personality Drake is kind of your generic druggie in high school. The one that's just barely passing most of his classes and is failing the rest. He really doesn't care for the city
past Drake was once an innocent little kid, like so many crazy druggies were. He was raised in Mystic, Connecticut, right on the ocean front. He grew up running around in the sand and the salty air and sea. He loved every single bit of it, really connecting with the oceanfront and feeling like it was the only home he would ever know. As he got older, his father would take him out on their sailing ship further and further out into the ocean front. Drake was enthralled by the majesty and beauty of the sea, the wind whipping across his body. It was all so...astounding.
When Drake was eight years old, his school made their annual trip to the mystic Aquarium. Though it was so close, Drake had never been there before, opting instead to enjoy the animals of the natural shore. Everything was going (teehee) swimmingly until his class group came to one of the last animal tanks. The crocodile tanks. As was heralded in the banners and the signs all around the aquarium, this was one of the newest additions, having just acquired the so-called magnificent animals.
Drake was at first as amazed by the powerful creatures as he was by the ocean, standing as close to the glass as possible and pressing his face up against the glass to get a better view. Then it all unfolded so fast he barely had time to register what was going on. It all began with a roar, a roar like an angry thunderstorm rolling in off the coast, whipping waves around like crazy. Then there was a flash of green and brown starting as only a dot in the watery blue and then getting bigger and bigger at an obscene rate until it became apparent as the raging, speeding head of one of the beasts charging straight towards the glass of the underwater viewing area.
With a deafening crash, the monster slammed against the glass, not breaking it but causing enough noise and frightening visuals to send the crowd of third graders into a chaotic uproar. Drake spun backwards, trying desperately to get away from the roaring, enormous creature that had been so beautiful from afar but was absolutely terrifying when so close. Falling, Drake awkwardly threw out his hands without really knowing whether it was to break his fall or to try to claw his way through the air to get further away.
With a sickening CRACK his left hand hit the cod, hard cement first and bent in a way it never had done before. All his fingers curled in much further than they ever should have. He lay there for about an hour without a teacher comng back for him, curled on the ground and transfixed by the terrifying, snapping monster in close-up, separated only by a wall of crystal clear glass.
When he was finally remembered it was discovered that he had broken every one of his fingers on the left hand, which would never heal correctly. This left him with a crippled left hand that would never open up from a curled cup. He was crushed, never being able to operate a sailing ship with such a hindrance.
To add insult to injury, within a year his father died, a drowning victim in the midst of a nor'easter storm. With no way to support herself, Mama Sterling was forced to gather the remains of her things and move with Drake to live with family in a small apartment. Wrenched away from all he ever knew, with no father and no hand he became introverted for a while but quickly responded to it all with anger and nonchalant withdrawal.
present Drake's mother is remarried now, to a wealthy wall-street fat cat. Though drake tends to hate him wth a burning passion it was HIS money that was able to put Drake in the top-botch private school and send him away to be a boarder there. As previously stated, he's doing pretty darn poorly in school but hasn't managed to flunk out...yet.
Every weekend he makes it a point to go to the shooting range in the area. He thinks of it as a necessary skill when you're living in the city ( though not really in the high society part he's trapped in) and plus it's just fun as hell. He's also been taking lessons in fencing ever since they moved to New York, his mom thinking it necessary for him to see how the hand he still had control of could be useful. He also makes it a point to try and get out in the water in his very own boat (motorized, he still can't handle a sail ship all on his own with a crippled let hand)
Drake's found a girlfriend in New York, Veronica. She shares some of the same qualities as he does and doesn't really seem to mind the hand thing. That, the hot body and the fact that she might occasionally light up with him and she's the perfect girl.

...literature*
book title Peter Pan by J M Barrie
backstory For those of you who lived under rocks as children, Captain Hook is the terrifying, piratey archenemy of Peter Pan, the latter having chopped off his right hand and feeding it to a monstrous crocodile which then made its life goal to hunt down the pirate. Theres also the little fact that since he was trapped in eternal kids world ( NeverLand) he made it his goal in life to torture the lost boys and *cough* Native Neverlandians on the island.

rp sample " I really am just too good of a girlfriend."
This was Audrey's sole thought as she pullup to the curb outside her boyfriend's house. Honestly, she could NOT think of anyone else who could rival her in terms of care given to her boyfriend. She was just a perfect person! When her boyfriend was sick she overcame her own personal fears to make sure he was alright. She had to admit, she was a bit sad that they couldn't actually go to the carnival tonight. She had planned it especially so that it would be a good time for Seaton, having it on the beach right where he loved to be. Audrey couldn't pretend to be a beach bunny ocean lover like Seaton, but she respected his love of it.
Looking into the small pile she'd made in the passenger seat she made sure she had all the things she needed. Yup, it was ALL there. Her small thermos of specially made chicken noodle soup to include a full serving of three of the food groups and a full serving of vitamin A, along with a nice, soft electric blanket to help him keep warm ( Though if all went well SHE would be the one filling that need), a thermometer( of course), a bottle of Zicam and Aleve, and her own hospital mask to make sure she herself didn't get sick. It was all so nice and perfect and clean and great. She knew that there wasn't a single other girl within a 60 mile radius of the city that could be just so overwhelmingly NICE for her boyfriend ( For one thing, none of them had the extensive medical training she herself possessed).
Walking up to the front door she pulled the light blue mask over her face and snapped the elastic behind her ear, holding the other things in a bag hanging off her arm. She paused for a second before going in, remembering that she needed to be stealthily quiet in case he was asleep. She would be sneaky and go in quiet as a snake so as not to rouse him.
