“Did you brush your teeth, dear?
Olivia sighed. Iris’ question was starting to become repetitive. “No, I skipped that today.” she answered sarcastically, checking her wallet. As always, there was a lack of quarters. Olivia could feel Iris’ agitation with the biting reply but she ignored it. The fairy began pacing from the kitchen to the balcony door in their room at the Ice Palace. “I can’t believe you’re going to Gingey’s. You loathe that place.” Iris was speaking nonchalantly as she stopped to fix the curtains before continuing. “Petal couldn’t meet you anywhere else? Why not that nice organic place down the street from The Great Stone Dragon?” Olivia shrugged and slipped on her heels. “I don’t know, Iris, and I don’t mind.”
Fifteen minutes later, they were on their way to the bakery. Olivia had decided to walk today. It was a nice enough outside and she was in no mood for rude cab drivers. Iris sat on Olivia’s left shoulder, holding onto a strand of hair to keep from falling off. She seemed to be judging every person that walked by and it took quite a bit of Olivia’s will to resist doing the same. Nudging the door open to Gingey’s with her hip, Olivia instantly cringed. It was as if even the smells of pastries were rotting her teeth. She quickly made her way to a table and sat. It was a good thing she wasn’t hungry or thirsty, for that matter, or she might have to consider buying something. Olivia took her phone from her purse and fired off a text to Petal.
‘Will you be at Gingey’s soon?’
