personality
Boy Crazy. Yes, yes she is. She likes the way they walk, the way they sway, and the way some of them stand in that slouched over manner. She has only ever had one boy in her life, so often she lookes as random guys and will notice something that reminds her of her ex. But she is almsot always checking out guys.
Self concious. It's hard to guess that someone like her would be self concious. She styles her hair very carefully, choose her clothes even more carefully, and does her makeup just like so. But when she goes to take a shower, or go swimming in the pool, it tends to take a toll on her. Seeing herself naked, and the fact that she will never look like most of the girls she runs into--takes it's toll on her. She does her best to ignore it, adapting the 'plug your ears, close your eyes, and "lalalala" your troubles away' method of dealing with things.
Normal, yet conflicted. No, just kidding. But views herself as a normal person, or rather--how a normal woman should be. Not skin and bones, and not knobby looking. Women should be soft, warm, and something to hold onto. They should look like women, not twelve year old boys with tiny boobs. Even though she throws this confidence all around without a problem--she still has her own personal issues...
Recovering. Bella is recovering with a serious issue in her past. She had never been a skinny girl, and this had resulted in teasing. And teasing had resulted in very...catastrphic consequences. Though she seems brave, and strong--Bella is a very sensitive girl, and tends to retreat into herself if someone makes a comment about her. She can be extremely fragile, but often pushes away people who try to see that.
past
Bella grew up in a pretty average home, with a pretty average family, with a pretty average income. The was the eldest out of two sisters, and her parents are still (to this day) married. Everything seemed pretty fine, except they noticed all throughout her childhood, Bella had been...a little big bigger than her friends and classmates. First, it was thought to be just some baby-fat, and that she'd drop it any time now. They kept telling that into her preteen years, and put in a false hope in her head that before her first year of highschool, all the hurtful names would stop, and she'd be able to wear the types of clothes her younger sister did.
Unfortunately, that never happened. And cruel as kids are, Bella was again the butt of all the fat jokes. Every time she bit into a cupcake, or opened a bag of chips, it was guilt. Guilt that eventually caused her to start pushing her toothbrush down the back of her throat. Guilt that came back up, before it could be digested, and the weight but back on. And again, unfortunately--her body went into starvation mode. Meaning any food that was digested was immidiately stored into her body, her body doing the best it could to protect her, unsure of the next time she would eat. Which in turn, had the reverse effect. Bella didn't stick with it long enough to starve her body of it's saved evergy---the sudden weight gain again send her spiralling into madness.
She was sixteen when the hurtful names finally took its toll on her. The painful, constant rejections finally grew to be too much. And she raided her mother's medicine cabinet for the muscle relaxers, and then climbed into the tub. It was her sister that found her passed out, with the water coming up just a little past her uncoincess sister's chin, and then finally. Finally, did someone take her seriously. The fact that the playful jests about her weight, the pressure to be thin, and the unplayful, cruel jokes from family and peers was finally too much for her to handle.
Bella got the help she needed. She was admitted to Sacred Heart Hospital's Mental Ward, and there she was put on a special diet, to help her loose the unhealthy weight that was on her. Counseling, to help her accept who she was. And group therapies, to show that she wasn't the only one hurting. It's also where she met Calvin. Calvin was special, and Calvin was unique. He always smiled when he saw her, and he never made a mean joke about her--not once.
They had become friends in their group sessions, and sessions where the patients were allowed to socialize and play with each other. Even after Bella got checked out, she returned to see Calvin. For a month, it had been a strange relationship. They both had agreed they were dating, in a very strange way. But Bella had never had a boyfriend before, and she was willing to take what she was given. The relationship continued, even after Calvin got checked out.
The relationship lasted until Bella was eighteen, and Calvin was nineteen. She had the fairytale idea in mind. She loved Calvin, and was almost certain Calvin loved her. Only something was amiss. After being together for so long--they still had never had sex. And Bella pestered Calvin about it, and asked--only for him to avoid the question. She had gained a confidence in herself, and was taught by her nutritionist--that her body would never be skinny and thin. She would be able to be in limbo, but just because you wern't skinny, didn't mean you were unhealthy. Bella felt desireable, and good about herself, so she didn't understand why Calvin avoided the question.
Until one day he just stopped answering his texts and calls. He had moved, because his apartment was empty. And his parents didn't answer the door to her. Only for a week after for Calvin to call and say he had left to move to New York, to transfer for college. And he thought that if he told her, she'd beg him to stay or worse, beg to go with. He continued to explain that he wanted to feel the freedom of college, and had what it had to offer.
After hanging up with a devastated Bella, one of those hurtful comments from so long ago finally came back in a text. Sent by someone she loved.
'Plus, I don't think these girls would crush me if we had sex.'
present
Instead of throwing Bella into a spiral of depression again, it changed into something else. A determination. Oh, there was no doubt that it hurt. And she sad around crying, moping, and eating buckets of Ben and Jerry's. But after she was able to think through the hurt, she finally got determined. She was GOING to go to Barrie University as well. And so help her god, was she going to make Calvin eat his words.
She gave herself a makeover, something to match the inside confidence she had been growing. Away with the messy ponytail, and too big clothes. She learned how to style her hair, and decided she liked loose, natural looking curls. Highlights in her hair to make the flat brown come alive. How to apply soft, natural colors of makeup. And her now favorite part--clothes. She found stores that catered to women of size, and began shopping. She also found that clothes didn't have to be loose, that tight clothes on a big girl--as long as they fit right--could be just as good as anything else.
Feeling like a new person, Bella enrolled into Barrie University, and once she got her acceptance letter, she packed. She was leaving Hell, Michigan. A place with a little less than 300 people. A place where everyone knew everyone and everyone's business. To the big, bustling city of New York.
Bella still battles with her weight and depression, but she's being medicated for the depression, and for the most part--she can lock those feelings in a box, in the back of her mind. But that box can only hold it for so long.

-Abigail Jenna Bastion, 43, works in mediation for a resort/timeshare
-Kathie Piper Bastion, 18
likes
-Food, especially Ben & Jerry's, or McDonald's Frappe's
-Cardio, like walking, jogging. But she especially likes swimming
-Boys, everything about the guys she meets seems to remind her of Calvin.
-The City, it's a nice change because not everyone on the street knows her. So she can pick and choose who gets to learn about her.
-Shopping, there's a lot more stores here, and she can actually go in and try things, rather than buy them online and hope they fit.
dislikes
-Her Weight, even though she's made peace with it, and accepts that's who she is, it still sometimes gets her down.
-Her depression, when it hits, it hard for her to get out of bed.
-Calvin, catch 22. She loves him, but she hates him for breaking her heart over something so superficial.
-When shopping goes wrong, like when nothing fits. It can be extremely discouraging.
-Fat jokes, even with her new confidence--the fat jokes still hurt her, and break her heart, even if you don't see it on the outside.
-Other people being teased, she doesn't like when other people get teased for something. Because she's been on that end, so she know how much that it can hurt. She usually tries to put a stop to it.
other notes "Bella Morte Bastion". That's her name, and she is incredibly proud of it. Rock of the Beautiful Dead, and it even has its own story. Granted is much, far too dark for her, and a little too bizzare that she's from Hell, and has that name.
Regardless. She was named Bella Morte (she was born very well before the Anita Blake novels, thankyouverymuch), because of the fact when she was born, they had assumed she was a stillborn. She didn't kick or scream. The nurses had continued to work on her and tried, and they couldn't. When they brought the corpse of the child to he rmother to say goodbye--the child sprung to life with a miracle, and began screaming it's high, infant wail.
And she was lovely.
Bella Morte. Beautiful Corpse.
...literature*
book title The Little Mermaid
backstory Adella is one of Ariel's older sisters. There's not too much on her, but in the classical Disney film, Adella is depicted with black hair in a...really jacked up hairstyle. Seriously. Is she a narwhal, or something?
ANYWAY. In the Disney version, Adella is shown to be a little bit heavier than her sisters, and is often boy crazy. Granted she's mentioned as one of Ariel's sisters in the book, for reason of plot device, I'm pretending Adelle in the original version is like the one in the classic book. Legit, right?
-The fourth sister was more timid; she remained in the midst of the sea, but she said it was quite as beautiful there as nearer the land. She could see for so many miles around her, and the sky above looked like a bell of glass. She had seen the ships, but at such a great distance that they looked like sea-gulls. The dolphins sported in the waves, and the great whales spouted water from their nostrils till it seemed as if a hundred fountains were playing in every direction.
