God, she hated hospital food SO much. And she'd been limited to a "heart-healthy" diet since apparently her heart had started beating irregularly fast for a human heart since the incident that landed her in the hospital. 'Well, I guess that makes sense since it's part rabbit now...' she thought to herself, then shook her head in frustration of how completely batshit crazy that sounded even in thought. Whatever. She wasn't here to criticize herself, she was here to eat some damn cake, a thing that hadn't been allowed since they'd noticed the so-called 'anomaly' with her heart.
The decision to go to Gingey's had been made recently enough. On her birthday she'd been brought a red velvet cake with buttercream icing and dark brown sprinkles in the shape of various bunnies. It had been absolutely perfect. And once this decision had been made, she'd received her hospital bill. Though her parent's insurance covered most of it(being semi-dependent on them had its perks), she'd still racked up quite a bit that still needed to be paid. So the next choice she'd made was to get a job. And where better to get a job than the place she'd already been craving for months? She was a pretty good baker and could work pretty fast. Besides, she'd never heard of the particular patisserie before, so she was hoping that if her sweet tooth hadn't managed to pick up on them that they'd possibly be hiring.
She walked into the bakery and almost had to just stop and stay there forever at the smell. Oh, she loved the smell of baking.... ANYTHING, really. Cookies, muffins, cakes, cupcakes, scones, the works. But the door closed and hit her back, causing her to move forward with a little embarrassment. There were only a few other customers, and, sure enough, there was a sign that said "HIRING" on a wall.
Looking around, she didn't see a single thing that didn't look completely delicious. Sitting on her knees, she looked longingly at the assorted treats. She wanted a lemon poppyseed muffin first... And she'd probably take some carrot cake home, though she grimaced at the unintentional pun. 'It is my opinion that a spot of tea would be lovely with all of this,' said the bunny, and she would've glared at the calm and homicidal thing for appearing outside of her mind if that hadn't sounded like a good idea.. "I wonder if they have tea..." she said aloud, still stuck on staring at the confections on display. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - LITTLE DARLING, I FEEL THAT ICE IS SLOWLY MELTING little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - tagged; Cleooo! Gingey’s, like, made her heart sing. Gingey’s made New York suck less and made her day. Every day. Because she went every day. It was sort of a ritual now. Today was like any other except her mom had dropped her off at the bakery today instead of having to take a cab or walking. Mom had stopped in to grab something before heading off to go grocery shopping. The smell of pastries and drinks and the atmosphere in here was perfect. She could spend her entire life in this place and never get tired of the same foods and she would never get bored of it. Perfection, that’s what Gingey’s was.
She’d gotten her favorite ocean-themed cupcakes today, two so far, and was sitting at her favorite table. It was closest to the counter and yet somehow had the best view of the street outside. Cleo loved when things always worked out like that. It was like the world just wanted to work to Cleo’s favor. Which she was happily ready to believe. The door opened and Cleo glanced up from her Harry Potter book (the third one, by the way) to see who had decided to eat at the best bakery ever today. Cleo let the book close when she caught sight of the girl’s hair. It was blue. Okay, so red hair sometimes could be a little odd and unique (not unique, actually), but still. This girl had BLUE hair. She was also kind of familiar though Cleo couldn’t put her finger on it; she was too focused on the blue hair deal.
The girl made her way to the counter and kneeled in front of it. Being near-by, Cleo decided to say something. … Also, tea now sounded really good. “They have tea,” Cleo told the girl. “Also, your hair is, like, really awesome. I can’t even… it’s… how do you get it that color?” She asked, finally figuring out what she wanted to say.

He loved this place. Rhys wasn't exactly sure why, but aside from the original Gingey's back in Florida, this storefront was his favorite place to be. And he was the only one working it. Was it the solitude that he liked? Rhys doubted it; he liked it just as much when it was crawling with employees.
Maybe it was the whole New York thing? He didn't think that was it either, since he didn't really like much of New York. It was teeming with people. The only upside he could see was that the huge population increased his chances of having a huge amount of people come into the store.
He sighed, and hefted the filled tray onto his shoulder. The lobster tails had sold like hot cakes today, and the chocolate roses had been gone since mid-morning. In the first break of the day Rhys had been focused on refilling his display case, and the last tray somehow seemed to take the longest. Not that he minded much, since the store was currently empty ('cept for Cleo, but she didn't count), and he needed a bit of a breather. The morning rush had been a bit insane, what with people demanding coffee with their morning sweets and some magazine team showing up to watch him work. He was going to have Candace have words with those people as soon as he could pick up his phone and - but the front door just gave a ring, and now he was back to work.
There was a girl with blue hair peering into his display case. It was an eye catcher, but Rhys let it slide; Adeen's was bright pink, after all. He heard Cleo mention something about tea, and inwardly sighed. He hoped this wouldn't be another long order.
"Welcome to Gingey's, sorry for the wait. I'm Rhys, how can I help?"

She always envied gorgeous natural hair color like that. She made a point of growling internally before the girl turned to look at the person who'd come in and Beth glanced away quickly. The rest of her was just as damn gorgeous as her hair, too! As she was reading a Harry Potter book, Beth decided in her head that this girl was most likely awesome as well as gorgeous. March scoffed at her easy assumptions and sniffed at the scones. Glancing at them as she admired the baked goods, she heard a voice from behind her.
“They have tea,” Cleo told the girl. “Also, your hair is, like, really awesome. I can’t even… it’s… how do you get it that color?”
Beth looked up at the girl with curiosity and nodded in recognition before her face spread into a grin. "Well, If you want this exact shade, or any exact shade, there's a place downtown that can find the exact color of hair dye you want if you show them something with the color. Like the paint commercial, but hair dye. Of course, you'd have to bleach it first, unless you want to buy a color several shades lighter than what you're going for, and it usually isn't very exact when you do it like that. Bleach and permanent dyes damage your hair, though, so I use color-treating shampoo and damage-repair conditioner. Keeps my hair soft and keeps the dye lasting longer. For you, though, the most I would do is something semi-permanent, since permanent chemically alters your hair and I love your color too much to advise you differently." she rambled, before blinking slowly as she remembered what she'd forgotten. "Oh, and thanks. I love tea~" she said before standing up. For the second time in five minutes, a voice came from behind her.
"Welcome to Gingey's, sorry for the wait. I'm Rhys, how can I help?"
She turned again this time to find a man, and a rather attractive one at that. Did ridiculously pretty and handsome people just hang out here or something...? Shaking this thought from her head, she smiled politely at him. "Oh, Hello, I wasn't waiting at all. Uhm, I'd like an Earl Grey tea, if you have it, a Lemon Poppyseed Muffin, and a job application." she ordered... and asked for. "If you still have any openings, that is." she added, though judging by the fact that he seemed to be the only one there she was pretty sure she was safe.

Cleo was already confused. Three sentences in and the girl had lost her. Was it non-girly to know nothing about hair products? Cleo tugged on a strand of her red locks. She should probably learn more about dyes and conditioners. All she’d ever really cared about was whether or not the shampoo and conditioner smelled good. So long as her hair smelled like fresh strawberries or mountain spring water, she was happy. Apparently, there were such things as color-treating shampoo and damage-repair conditioner. That was pretty cool, though. Maybe she would go to that place downtown just to see if they really could match colors like they could in paint commercials. Cleo smiled brightly, fluffing her hair a bit. “Thank you! I like it, too.” Realizing it was polite to often compliment others in return, she gestured to the girl’s hair. “I love your hair. Blue looks really good on you.”
Rhys showed up at the counter then. Cleo shifted in her seat, folding a leg beneath her. She opened the Harry Potter book and resumed her reading. Except now her mind was wandering and she couldn’t focus. She kept thinking about how she didn’t know enough about hair products, how she knew too much about swimming and pastries, and how she was now really craving a Lemon Poppyseed muffin. Letting the book close again, having read maybe a paragraph, Cleo hopped off of her seat and joined the girl at the counter. “You should try the cream cheese brownies,” she suggested, pointing to them in the display case. Cleo leaned against the display cases as if hugging them and spoke to Rhys. “Could I get a Lemon Poppyseed muffin as well?” she asked innocently, hoping nobody would be upset that she was interrupting an order. “I’m Cleo, by the way.” She said to the girl, feeling an introduction was necessary. Why didn’t she introduce herself to everybody that walked into Gingey’s? She should be friends with all of them.

Rhys chuckled to himself, lowering his tray into the display case, playfully glaring at Cleo's arms all over his nice shiny glass. He honestly couldn't wait till he hired someone else. He had surely gained three inches of muscle on his arms by lifting these heavy treat trays alone. When Adeen next saw him, she may even be able to sit on one, and that was saying something.
And then, there were words.
"Lemon Poppyseed Muffin, coming up. And while you're waiting, come back here, grab an apron. You're hired."
That was MUCH easier than he ever thought it would be. No stress, no hassle, no interview; the girl was pretty, straightforward and eager. What more could he ask for?
Plus she had colored hair. Awesome, right? At this rate he was going to be the Man with the Rainbow Women or something. God help him if the tabloids ever got a hold of this.
"And Cleo," he said, reaching for two lemon poppyseed muffins, "I catch you loving my display one more time, I'm giving you a frosting facial, got it sweets?" Not that he meant it. Cleo was still, even in Rhys' confused mind, sort of like a cuddle bunny. She was his and no one else's and when he got his hands on that idiot Jacob, he was going to wish he'd never been born. Or something.
"Blue," he said to the newest addition to his personal human crayon collection," mind the front. I've got a few things to do in back, k?"
And then, he left.
