personality Lachlan adheres to a strict code of apathy. When looking at a half-full/half-empty glass, Lachlan just sees that there's water in the glass, and that's all that matters. Most people assume he's pessimistic, that he has a bone to pick with the world, but frankly, Lachlan just doesn't care. He's always the neutral presence in an argument and the 'calm, cool, and collected' one. He doesn't have strong principles, the only one he really follows being, "Let others live their lives." That said, he never involves himself with the issues of other people, even the few people that he may ever get close to.
See, Lachlan rarely gets close to anyone. He doesn't dislike people, and he doesn't prefer solitude, but Lachlan doesn't feel that inherent need to be around others. He doesn't usually have anything to really let off his chest simply by virtue that he never involves himself with that kind of drama, and so he doesn't need any sort of confidante. He usually keeps many acquaintances and maybe one close friend, but for the most part Lachlan would rather waste his time in large crowds with attractive strangers he may never see again.
Unfortunately, Lachlan can be hard to bear as a stranger. He's honest to a fault, completely unafraid to tell it like it is. Lachlan has no reservations when it comes to the truth, and this tends to get him in trouble with strangers. He doesn't let feelings get in the way of his responses; he's just as likely to tell a sensitive stranger that her butt looks big in those jeans as he is to tell an understanding best friend.
past Lachlan was born December 3, 1984 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He was the son of an architect and a store clerk, but more importantly, he was the younger brother of a manic depressant. When his parents discovered his brother’s condition, Lachlan was only six, and it couldn’t be said one way or another whether he too had the disorder. As his brother began to act out more and more, their parents became increasingly protective of Lachlan until he could hardly go out without receiving an entire interrogation. Of course, at his young age, Lachlan couldn’t see that his parents did it to keep him safe, and so he became rebellious of their rules.
Lachlan was resentful of the tense environment at home, and tried to occupy himself with anything he could to get out of it. He was more often than not on house arrest, during which time he would spend studying or reading. When he was able to sneak out, he found himself in the wrong crowd, smoking, drinking, doing drugs, or whatever the local kids he could find did. He never considered himself to have a place to call ‘home,’ and he gradually became as indifferent to the world as it seemed to him.
Still, despite his less than reputable hobbies, Lachlan did surprisingly well in school, likely because of all the time he spent studying alone. He was accepted to New York University, and being an ocean away from his now constantly fighting family seemed like a dream. He moved to New York straight out of high school and, after four years, graduated NYU with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Finding no desire to return to his poisonous family environment, Lachlan found a job that earns him just enough to continue living in New York, at least for the time being.
present It wasn’t long after moving to New York that Lachlan fell back in with his old crowd. He spends his nights at the bar, drowning himself in the loud music, flashing lights, and the booze. He hooks up with people recklessly, and rarely calls back, and a lot of people in the clubbing scene know his face. In the daytime, Lachlan eases off the hangovers relaxing in the park or reading at the library when he’s not at work.
He hasn’t contacted his parents in over three years, and quite frankly, doesn’t care to. He’s following the mantra of “the past is in the past,” and doesn’t seem to have to work hard to keep it there. Lachlan plans to work on his masters in psychology and is thinking about becoming a psychology teacher, but he isn’t quite ready to leave his nightlife ways behind him. Lachlan’s not cleaning up his act yet—it’s just a matter of when he’ll realize life is not all sex and alcohol.

backstory The Magic Mirror is just that--a magical mirror. Although it doesn't show the reflection of the person looking at it, it does show reality as it is with no reservations. The mirror is seemingly omniscient, knowing not only the goings-on around its physical frame, but also things happening outside of the room, and even the castle. In the beginning, the mirror only serves as a tool to feed the Queen's vanity, as she asks it every day, "Who is the fairest of them all?" to which it would honestly respond that she is.
One day, however, the Mirror replies differently, claiming that despite the Queen's extraordinary beauty, there was one fairer than even she. It is because of this that Snow White is banished from the kingdom and plotted to be murdered. Later, however, it is discovered that Snow White survived, as the Mirror tells the Queen, "Snow White still lives, fairest in the land. 'Tis the heart of a pig you hold in your hand."
