Clarissa seemed to go from nervous, through some transition, and finally something he couldn't describe. She was radiating this beautiful feeling. He felt like he was standing near a fire, hugging a star.
“We should do something later. My shift is over soon.”
Naturally, David almost fell out of his chair at the proposition. He had this feeling like his world was just turned over by this girl. She said it so calmly, too, not like he'd just been working to get a sentence out of her.
“We could go bowling.”
Ah, bowling. He was only mildy bad at that. And the shoes aren't as bad as everyone makes that out to be. Her eyes met his, and that was normally enough to get his heart racing, but she smiled. She really smiled. That overcoming feeling like he was falling took over. David placed one hand on the chair and one hand on his head to make sure he wasn't actually moving.
This was a date. Clarissa was planning a date.
David had never been on a date. In his opinion, there was no point. He was insufferable and bitter and altogether nasty. But there was also that nudge in his head that told him that wasn't completely true. That he just didn't want anyone else to care about him. Anyone else to get hurt.
Should he say no?
David didn't need the chair anymore. Both hands went up and rubbed his temples. He needed to think. Yeah. But he had to answer her.
...Just answer her...
The voice was a whisper, barely a lick, a wisp, of a sound. It wasn't David's voice, David's sound. He should probably listen. If someting - God? - is giving you a sign, you listen.
"That'd be amazing." He stated. David hoped he didn't sound tired and that his response hadn't been too late. Nah, he failed both of those tests. "Here, um, I'll walk you down at, like, seven?"
David looked down at his papers. He only had two more question left.
PleasesayyesPleasesayyesPleasesayyes.
notes ;; i liked it! i'm sorry david's being a jerk. i have another idea! johanna could be bowling with, well, whoever, and on david's way to get drinks or something, he could run into her! he'll realize who and what he is, and then come back to clarissa, and know who she is and see bashful. and he still luuurve herrr. they'll have this big realization moment! Clarissa was starting to see something – or someone–hovering near David. She didn’t know what–or who– it was but Bashful seemed pretty excited. Good for him. If she was feeling this great right now, Bashful deserved to be excited. She could still feel how proud he was and her curiosity was starting to get the best of her. If David was Sneezy, what did that mean? After Bashful had awakened and they’d come back from Disney, he’d made her go out and buy Snow White and the Seven Dwarves on DVD (and VHS which took forever to find). During the boring, more filler-esque parts, Bashful told her about the whole reincarnate deal. Clarissa tried to focus on the movie but, even she had to admit, she did not care for Snow White whining about her life to some forest animals. She gave Bashful her full attention; evidently, she wasn’t the only reincarnate in New York City. Clarissa had asked why it all seemed so targeted in the Big Apple and he shrugged at her, not having an answer. He let her know that he could tell if another was from his story while still dormant. If a person were awakened, he could tell then. Tyler, for example. Bashful hadn’t told her until Disney was done and over with; he’d told her very casually: “That Tyler kid? Reincarnate of The Cowardly Lion.” She’d been furious.
Watching David now, as he filled out his papers, she wondered where things could go from here. He was sick. What if… what if it was something that couldn’t be made all better? What if… she didn’t want to think like that. Shaking her head ever so slightly, Clarissa waited as patiently as she could for an answer. Had she been to straight-forward? Was he annoyed by her, did he have a headache? Biting down on her lip, she kept the questions to herself and instead focused on Bashful. He was giving off these patient, reassuring vibes. She was glad for it, and for him. Where would she be without him? “Absolutely nowhere, doll.” Clarissa looked back to David, startled, and then smiled. Amazing. That would be amazing! She wanted to twirl around and giggle like a little girl. “Seven is perf---” Bashful cut her off, shaking his head. “No! I need to get you ready! Later!” Clarissa cleared her throat and smiled, apologetic. “7:30?” Bashful nodded and so she did as well. “I think 7:30 would be perfect.”
words; 415 notes; THAT WOULD BE /SO/ EPIC. does that change how things work in the ballroom dancing thread, though? like, would he be awakenedawakened after this bowling thread and so technically awakened in the ballroom dancing one too, right? outfit; voila

At first when David replied to her, she started. Immediately after she warmed up again.
“I think 7:30 would be perfect.”
He got that answer after one false alarm. Sometimes, it seemed like Clarissa was fighting with herself. It was kind of...throwing. He wasn't sure what to make of it, but he didn't mind waiting to find out. His answer was to nod and hand over the pen and paper to her. He was all done.
David just needed to grab his meds and then go straight outside to tap-dance and scream with excitement.
Clarissa was going to bowling...to be with him.
He tried not to smile too hard.
It was just too dang hard.
What should he wear? All he had were sweats...but wait, he had that one pair of jeans and some sweater Catie had got him for Christmas last year. Sure, he'd lost a lot of weight, but baggy was in kind of?
David stood up, standing up fully straight like he never did.
This night was going to be perfect, no complications. He was going to make sure of it.
Feeling in some kind of mood, David tossed Clarissa a flirty smile. "So, how are you at bowling?" He wasn't sure what else to say, but it seemed decent. He kept smiling. It was making his jaw hurt.
His hands started to tremble again, so he crossed his arms. He would have his drugs soon and then everything would be better. She wouldn't ever have to see him like this.
notes;; ahh! yeah, he would be awakened while dancing, i think. i'm so excited! we need to talk to shannn! again!

Bashful had already taken to planning what he would dress Clarissa up in, how he would do her makeup, and the whole shebang. It worried her and, though she wanted to tell him now that he needed to calm down, she couldn’t because she was talking to David. Ahhh, David. A warm, fuzzy feeling took over her and she couldn’t help but to smile, a bit dreamily. She wanted to sit down, prop her chin up on her hand and daydream about her life as a fairytale with David as the prince an---
“What?” she asked without a thought, unaware of what he’d just asked. She heard words in the form of a question but she’d completely missed the rest of it. Her cheeks burned and she lowered her head, trying to figure out what he had asked. Did it have to do with his medicine? With the date? “With bowling, dear. He asked how you are at bowling.” Oh thank goodness for Bashful.
Clarissa looked back up and forced a smile, taking the completed paperwork and glancing over it quickly before slipping it back into the folder. “I’m alright at bowling,” she answered with a light laugh, “I’ll be right back.” Clarissa left for the back room to retrieve his medicine, in a hurry. She didn’t want to waste a minute away from him. Bashful followed her, arms folded over his chest. “Okay, dear, you might be getting in over your head. Daydreaming about fairytales? Wanting to be with him every second of the day? You need to slow down, take a breath. David is sick, alright, hun? You don’t know what could happen in the fut---”
“Don’t say that,” Clarissa interrupted quickly, pulling David’s medicine from the storage and looking up at Bashful. “He’ll be fine.” Brushing passed Bashful, she hoped that he got her please-drop-it vibes as she approached David. Setting the medicine down, she smiled at him, feeling a bit shy. “Here you are,” she said distractedly, returning his folder to the filing cabinet. “So… yeah. I’m looking forward to tonight…” she said slowly, hoping that wasn’t awkward. She didn’t want to seem too eager.

David was almost seizing with joy. And then he sneezed quite loudly.
He brushed his hair with his hands, pulled down and smoothed his shirt, and tried to rub away the bags under his eyes before she came back. With that, he patted his mouth to memorize the smile that was there. Who knew, he might never see it again.
Clarissa handed him his medicine. Immediately, he took out three and chewed on them, cringing at the bitter and chalky taste.
“So… yeah. I’m looking forward to tonight…”
David coughed. He waited for the numbness to take his body from the pills. Or were these the ones that made him more sick at first? Agh, he should read labels before taking shit, but good golly it was just too difficult.
The date...he'd never been on a date. Should he tell her that? Girls thought that stuff was cute, right? It might scare her off, make her more nervous then she was right now. If that was possible.
"Yeah, me too," he said. Playing it cool. Always works. David stretched, making his shirt pull over his jeans and expose his stomach. No shirts were ever long enough. "Tonight is going to be a lot of fun," he continued, feeling a new wave of happy-tingles run into him. "I'll make sure. I'll buy you soda and fries and the whole deal, okay?"
David leaned on his elbows so that his face was level with Clarissa's. He wanted to see in her eyes that this was really okay. That this wasn't just part of the charity.
notes: yes! tonight!

Clarissa smiled. The smile just wasn’t going away. It was consistent. It was lovely. A shudder went through her when he took the pills dry. She’d always needed a drink when she took medicine. “How do you do that?” she asked distractedly, and perhaps a bit insensitively. It took her a second or two before she laughed, a bit sheepishly. “I… I’m sorry. That was kind of rude. And absent-minded.” She twirled a strand of hair around her finger; Bashful praised her for the girlish gesture, which led to her immediately stopping. Clarissa nodded and sat up a little. Bashful was reminding her that she shouldn’t start daydreaming again which was bound to happen if she’d continued resting her chin on her hands. David stretched and she was momentarily distracted by his exposed skin. Clarissa diverted her gaze and ignored the heat of her cheeks.
When she looked back to David, his face was closer to hers and his eyes level with hers. Again, she could feel her cheeks reddening. David had the prettiest brown eyes she’d ever seen. Most definitely. Distracted, again, it took her a moment to answer. What was she to say anyway? Without sounding too eager? Bashful nudged her and the answer spilled from her lips, as if it’d been ready all the time. “That sounds like a perfect fir—” she bit down on her tongue to shut up. She did not want to let him know this was her first date. Clarissa gave him a smile and wished she could think of something else to say. “Uhm…” Clarissa leaned back and glanced to a nearby clock. “My shift is over soon.” Clarissa looked back and smiled. “7:30, right?” Because if she ended up late, that would be downright mortifying.
