Bashful just kept talking. He was such a chatterbox. Clarissa had a migraine almost 24/7. It was outrageous. At least school was out. But, of course, she’d signed up for Summer School classes. Wow. Bashful had not been pleased about that. He’d whined about it for an hour, telling her how she’d thrown away the perfect time to socialize. She’d tried to calm him down, insisting that it was early in the morning until about two in the afternoon. That still left plenty of time to… socialize. But then he had reminded her that she had work. Which she had waved off, telling him that her hours weren’t that bad. Until, somehow, they started scheduling her for weekdays and longer shifts over the weekend. Clarissa had been meaning to talk to Marnie or Mitch but after Disney… well, it was a long story. And she was wracked with guilt. It was so overwhelming. She was glad to have Bashful and her school work distracting her at least. But those few minutes before she fell asleep, every night, she’d remember what she’d done at Disney.
The little bell of the door rang and Clarissa looked up from the filing cabinet she was perusing. “SNEEZY!!!!!!!!!!
[/I]” Bashful screamed, jabbing his finger towards whoever had just walked in. Clarissa jumped, hitting her hip on the desk beside her. “ Ow! Bashful! Hush!” she hissed, rubbing what would surely be a bruise. She looked to the door, following Bashful’s frenzied pointing. “ David?” she questioned, looking to the blonde beside her with raised eyebrows. She still wasn’t used to his height. Why was he so tall? Bashful had been a dwarf, right? “ Clairbear, dear, go talk to him before I take over and do it myself![/I]” Bashful had told her that, if he wanted, he could take the drivers’ seat and talk for her among other things. This horrified her and so she closed the cabinet and hurried towards David. “ Hi David,” she murmured, peeking up at him. Any other day, she would have kept her gaze down or looked at him through her bangs. But no. Bashful had made her tie her hair back and part the bangs to the side. It was weird. David was taller than her, too. By at least a foot. Clarissa peered over to Bashful, who stood beside her, and realized that David was taller than even him. Goodness. “ What brings you here today?” Bashful was hovering beside her, still staring at David with wide eyes. It was starting to annoy her. words; 421 notes; d'aww outfit; voila[/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

David, as usual, was in the best of moves. He had sat awake for the majority of the night, thinking. Yes, thinking...of how to get rid of his freaking headache. Even thinking about it now, when it was barely there, made him wince.
But he was going to the Make a Wish Foundation, to do some whatevers but mostly to see Clarissa. His felt his whole face soften, and his mind relax.
It never did that.
David sighed and shook his head. He could only talk to Clarissa. She deserved someone better then him...and someone...- he forced himself to say the words in his head- healthier. And he was bitter and angry and tired and sick.
Yeah, what a great existence.
David was back to scowling in no-time, but he still had to keep it in check. Clarissa didn't like people unhappy. Plus, he needed that money for the new meds. Why did he keep taking them, anyway? There wasn't hope. Everyone had told him that.
He coughed gently as he looked up at the potruding letters of the sign. Here goes nothing. As he entered, a bell rang, bringing a stab of pain above his eyebrow. Yay, headahe back.
“Hi David,”
David smiled wonderously at her. She looked...stunning. And even looked him in the eyes. And look, the headache was already drifting.
“What brings you here today?”
He hoped his grin didn't look as goofy as he thought it did. "You know, the usual. I'm here for some meds," He hoped he sounded charming. He hoped he didn't scare her off.
Where the hell did all this hope come from?
Not only was that distracting, but Clarissa didn't seem entirely...present. She glanced to her side, and his eyes followed, scanning with no avail. Maybe she was checking if it was clean? He shrugged it off. David just liked being here. He didn't like a lot.

Bashful was prodding her in the shoulder, this annoying thing he did when he was freaking out. It was like he couldn’t believe what was happening so he just poked/hit her until she told him to knock it off. In fact, she would have told him to stop by now but they weren’t alone. David was here to get some medicine, evidently. Clarissa had been working at the Make a Wish Foundation for awhile. The day she found out how sick David was had been a shock. She’d always thought of him as this tough kid in her History class who stood up to anybody and everybody. It made her heart ache, knowing that he was unwell. “Really?” she asked, her tone teasing. “That’s all? You didn’t come to see me?” Jeez, where had that come from? Bashful laughed. It was so his fault.
Clarissa gestured for him to follow, leading the way to the filing cabinet she’d just closed. Clarissa was glad to be such a workaholic. If she weren’t, then she never would have remembered all of this. This cabinet held the folders of all the… customers? Patients? She wasn’t quite sure what word to use. Bashful was no longer hovering over her shoulder but now trying to get David’s attention. Clarissa rolled her eyes, a grin on her lips. Flipping through the folders, she found ‘David Schuyler’ and pulled it out, thumbing through the papers. Paperwork already filled out for the most part. But she, thinking ahead, had put blank sheets into the folders as well. It just made things easier in general. Why stumble around, looking for papers when they could be together just like this? Clarissa pulled the paperwork out and set it down on top of the cabinet. “You know the drill, yeah?” she asked, grabbing a pen and handing it to him.
Clarissa offered a kind smile, trying to ignore Bashful. He was whispering in her ear now, asking her to ask David about Snow White. So obnoxious! She just wanted to tell him to hush! “You can talk to me through thoughts, y’know, darling.
[/I]” . . . ‘ Bashful. Shut up. Please.’ He laughed and she had to resist the urge to scoff. words; 421 notes; i love david. so much. xD outfit; voila[/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

“Really?” David had literally never heard Clarissa be so flirty. Ever. “That’s all? You didn’t come to see me?”
He held back the dopey grin and replied, "Of course I came here to see you. Wait, did you actually think I was sick?" He let his face drop, as if shocked, but then quickly pieced it back together so he held his normal smile.
David followed Clarissa, but something was bothering him on the outer corner of his consciousness. Like when you knew you left the burner on at home. Well, he suspected that would be the feeling. He rarely cooked. Who needs a stove when you have a microwave? He gazed around one more time, checking for the thing that was bothering him. Nothin'.
Clarissa handed David the papers. His hand already hurt as he thought of filling it out. Shoot. “You know the drill, yeah?” He nodded absently and started to work, glancing up now and again to stare at her.
Yeah, he was that obvious.
"You seem...different..." said David. "I mean, not in a bad way...just..." He couldn't describe it. She just felt more firmiliar.
After listing his family, his mouth was caught between a smile and a frown. "Hey, did you know I have a sister?" He nearly chuckled at the thought of Catie. He missed her. David missed everyone. A hand went to his heart at its sudden aching and he took a deep breath.
He either really needed those meds or he was taking heartache to a wholenew level. Before Clarissa could do anything, David pursed his lips and closed his eyes. "I'm fine," His words were weak. Ack. It would pass, it always does. Eventually.

Clarissa wanted Bashful to hush. She wanted him to stop being so… visible. ‘You’re distracting,’ she thought, giving him a subtle glare. He laughed, “ask him about Snow White and I’ll go away!
[/I]” Ugghhhhh. Bashhffuuuullllll. Clarissa took a step back, sitting down on the chair at the desk. She perched on the edge of it, not looking to get comfortable. She knew she’d be filing the paperwork and then heading to the back room soon, anyway. “ Sooooo,” she started, trying to figure out how she could word this. Thank goodness, though, he cut in with his own observation. Clarissa laughed. It was nice, being this open and outgoing. As terrified as she’d been, Clarissa was glad for Bashful. She actually sort of had a life now. She wasn’t afraid to laugh aloud, she wasn’t worried what… okay, that was a lie. She still worried what other people thought. “ All part of the process, darling,[/I]” Bashful told her for what was perhaps the twentieth time. He ruffled her hair before motioning towards David. Right. She needed to say something. “ Thank you,” she managed, a shy smile gracing her lips. Compliments were still difficult to accept. Clarissa’s eyebrows rose slightly and she nodded slowly. Of course she knew David had a sister. “ Catie,” she murmured before realizing just how weird that could be. Why would she know his sister’s name? “ I-I mean… Wow, that’s k-kind of creepy isn’t it?” she stuttered, letting her gaze fall. “ Uhm, I just… y’know, I’ve seen y-you’re paperwork be-before…” Oh no, why was she stuttering?! She hadn’t stuttered in forever! Bashful, your plan is failing! He scoffed and rolled his eyes. “ No way, doll, my plans never fail. You just totally like him, hun.[/I]” Clarissa, if she weren’t already blushing, certainly was now. Clarissa, in her frenzied state, nearly missed David’s words. She looked up, saw a hand at his heart and his expression. She jumped up from her seat, asking just as he spoke, “ are you okay?!” Clarissa shook her head, trying to think of something she could do. “ You don’t sound fine, sweetheart. Do you want some water?” Whoa. Wait. Sweetheart?! Where had that come from! The blonde beside her laughed. . . . Ugh! David, though in pain, loved how adorable Clarissa was when she stuttered. Adorable. Bleh. He never uses that word, ever.
“Are you okay?!”
"No, seriously. Claire..." He hated how fully his face flushed after that. He was dizzy. Stupid...whatever. David had the extreme urge to bang his head against the desk. It would be so much better then the pain he was feeling.
“You don’t sound fine, sweetheart. Do you want some water?”
David was curious of the look that danced across her face after that. Embarassment, confusion, anger? He couldn't understand. Plus, thinking hurt.
With his hands shaking, he grabbed her arm. Maybe a bit harder then he meant to. "No, please. Just stay here," He gasped. His hand moved down from her arm to her hand, and he just held it. His body swayed back and forth, the rythm helping.
"Please," He mumbled. "Please,"
David's rage flexed through him. He was so weak. He was so needy. The pain was subsiding, but his failure wasn't.
"Th-thank you," He managed quickly. Easing back into his chair and letting go of her her hand. His fingers still shook as he picked up the pen and his eyes struggled out to make out the words, and his lungs struggled to make out his breath. "Where were we?" David's begged Clarissa with his gaze to let it go. It was almost daring, as if seeing if she would.
It wasn't like she could help him, anyway.

Bashful seemed unconcerned which infuriated Clarissa. How dare he not be worried! He ruffled her hair and began to explain in an obnoxious know-it-all tone, “Clarissa, dear, you knew he was sick. Do you think this is rare? It’s not like he’s only in pain when he’s around you. Plus, he’s the reincarnate of Sneezy. I’m not really surprised.” His rational speaking annoyed her but she ignored the feelings (and him for the time being) to focus on David. She never really knew what to do when somebody was hurting in front of her. How could she relate? She couldn’t and that’s where she wished ever more that she could do something. What, though? His hand around her arm startled her and she tried to focus again, disappointed that she’d lost herself in her thoughts. Clarissa nodded a few times, nibbling down on her lower lip. Please be okay, please be okay,’ she thought repeatedly. She held onto his hand, gently rubbing circles on the skin with her thumb.
A few minutes later, he’d sat down and let go of her hand. She finally stopped biting her lip and she slowly sat as well, cautious. Bashful’s arms were folded over his chest and he was watching David carefully, as if trying to figure something out. “Your sister,” Clarissa answered quietly, managing what she hoped to be a warm smile. She had a feeling that it was forced but she didn’t know. She couldn’t see her smile, now could she? “Your smile is fine, doll.” Oh. Phew. “Catie. What’s she like?” Clarissa asked, hoping that his sister wasn’t the reason for the pain he’d just felt. She’d hate to be talking about what hurt him.

David could see how upset his episode made Clarissa. Why did it have to happen now? In front of her. Poor Clarissa. But...he kept hearing this buzzing...no like muffled talking. But that couldn't be right. The walls were pretty thick, right? And he could feel a hand on his should, easing his pain. Like it knew.
It knew how he felt.
That couldn't be right. That would mean the pain was really getting to his head.
“Catie. What’s she like?”
David chuckled, but it came out kind of wheezy. "She's the biggest drama queen you'll ever meet. She somehow not only talked our parents into getting her a good phone at ten, but she also used to convince me into doing her chores," He shook his head with a warm smile. Catie. He missed her. "I don't see her a lot...I don't visit home much." TMI, TMI, TMI. Even he knew that was too much.
"Are...the walls thin? I keep hearing..." David trailed off, staring at the wall. Aw, damnit, was he getting all spiritual and shit? He looked directly above Clarissa, he knew something was there.
He snapped back to reality. "Catie's great, but she doesn't know how bad I am. So if you call, and some girl answers, just ask her to have her parents call back, okay?" His voice was suddenly full of authority. "She can't know." His eyes wavered as he looked at her, something was wrong. Something was definitely wrong.
"Is...anyone else working here today?" David narrowed his eyes and looked behind the counter.
notes: sooo...david is sensing bashful, and sneezy is feeling bad for him. he's not gonna awaken yet, but i was hoping it could be with clarissa, or maybe snow white?! and then he'd go and find her and be like...woah.

Bashful inhaled sharply but Clarissa ignored him, listening carefully to David. He still sounded like he was in pain but she didn’t want to make it worse by freaking out at him. That would not help the situation. “Clarissa, I think I can---” ‘Hush,’ she thought to Bashful, mentally waving him off. He scoffed and sent her some annoyed vibes before leaning against the desk. “A drama queen, huh? My roomie is just like that.” Clarissa felt a little better, like she could relate to him. But, really, she couldn’t, could she? She tilted her head to the side just a bit, her smile turning into a curious frown. “Why not?” she asked, “home is where the heart is.” It was hypocritical of her to say that. Ever since her parents went on that stupid trip without her, she’d done her best to avoid home. It was so empty, to quiet.
Clarissa followed David’s gaze and saw that he was staring right at Bashful. She narrowed her eyes at the blonde and he held his hands up in innocence. “He shouldn’t be able to see me, doll. It’s not my fault.” David spoke before Clarissa could think back in reply and she turned back to him, trying to once again ignore Bashful. She nodded slowly, letting David know she understood. She would hate to upset him, after all, and besides, Clarissa didn’t want to be the one to let his little sister know how sick her big brother was. “Are you almost done wi---” she paused as David spoke. Again, she looked to where he was looking. ‘Bashful! Stop being so visible!’ Bashful stood up and wandered from the counter to Clarissa’s side. “Why? It’ll be good if Sneezy wakes up. Then we’re, as I said earlier, one step closer to finding Snow White.” Clarissa wanted to hit him. Which was strange; she never had the want to hit a person. ‘Everything isn’t about Snow White, okay? Seriously, we’ll find her when we find her.’
What was she going to do? Did she want to tell David about Bashful? That would be strange, it wouldn’t make sense, he’d probably never talk to her again. She wouldn’t talk to a person if they said such nonsense things either. “No. I mean, not out here. I’m sure there’s somebody in the back, filing papers.” There, that answer should be good enough. Besides, Bashful didn’t work here. She wasn’t flat out lying which was reassuring.

A warm feeling spread through David at the mention of Catie and her drama. It was that icy feeling after you drank cold water, but warm and...happy. But it was quickly gone. Home is where the heart is? Did his parents even have hearts? He nearly snorted aloud, but just nodded. He might as well tell her.
"I don't go home a lot because my parents lied to me about how sick I was. A doctor had to pull me aside and tell me I was gonna die. That's why I left." The were just flowed out of him, deadpan as can be. They were all statements, no bitter bite on the end, no tears. Just the facts, David always checked the facts. He hated to make Clarissa upset, she would surely be upset. Maybe.
And that's why he shouldn't like her. He would bring her pain and disaster.
David watched as Clarissa got distracted, on of her eyebrows twitching like she was fighting with herself. Clarissa was not nut, so this obviously meant something. Her eyes kept flitting to where he was gazing at where he felt the...energy?- that sounded too paranormal. Where he was looking.
“No. I mean, not out here. I’m sure there’s somebody in the back, filing papers.”
David nodded slowly, and something clicked in his mind. But he wasn't sure what it was. Everything just felt...clearer. "Clarissa..." He cleared his throat. "it's been really nice talking to you." He tried to ignore the hotness he felt in his cheeks and averted her gaze, staring down at the paper he had to fill out. Still. He needed them meds. He quickly jotted down some random easy answers, then peaked up at her. You're an idiot, keep talking. "I, uh, mean that we should hang more," That sounded hideous. "in not such, er, depressing places?" That wasn't supposed to be a question. He ducked his head and scribbled more.
Dang.

Clarissa was trying to ignore everything Bashful was doing. He had gone back to trying to get David’s attention which seemed like a waste of time. David had obviously already noticed Bashful which annoyed her. Couldn’t she have a conversation with a person without OBNOXIOUS DISTRACTIONS? ‘Uncool, doll.’ Clarissa almost laughed but that would be strange, wouldn’t it? Oh, what are you laughing at? The immature tall kid who’s bothering you, that’s all. ‘I’m not immature, Clairbear!’ ‘You are so immature! Look at you!’ He was currently waving his arms in front of David’s face. She wanted to reach forward and just pull him away but she wasn’t quite sure if she could actually grab him. Note to self: test that.
David started to speak and for a moment, she was confused. Oh! He was saying something in response to her ironic ‘home is where the heart is.’ She was missing her parents quite a lot right now… His parents lied to him? That’s awful… She couldn’t imagine it, she didn’t want to. “You’re not going to die.” The words were out of her mouth before she could help it and her expression was fierce. She knew it and she could feel it, this absolute determination to keep David alive. “That doctor doesn’t know a thing,” she added, looking down to her hands. She’d clasped them together to keep from fidgeting but it wasn’t working. “You’re not going to die,” she repeated in a quiet murmur.
‘You totally like him, hun.’ Clarissa shook her head a little bit, biting down on her lower lip. She wasn’t sure if she could believe that. There was Elliot to consider, after all… Keeping her gaze lowered, she tried to forget anything Bashful was doing or saying, she tried to clear her mind so she could think clearly. Stupid emotions. Clarissa peeked up at him, wishing her hair wasn’t clipped back. She wanted so badly to hide behind it right now. A tiny smile made its way on her lips and she nodded. “That would be nice.” Clarissa wondered why she was so terrible at socializing before remembering that, duh, until quite recently, she hadn’t socialized at all.

David had that weird feeling when someone was watching you, or in your personal space. Neither he liked, but none of those things seemed to be happening. He kept trying to concentrate, but the weird prickly feeling plus the light-headedness after the headache was making that hard.
“You’re not going to die.”
The laugh jerked out of him. It wasn't funny. Nosiree. But no one had ever told him that. Not with such definition. He held up a hand.
"I'm not laughing at you, I swear." Hadn't he just done this? He was such an idiot. "Like...there's no way to stop it." He pursed his lips and listened to her. It was comforting to know someone wasn't just waiting for him to fall off the earth.
“That doctor doesn’t know a thing,”
This statements was like a burn in his stomach, cooling off the bitterness. It spread it's way through out him, spreading through him like a tide. Global warming whisking away all of the glaciers in his heart.
“You’re not going to die,”
And, crack. Just like that. He was happy. He was light. As long as he had Clarissa, he didn't need any drugs pumping through him to subside the cold clench on his heart.
David stared at her hands. They were knotted up, fixed together. Before he could think himself out of it, he untwined one and pressed his lips to it.
"Thank you, Clarissa." The words carried the weight of his feelings on them, but he felt like the burden was gone. He released her hands, realizing how cold his were.
“That would be nice.”
David felt his own warm smile splatter his face, reaching all the way to his eyes. "Perfect! Now let's get these papers done." He said, jotting down more answers.
Somewhere inside of him, something was pouting...It was peculiar.

Clarissa’s heart was pounding. Her cheeks were bright red, she just knew it!, and she was feeling terribly self-conscious. She wasn’t quite sure where her words had come from, honestly. Part of her wanted to blame Bashful since she already blamed him for so many other things. But that never got her anywhere. She had to own up to what she was doing whether she liked it or not. Like at Disney. . . A sudden laugh pulled her from her thoughts and she looked up at David, eyebrows knitting together. What was so funny?! Biting down on her lower lip, she clasped her hands together tighter and tried to believe what he was saying. Was he not laughing at her? She hoped so…
Bashful had disappeared sometime during her avoidance with looking up. She wasn’t quite sure where he had gone. Clarissa couldn’t really feel his presence around her, like he was there, just not visible, and she couldn’t feel him in her head. Wow, that just sounded so strange. Glancing around slightly, Clarissa tried finding him and still had no luck. There was suddenly a cold hand on hers and she looked down just as David kissed her hand. Her cheeks burned and she knew she was blushing but the butterflies erupting in her stomach made everything all better. She was feeling to many emotions!
“You’re welcome,” the words came out as a soft squeak and she cleared her throat, blushing all the more. Oh, this was embarrassing. Where was Bashful to reassure her?! “I’m right here, doll, calm down.” He was suddenly beside her and she gave a tiny shriek before covering her mouth with her hands. Bashful laughed and ruffled her hair. “Wow, you must be mortified.” She could feel her face, she could tell how scared she looked. What was David going to think to that? Shaking her head, she forced a smile and lowered her hands. “Yeah, right… That would be good…” She glanced to the clock and saw her shift would be over in about an hour. Great, what was she going to do then?

Yee gads. David was such an idiot. He'd made Clarissa nervous and self-conscious...well, more so. Now he was avoiding her eyes, her face, her. But that satisfied smile was still on his face, and he couldn't get it to disappear.
“You’re welcome,”
The flurries of nervousness errupted in his stomach. His hand shook as he wrote down more answer. David still couldn't bare to look at her.
Maybe just a peek.
When he did, her face was bright red. Her eyes were wide and alert. She was beautiful. Not just pretty or cute...beautiful. It left him out of breath. All he wanted to do was find some excuse to get close to her, to talk to her.
But he couldn't. David had pushed the line already.
Sadly, his paperwork was almost done.
"Yeah, right… That would be good…”
David swallowed. Shit. He'd scared her. Definitely. Fustration clouded his eyes. Why couldn't he just be...right? Be normal? He sighed. Then regretted it. He wasn't sighing at her! Aghhh.
His eyes shot up and he was momentarily shocked when they met her. David swallowed again.
"What made you want to work here?" His tongue was heavy and he was scared that dreaded lisp he imagined he had might be real. His hands clammed up.

David was making her nervous, yes. David was making her self-conscious, yes. It was embarrassing because she’d been avoiding these feelings for so long now. But… Clarissa didn’t mind. It felt good to be acting as she used to. It was familiar, comfortable. … Being with David was making her comfortable. It made her surprisingly happy and she was suddenly aware of everything. She was away of her own beating heart, of her smile, of the brightness of the room. Clarissa was aware of Bashful, of the odd looks he was giving her, of his every emotion, of his mere presence. And, most importantly, she was aware of David. She was blissfully aware of the boy before her, perfect and handsome and endearing. She knew, she knew, she knew. Clarissa knew, suddenly, how she felt and it was invigorating.
“We should do something later. My shift is over soon.” The words came easily, swiftly. Never had she spoken words this smoothly. She knew what she wanted, what she deserved. She could feel the pride radiating off of Bashful like waves. She knew this is what he’d been hoping for, what his teaching would give her. Confidence. This was what it was like to be confident. “We could go bowling.” Absentmindedly pulling a hand through her hair, Clarissa glanced down at David’s paperwork; he was nearly finished. Looking up from the papers, her eyes met his and she beamed at him. Confidence, confidence, confidence. “My friend Becky works here. She told me about it and it just sounded… amazing. I mean, helping people get their wishes. It’s like magic.” She gave a tiny shrug. “I’m a workaholic… or, well, when I started I was. At first, I just wanted more to do. Now, I couldn’t imagine my life without Make a Wish.” Clarissa paused and laughed. “That sounds so scripted.” Clarissa shook her head and ignored Bashful when he patted her on the shoulder.
