personality At first glance, Jesse is nothing out of the ordinary. Excluding the fact that the majority of his clothing consists of pink and light blue colors complemented with excessive jewelry and genteel footwear, he seems like a quite normal (if abundantly attractive) fifteen-year-old boy. However, if you’re lucky enough to witness his mouth opening in preparation for a song, you’ll realize how far from normal he truly is.
Jesse has a fiery passion for anything pertaining to drama and the theatrical arts. Dancing and singing are his idols, his escapes, his therapies, his world. Jesse has memorized every musical to ever appear on Broadway, from Oklahoma to Avenue Q, and is not afraid to flaunt this fact as ostentatiously as humanly possible. He displays his musical inclinations wherever he goes, to whomever he sees.
The most outstanding facet of Jesse’s character is his sheer jubilance. Jesse practically radiates optimism, with no qualms, scruples, or regrets. No matter your sexuality, status in life, looks, or personality, if you talk to Jesse, he’s automatically your ‘BFFL!’
past Welcome to Worcester Massachusetts, a city of crime and commandment, where the streetlights at night illuminate black, thinly stretched fishnets, long, scraggly fingernails and empty bottles piled with the dust and grime of the working class. Alicia Leslie stares into the cracked mirror plastered haphazardly to the wall of her sooty, graffitied apartment building, vainly scrubbing her face of the dirt of the day’s work and the sweat of the night’s. A tap on her shoulder alerts her to the presence of a tall, cloaked man gazing forward serenely from behind gleaming brown eyes.
“I knew you’d come.” Her voice, strong and defiant like a soldier’s drawl.
“Did you?” A sinister chortle.
The cold of the brick building jerks itself between her shoulder blades, his gloved hands grasping hurriedly at the crooks of her shoulders.
And nine months later, Jesse Leslie.
For lack of a better word, Jesse was ‘raised’ in the heart of Manhattan. Since his mother spent most of her days lingering on the street corners of the borough armed with blue eyeshadow and skimpy skirts, Jesse often took to exploring the metropolis within the metropolis: Broadway. Jesse learned to love Broadway, and though he could never afford tickets to the extravagant musicals, he often pressed his ear up to the side of the building, bobbing his head slightly to the beat of the music inside. From these ventures sprouted his irrational love for the theatrical arts.
It was at a Lindy Hop lesson, while learning the intricate technique of the Spot Turn Cowboy Style, that Jesse met the love of his life, Bobino Velazquez. The two have been inseparable since their first acquaintance and share, along with their passion for Broadway, many common personality traits.
present If you’re looking for Jesse Leslie, you’ll probably find him either attending a Broadway show, working extra hours at Down the Rabbit Hole to save up for tickets to said shows, gallivanting merrily through the streets of New York City, or singing loudly at the top of his lungs at Baum Academy. Don’t be surprised to hear an eccentric rendition of “Look to the Rainbow” or “Castle on a Cloud” emanating from the Biology classroom.
Jesse is also a proud member of The Happy Homo Hooligans, a multi-genre band consisting of himself, Bob Velazquez, and Patrick Dickinson. This is a widely-known, popular musical group acclaimed for their variations and medleys on popular Broadway show tunes. They are also known for riding scooters wherever they need to go, including between classes. In addition to his musical endeavors Jesse is the leader of the religion ‘Broadwayism’ (which he also created). This is a sect of atheism which believes that there is no God, only Broadway. They gather every Thursday at 5:29 to worship the all-powerful entity known only as Broadway. Jesse has written several prayers and hymns which are medleys of popular Broadway shows. His latest includes the main themes of “On My Own” from Les Miserables, “Welcome to the Sixties” from Hairspray, “No Good Deed” from Wicked, “Written in the Stars” from Aida, and “Joanna” from Sweeney Todd.
