Kylie loved this time of year for many reasons.
1) It was sunny. 2) It wasn’t winter. 3) It was warm. 4) It wasn’t cold. 5) Everything was green and beautiful.
Yes, springtime was her absolute favorite time of the year! Instead of having to be cooped up inside during wintertime on her breaks, she could be wandering around campus, feeling like a nature enthusiast or something. Well, maybe that wasn’t the best way to describe it. Oh, it’s not like she needed a way to describe how she was feeling. Kylie could just as well use words like “wonderful,” and “warm,” and “bright.” Yes, those words worked just as well as nature enthusiast. In fact, they worked better! She was almost too much of an optimist; it often lead to naïve mistakes or immature beliefs. Kylie didn’t stop believing in Santa Claus until she was eleven, much later than most kids she knew, all whom insisted that he wasn’t real. It wasn’t until the Christmas of her eleventh year that Kylie caught her grandparents putting the presents under the tree. Needless to say, it hadn’t been a very happy morning.
The courtyard at Baum made it very obvious that it was springtime. All of the trees were green and there were patches of flowers set about and students were lounging on the benches or in the shade of trees that were green. Well, not the trunks, of course! Those were brown. Why, Kylie wasn’t quite sure why she was wandering around the courtyard. Then again, it was her free period. Kylie was rather surprised to have had a free period her sophomore year but she was taking all of her required classes so she had no reason to complain. It meant getting caught up on her work (which she hated to do, no matter what time of the day), enjoying the lovely weather, or taking a nice nap. Oh, a nap sounded lovely right now. In fact, that boy over there looked like he was about to fall asleep in his book. Perhaps she should go over and warn him that he was much too drowsy to be studying. She was sure he wouldn’t mind.
Kylie approached the boy, unable to help skipping half the way. As she got closer, Kylie slowly came to realize that he had a wonderful head of hair. … Oh dear, that was a very strange thought. Well, unless she considered herself to be a hair stylist. It wasn’t so weird then. Still, a compliment never hurt anybody. Kylie stopped beside him, her eyes adjusting to the darkness of the shade. She bent over, one hand on her knee, the other moving to ruffle his hair. “I really like your hair.” She commented, absent-mindedly, not at all aware of all the personal space rules she was breaking. “It’s very soft.” Kylie pulled away and dropped to her knees, glancing to the book he’d been studying from. “You were dozing off, by the way. I think you’re much too sleepy to be studying.” Kylie nodded as if she knew all about studying and sleeping (she sort of did) before smiling at him kindly.
notes; lolomg she doesn't know what personal space is i swear words; 528 outfit; until i make one, we'll say a dress :3

Max inhaled deeply, taking in the scent of the fresh grass and spring air. It was so stupid that the teachers even gave tests this late in the year. They knew nobody could focus when there was sunlight and warmth outside. Nevertheless, he had his books with him. Should he actually study? Probably. Would he, though, was the question. It was too nice out to study and not feel guilty about it. Who could sit outside focusing on the drudgery of Pre-Calculus when there was like, the best time of year for being outside pulling at your thoughts? He did try - kind of - to focus on math. But really. It was too nice out not to take advantage of the weather and just relax.
He left his book open in his lap, so he could at least say he'd tried. The breeze lifted his hair out of his face. He smiled, closing his eyes and resting his chin in his hand. This was the time of year when his inner hippy showed itself. Max just loved the feeling of falling asleep outside. Because it was like, when you woke up, it was just so great. Just like, you kind of wondered at first where you were, because you're still sitting on the grass in the middle of a bunch of people, and then you realize that you're outside and it's warm enough to just sleep forever or even just lay there in the grass soaking it all in. Yeah, it was nice.
It should probably worry him that he was always so exhausted that he could just fall asleep whenever. Granted, math did make him even more tired than usual; it was just boring. But seriously, who cares? If he wanted to stay up late and let himself be tired, he could. He sighed, feeling the heat of the sun on his back as sat on the cool grass. But when Max felt something on his head, he opened his eyes.
"I really like your hair. It's very soft."
There was a girl... touching his hair? That totally wasn't weird. Nope, not a bit. He'd seen this girl around school, she was always smiling and almost obnoxiously happy. She was cute, probably not the sharpest arrow in the quiver though. Personal space didn't seem to exist for her right now, considering he'd never talked to the chick before and she was rubbing his head. At least this somewhat strange encounter was more interesting than his math textbook.
"Uh, hey?" He was about to reach up and pull her hand off of his head, but she pulled away before he had to.
"You were dozing off, by the way. I think you’re much too sleepy to be studying."
"Oh, uh, yeah," he said. "I know. I wasn't really trying to study." He laughed, leaning back and resting on his elbows. "I was kind of about to take a nap or something. It's so nice out today, y'know?" He held out his hand to shake hers. "Max, by the way."

It wasn’t until after she’d leaned back had Kylie realized that there was such a thing as personal space, and that most people did not like this bubble to be intruded on. Oops. Oh, he surely would hate her now, even if she had complimented him. Plus, she’d woke him up from what would probably have been a lovely nap. Oh dear. It would be best to apologize. He didn’t seem to mind too terribly, though. Confused, yes, but not angry. Kylie glanced to the book he’d been studying from. Math. Oh, that was just dreadful! There mustn’t be a soul on Earth who liked Math. Without giving it a second thought, Kylie reached over and closed the book rather forcefully. There was no need to be studying that nonsense on such a wonderful day. “I don’t think you should worry about it.” She told him as if she were right all the time.
She nodded quite happily, agreeing fully. It was nice out. Then again, it was spring time and it was always nice out during spring time. “Well, that’s good to know. I wouldn’t even want to try. I mean—” she paused as he introduced himself. Kylie shook his hand. “Kylie, by the way.” Because for some reason, she had a desire to mimic him. Picking up her previous train of thought, Kylie continued: “if you really wanted to study, you’d be inside right?” She glanced back towards the school as if to prove her point, where there were probably study groups going on in the library right this very moment. What an awful way to spend your free class period.

Max raised an eyebrow at her introduction. She was either mocking him or just... well, mocking him. At first he couldn't tell if she meant it maliciously or not, but when she continued, he decided she probably didn't mean anything by it. He looked around at the rest of the courtyard. Of all the people relaxing on the grass, she'd chosen him to come over to and... do whatever it was she had done just a moment ago. Petted his head, disturbed his sleep, tried to make friends... depending how you thought of it.
"Yeah, I guess I probably would be," he laughed. He stood up and tossed his math textbook back into his bag, slinging it over his shoulder. Avoiding the dandelions that had were beginning to bloom in the grass, he took a step closer to Kylie. "You're hair is pretty soft too, you know," he said as he tugged at a blond curl, messing up her hair.
He started walking, looking back to see if she would follow him. "C'mon", he said, without really knowing where he was going, "Or have you got too much studying to do?"

Kylie briefly hoped he didn’t think she’d been mocking him with how she introduced herself. It hadn’t been to sound mean, of course, she was hardly ever so. She was just trying to be… was witty the right word? Maybe not. Kylie smiled and nodded once he’d agreed with her. “Exactly!” Because there was no way one could expect to be outside on such a lovely day just to study. What a horrendous idea. Max stood up, putting the math book into his bag. Oh… was he leaving? He was quite tall. Kylie looked up at him, slowly shifting to get to her feet. Kylie had just righted herself when she felt a tug on a strand of her hair.
For some reason, it wasn’t the same. She didn’t like her hair being messed up. Perhaps she should avoid going around, petting anybody else’s hair from now on… Still, she had to be polite. “Thank you.” Kylie wasn’t quite sure if she liked how quickly he moved. Now, he was already walking away from her. He at least glanced back. Realizing she was to follow, Kylie quickly hurried after him. One of the many disadvantages to being short was having trouble keeping up with people so much taller than her. She made a face, “Uck, no!” As if. She wouldn’t study if her… okay, that was an exaggeration. “I don’t study.” Most of the time, she was lucky to pass the tests. "Where are we going?"
