Kayden was running late. She had been planning on meeting Jared for lunch, but she was stuck. There wasn't a single taxi that was on duty or empty, it seemed. So, she was still outside, after having been trying to hail a taxi for a full fifteen minutes. She had already called Jared and told him not to wait for her. She would be late, or wouldn't be able to make it at all. She stood there on the sidewalk, her hand on her back as she continued to walk up and down the side of the road, waving her hand for a cab as the stupid yellow cars continued to drive past without so much as slowing down.
"Is there not a single cab open in this entire bloody city?" She sighed a bit, hopping as she tried yet again to flag down a cab, and she kicked at the air as it the yellow vehicle passed her. Honestly, was chivalry completely dead? Then again, she was living in New York. People usually weren't very nice at all there. Pulling out her phone, she leaned against a light pole to send Jared a text saying that she still hadn't managed to catch a cab, since apparently they had a thing against picking up pregnant women. They must have all been afraid that the woman was going to go into labor in their car and give birth to an alien. For pete's sake, this wasn't men in black.
Sighing, Kayden stashed her phone back into the pocket of her jeans and resumed her waving, watching as car after car passed her by. Lunch obviously wasn't happening today. Stupid cab system. She should have just taken the bus. Or something.

The job search did not seem to be going well, for Caleb Marsden.
Though, honestly, the blame could probably be more put on him, than the lack of jobs. There were people hiring, and he had credentials. What he lacked was interest. Caleb Marsden was not meant to push paperwork or sit in meetings. e definitely was not made to wear a tie everyday.
Loosening the tie on his neck, Caleb sighed deeply. Stupid, stuffy, thing. It felt so weird on his broad shoulders, as did his neatly combed blond hair and trimmed up face. Not that grooming wasn't important to Caleb, just less intense since he had left the military. His blazer hanging from his arm, Caleb left the office that promised to call him with their decision within a week, he plotted out his next move.
Go to more offices?
Yeahno, that really wasn't happening...
Get some lunch?
Now that didn't sound too bad. And he could certainly go for some New York style pizza. Heading down the street, he set his sights on locating a cab. Of course, one had to keep in mind that cab drivers were, generally, sort of assholes. Perhaps it came from working in a cramped space for x amount of hours at a time. No matter the reasoning, one had to put ones self out there, to capture the attention of the zooming yellow cars of doom. A few feet from him, Caleb noticed a young woman having a bit of trouble. Not just a young woman. A pretty young woman. Pretty and pregnant.
With a soft sigh, Caleb stepped into the street a bit. If a cab really had no interest in picking him up, they'd have to swerve ever so bit, so as to not clip him. Chances are, though, that they'd stop. Insurance rates and all that, for hitting a pedestrian or getting into a fender bender. The cab stopped, the driver scowling in a surly manner. Giving a polite smile and nod, Caleb went to open the door to the back seat, remembering the pretty and pregnant young woman.
Hell.
"Ma'am?" Caleb called out to her, motioning at the back seat. "You can take this one. I'll wave down another." He opened the door wider for her, his smile a little wider than polite, crossing off his good deed for the day.

Kayden sighed, chasing down cabs again. Again, and again, and again, and again, and again. All to no avail. She finally gave up for a few minutes, leaning against a newspaper dispenser- one of those free ones that were always empty because the homeless people were taking them all to use as blankets. Those newspapers certainly never got read. Ever.
Tapping her finger on the empty tin box, she watched as cab after cab went past, completely losing her patience. She was a pregnant woman, for pete's sake- was there no good in the world anymore? Quite obviously.
Kayden looked over at a blonde man as he stepped into the street, a cab almost hitting him. Her hand flew to her mouth as she gasped, "Look out!" She would never even consider attempting that. In New York, the cabs usually would stop... but half a second too late. Thankfully, this one stopped before hitting the man. That was terrifying, and all of a sudden, Kayden's heart was pounding out of her chest.
She turned her attention back to the street once she was sure he was okay, but was surprised to hear him speaking. She looked around, confused for a moment, but then realized he was talking to her. "Oh! Bloody, I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were talking to me..." She shook her head, "No, I couldn't do that to you..." She thought about it for a moment, then bit her lip, "Where were you headed anyways?"
