges of a much larger game, a game she was now trapped within. "I do not have run-of-the-mill desires either, and you are the first man I have ever truly desired." Elizabeth's eyes flashed. Once she made a decision, she did not back down.

For a moment he was like stone. Unmoved and clearly uncaring. His eyes flashed with malice and thought as he observed the womans resolve. She had promise. She showed all the stubborn determination he had before his time with his sire. He was curious though. She didn't turn and run as most would have.
With a simple movement he slipped her card into his lab coat. He pulled out his own wallet and from it slipped an embossed business card with his name, work and cell numbers, and a raised red spot that looked a lot like a blood drop. ”You seem determined to do this well. Here.” He handed her his card and slipped his wallet away with a smirk. ”Just be careful what you expect. I am a rather.... cold person. It takes a lot to make me warm up.”
He glanced at her blood bag then to the spare in his hand. The other was about half empty already, quick drips sliding down into her arm because she had lost so much blood. He smirked again and placed the spare into the small fridge under the counter that ran the length of one side of the room. He turned his gaze back and looked her over as if considering some small things.
Her mention of strange taste made him chuckle. Again the sound was real, he really was laughing, he really was enjoying himself. Somehow it fell just short of his eyes, those hard unrelenting gray eyes that fixated darkly on things. He turned his gaze to the nurse beyond and waved noticing she was peering at them curiously. It was rare he stayed longer then a few moments in a patient room so she was curious what was going on. ”My tastes are... very particular and there are very few who accept them. But we will see.” He shrugged his shoulders then ran his fingers through his slicked hair watching her face for any reaction.
”I do not work tomorrow. I will pick you up at 8 pm sharp. I will call you once I am awake tomorrow as I sleep most of the day. I have a condition which makes sunlight hard on my eyes so excuse me for not offering to pick you up sooner.” He flicked his eyes over her and cocked his head. She was obviously a high class woman, and with his being a doctor he made good money. ”Wear something nice.... I will be back in the hour to check on you. Don't be hard on any technician who comes in here. Unlike you we can't afford to hire them.”
He flashed her a lopsided smile and shot her a wink before turning on his heel and leaving the room as briskly as he had come. He would be back. There was something about the woman that drew him in. She was as cold and hard as he was, without a look or gesture of some unspoken softness. He liked the idea, it would be refreshing after all. He wasn't much of a gentleman, he hadn't been since shortly after his deaths. Ages alone drove one to cruelty, drove you to seeing people as pawns. Still perhaps a nice evening out, and then perhaps an even nicer meal, would be fantastic.___________________________________________________________________ Lyrics copyright to My Chemical Romance- Blood

The crimson liquid rolled around in the blood bag he held. He slipped her card away and handed her one with a blood drop on it. Like what? Not reacting based on emotion? She sensed he didn't, just as she didn't normally.
"Eight o'clock is a perfectly respectable time for a dinner date. Any earlier and it wouldn't really be a date," Dress nicely? When was the last time she HADNT? Not that he'd know that. With a flash, she knew what she was going to wear. If it didn't look horrible with hatever patch she had on the wound of her arm. Back in an hour. Was that a normality, or was he coming back because he fancied her as well? A spontaneous smile snuck onto her face at the joke about the technicians. His grin, the fact it wasn't perfect and cheesy like most handsme men's, was charming. He winked at her and strode out. Tension Elizabeth had been holding in her body escaped and she went limp, no longer having to keep herself perfect for an outsider. Her eyes drooped shut. Losing that much blood was, to put it simply, exhausting. Soon, she slipped into unconciousness. Perhaps she should host a ball at the Ice Palace...

He glanced at the unconscious woman and shook his head. What was he thinking. Well she was cold, dark, and emanated the same level of care for her peons as he did, none. So he found her interesting. It was rare to find anyone as distant as himself and she played the part well. Still if she ended up being boring he had a meal at his beck and call. Nothing to worry about. The man was good at what he did.
He reached into the small fridge and pulled out the new bag, he cut off the first one and attached the second with a shake of his head. His eyes darted to her wound then to the nurse across the way. She hardly looked at him. He frowned and shook his head starting the new blood drip and shook his head. Perhaps he should just go. She was out cold. He leaned over her a moment then turned on his heel to leave with a shake of his head, he shouldn't be doing this. If things went wrong she knew where he worked, what he did. It was always dangerous going anywhere with patients.
Well he could always treat her like Johnathan Harker. That would be simple enough. If things got out of hand just trap her at his place. Then again he would be moving soon. Women, they were so complicated. ___________________________________________________________________ Lyrics copyright to My Chemical Romance- Blood
