“Yeah, told you I was gonna dye it. I kinda go between red, orange, and yellow. Any other color just looks weird on me.”
“Hmm, I think you could pull off blue. It’d look pretty sweet on you,” Jamie stated casually.
With his face covered in hair and his thoughts being held back he relaxed. Then Joey touched his face. She was lightly pulling away his hair. He wondered what she was doing. Maybe she was just being silly but he felt like it was something different. Maybe that was him but she looked to be having the same feelings he was. He pulled his hand up to touch hers and a look of passion was displayed openly in his eyes.
“You’d be surprised at how many people get mad at me for being Joey.”
He grabbed her hand and kissed it lightly. He sat up and said, “I like Joey when she’s Joey. I wouldn’t have it any other way.” His voice was lower and slightly seductive. He really wasn’t so sure about this. It felt right but, he wasn’t sure if it was good. He felt good but—He felt good. This was the first time in a while. He must be doing something right then. Okay, go with it.
Joey leaned into kiss Jamie and he was prepared this time. When she pulled away he put his hand on her cheek and smiled. He leaned in and took a leap. His lips met hers and he began to kiss her passionately. All doubt had left him and he found his other hand squeezing hers like at the hospital.
But Jamie wasn’t in pain.
Far from it.

Things were most definitely different, now. She could feel his hand on hers, and her fingers reached out to trade the slightly raised lines of the tattoo permanently inked into his skin. “Well good, cause I like Joey being Joey. Jamie being Jamie is pretty rad too,” She teased, though the lilt and chirp she got when she was bubbly was gone, and instead her pitch changed, matching Jamie’s.
This was definitely weird—weird good though. Not something she was use to; she wasn’t new to the game, but she wasn’t a constant player of it either. The others felt like she was supposed to feel that way because she was a girl. But with Jamie, it was just so easy. When she was excited and bubbly, he was too.
When his hand found her cheek, she leaned back in easily, as though he were some sort of magnet. Her lips crashed against his, and she listened to the normal crunch of the beanbag as she leaned on it, her knees still on the floor. Her hand shifted in his, lacing her unmarked fingers with his decorated ones, squeezing back. Her lips retracted from his, though she remained close enough that when she spoke, her lips brushed his, “Yeah, you’re pretty rad." She murmured, opening her eyes to glance at them, her eyes bright and shining, and having trouble keeping the grin off her pink face.

“Well good, cause I like Joey being Joey. Jamie being Jamie is pretty rad too,” “Yeah,” Jamie said slightly in a trance. He was amazed at how naturally they came together. It’s like this was almost perfect. He couldn’t wrap his head around it. Not that he really wanted to. He was perfectly happy on cloud nine with Joey and her amazingness.
The beanbag crinkled as Joey leaned against him in their embrace. When she stopped kissing him he smiled through his desire for more.
“Yeah, you’re pretty rad."
“You’re definitely more rad than me,” Jamie bantered lightly. He shivered when her lips lightly touched his and ran his hand through Joey’s hair. He lifted up his head and kissed her cheek. His chest ached a little when he flopped his head back down and reminded him he still was injured. Damn, the advil must be wearing off.
Jamie continued to play Joey’s hair and smile while looking into her shining eyes. He just wanted a few more minutes before he went back to being the cripple and she went back to being his friend taking care of him. Although, she was doing a pretty good job of it if Jamie said so himself.
He twitched a little bit as the throbbing soreness of his chest came back. He squeezed Joey’s hand involuntarily and squirmed a bit. “Sorry, I need advil… or you could kiss me more?” He smiled and hoped Joey would choose the second one.

Joey leaned into his hand when he touched her hair, before drawing her other hand up to her head. She tugged at the rubber band that kept her hair in a pony-tail and let the crimson hair fall down around her shoulders in feathered layers around her face.
“The normal person of me wants to get Advil for you,” She mumbled, leaning in to kiss him again, “But this,” And again, “Is much,” once more, “More fun.” The final kiss she pressed against Jamie’s lips was a little harder, a little more intense. It was almost bizarre. She enjoyed being around Jamie, she enjoyed making him laugh and giggle. She liked the look on his face when he realized she wasn’t leaving his side as the hospital.
But there wasn’t that drop in her stomach that told her she had a crush on Jamie, or felt more. Though, he made the blood pulsing under her skin burn, and come alive. Her hand gently tangled in his hair, before forcing herself to ease off and draw back to catch her breath. “Woah.” She mumbled, and raised her brows at him, the corners of her lips lifting upwards, “Sure you don’t want that Advil?”

Jamie watched as Joey’s vibrant hair fell around her face. He lightly pushed her hair aside and stroke her cheek with his thumb. This felt so right for him. He knew he didn’t love Joey(he wasn’t sure if he could really love anymore) but they were friends and friends could find each other hot. It wasn’t a new concept for Jamie. He’d done it before, but none of those girls made him feel like this. He was literally burning hot everywhere she touched him.
“The normal person of me wants to get Advil for you,” She mumbled, leaning in to kiss him again, “But this,” And again, “Is much,” once more, “More fun.” The final kiss she pressed against Jamie’s lips was a little harder, a little more intense.
Jamie cupped Joey’s face with his hands and kissed her back. His whole body was on fire and his heart was racing as the kiss got more intense. He couldn’t relax or breath. It was such a rush. Joey pulled away to catch her breath and Jamie just kinda collapsed.
“Woah.”
“Woah indeed.” Jamie said once again playing with a piece of Joey’s hair idley. He was fairly certain Joey was some sort of gorgeous angel thing or maybe a seductress like a siren but without the killing part. She had him in a trance. He was fairly certain he’d never be able to be alone with her again if she said enough and walked away. The thought of that made Jamie’s chest hurt for another reason. They were friends. She liked him for who he was and he liked her for who she was. If she wanted him to back off he could. If she wanted more he could do that too.
“Hrm? Pain what pain? I don’t remember pain.” Jamie kissed Joey’s forehead. “But seriously I’m okay. It don’t hurt no more.”

The touches of his hands on her pale skin was driving her almost crazy. She felt lightheaded and dizzy, even though her breathing was going back to normal. She chuckled under her breath when Jamie’s body seemed to collapse in the beanbag. She wiggled between his knees, and put her hands on the sides of the beanbag holding herself up. That was much more comfortably than awkwardly twisting around the edge of the seat.
If Joey could see into his mind, she would probably run off laughing. Angel, seductress, siren—none of that she’d ever think would be applied to her. She could admit she was cute at times, but her idea of sexy involved wide hips, high-heels, large boobs, and long hair.
“Well, as long as you’re feeling better.” She smiled, and closed her eyes when she felt the lips on her forehead. She relaxed slightly, leaning onto Jamie chest, trying to be as careful as she could to not cause him any pain. She rested her cheek on his chest, before leaving a little kiss there, before peeking up at him. “So, you sure you don’t want that Advil?” She teased, a grin spreading across her face, seemingly at ease leaning on her friend’s chest.

“Well, as long as you’re feeling better.”
“Much better,” Jamie added. He adjusted to get himself comfortable and wrapped his arms around his friend’s waist. She kissed his chest lightly and his heart started up again. He held his breath and relaxed. “You comfy?” he whispered in her ear. He loved having her this close. It drove him crazy but he really loved it. He kissed her neck and her cheek lightly.
“So, you sure you don’t want that Advil?”
Jamie chuckled and pulled her closer. “I’ll take some when you leave, which I hope isn’t soon,” he said in a moment of weakness. He really hoped she was feeling the same way he was. He really had no idea what had started this. Oh right the skirt.
He hadn’t planned it this way. They were going to sit around and watch Spongebob and talk for a few hours before Jamie passed out again and Joey snuck out.
But Jamie was pretty sure he’d never sleep again. His heart was racing but he never felt more comfortable. Joey and him seemed to fit together perfectly. From the playground to here on his beanbag chairs. Why was he even doubting it? It came natural for the both of them. That had to be saying something. “Hey Joey, can you promise me something?” he asked. He held out his pinky and whispered in her ear. “Promise me if I become a total douche that you’ll drag me somewhere and remind me who Jamie is. Por favor?”

Joey's body almost seemed to sink into Jamie's, fitting to his like a puzzle piece. "Mmhm, yep!" She chirped from his whisper, her shoulders raising up when he kissed her neck. She puffed her cheeks out at him, before deflating when he left a kiss on her cheek as well.
"Nah, I'll stay as long as you want me to." She rested her chin on his chest, and peeked up at him. It went from hanging out at a park, getting a tattoo, and getting beat up--all in one day. To this, in such a short amount of time. It felt like a lifetime of experiences rolled up into just a few minutes time in the real world.
"Sure, I'm good at promises." She raised her pinky also, wrapping the tiny appendage around his. Her expression softened, when she remembered the reality of his situation. The ultimatium he was given that horrific night. She tilted her head to the side, and turned her hand to hold his, instead of the wrapped pinkies. "I promise. But I have faith in you, Jamie, Peter--whatever. You're good, and it's not fake. Which means that you will always be capable of the person you are. And even if everyone else leaves you, I'll be right here no matter what."
Joey wanted to tell him he'd be okay, she wanted to tell him that everything would be alright. But those would be lies, she couldn't predict the future. "I think I held up pretty well on that night of ass-kickery. I've got your back, in anything. Even if it means I have to kick your ass to make you realize how wonderful you are." [/center]

Jamie giggled at Joey’s reaction to him kissing her neck. He really wanted to kiss her some more but he also didn’t want to get carried away. This was his friend Joey and didn’t want her to run. Even if she said she wouldn’t, Jamie knew that everybody had their boiling point. He didn’t want to scare her away.
The thought made Jamie smile. Ha. Scare Joey? That’s funny. He really admired her fearlessness. Maybe if he hung out with her long enough he’d catch some of it.
"Nah, I'll stay as long as you want me to."
“Well in that case, you wanna sleep over?” he joked. It really just kind of fell out of his mouth. It probably wouldn’t have meant anything if they weren’t tangled up in together on these beanbag chair. The teenage part of him wanted her to say yes but the logical part of him was kicking him in the head. Ow. Headache.
"Sure, I'm good at promises."
Jamie squeezed Joey’s pinky. He happily accepted her hand after a few seconds. It felt better that way really.
"I promise. But I have faith in you, Jamie, Peter--whatever. You're good, and it's not fake. Which means that you will always be capable of the person you are. And even if everyone else leaves you, I'll be right here no matter what."
“I’m glad someone does. Especially since that someone is an amazing person named Joey,” Jamie said. He squeezed Joey’s hand a bit when she said Peter. He didn’t like that name but he’d have to get used to being called it again. No way any of the people in the Alleyway would except his name change. They wanted Peter. Not Jamie. But Joey wanted Jamie, and J wanted Jamie, and maybe even Cleo. He had a lot of people who liked him being the good guy. He liked him being the good guy.
"I think I held up pretty well on that night of ass-kickery. I've got your back, in anything. Even if it means I have to kick your ass to make you realize how wonderful you are."
“Haha. You definitely were brave. I don’t want you to get hurt again for me though,” Jamie held Joey closer and added. “Also I think you’d have to do more than kick my ass. I can be pretty stubborn.”

"I don't mind. But I'd have to raid your clothes again." Joey being Joey--didn't really take the offer as anything promiscuious. That wasn't something at the forefront of her mind, even tangled up with him. She squeezed his hand when his fingers wrapped with hers.
"Friends do things for each other, and I don't mind taking a beating if it means helping you somehow. So you're gonna have to stop that whole idea." Joey was a tomboy, through and through. She did have her feminine aspects--but she also believed that girls could do anything that a boy could do. And Joey wasn't about to back out of a fight, or let someone back out just because she had breasts and no balls.
However, when Jamie pulled her tiny frame closer, the girl bit of her brain kicked into overdrive, and her face flared to life. She blinked her large eyes at him, the few scattered freckles on her nose disappeared in the blush that took over her face, "I've got my ways. I turn into Voltron when I'm in ass-kick mode." Her voice dropped a bit, and the corner of her mouth tugged--but the usual, wide grin didn't spread on her face.
Instead, she shifted to sit a little more comfortable in Jamie's lap, damn greatful for the shorts--before leaning in to kiss him again. She decided that she liked the feel of his lips--they were soft, and she didn't feel like he was trying to eat her face.

"I don't mind. But I'd have to raid your clothes again."
Jamie tried to not cheer but in his head there were fireworks spelling out WOOOOT! He held it in though. Instead he gave her a warm smile when she squeezed his hand. "Yeah, I can find something," Jamie said casually. Be cool, Jamie he thought.
"Friends do things for each other, and I don't mind taking a beating if it means helping you somehow. So you're gonna have to stop that whole idea."
"Okay okay. I know. I sometimes wish you could spare me some of that courage you have," Jamie joked. "You're definitely a lot different than any of the girls I hung out with... back then. They ran as soon as they found out. I even lost my first love that way." Jamie had a hard time saying the last sentence. He really was opening himself up to Joey. He hadn't been able to do that with anyone really. Not even Cleo.
"I've got my ways. I turn into Voltron when I'm in ass-kick mode."
Jamie laughed. "That'd be pretty cool." He meant to say more but Joey moved closer to him and pulled him into another kiss. This once he felt was more intense and he found his hands inside her shirt. He hooked his fingers on the end of the shirt and started to lift it slowly. His heart was racing and he was waiting for her tell him it was okay. It didn't really feel wrong to him but he was pretty sure he was going a bit fast. Although they were like that. They became fast friends. Why not other things?

Joey shrugged her shoulders again at him, when he mentioned her courage. “Funny thing is, I have none. I act like the world is a video game. Live every moment to its fullest, and hope I have a 1-Up waiting for me when it’s all over.” Her smile faded slightly when he mentioned previous girls running from him. Joey moved her hand to brush her thumb against his cheek, and leaned in to kiss his nose, “Well, you’ve never had a friend like me before. I won’t let you do anything stupid.”
She honestly felt that way. There was a tug, and attraction to Jamie. But there wasn’t that breath-taking, pit-falling feeling of love. She felt close, like she was supposed to be there for him. And help him, and she hadn’t ever felt needed---even a little bit, before. And that feeling was only more emphasized when his inked fingers tugged at her shirt, and lifted it. Exposing the bare, nearly white skin of her sides.
Joey sat up a little taller in Jamie’s lap, and silently helped him lift the shirt the rest of the way, letting it drop to the side of the beanbag. She swallowed hard, and looked at him, before reaching up to tug out her ponytail. She wasn’t entirely comfortable at being perched in a relatively new boy’s lap, wearing just a black bra and a pair of basketball shorts. She didn’t have an amazing physique, her waist didn’t pinch in—her hips weren’t wide. It was almost a straight line, with the smallest change between hips and waist to show she was still a female.
Her chest was also on the small side—normally none of this would have ever bothered Joey. But she wanted Jamie to like her, and he had with her clothes on. Typical girl, she thought to herself, a little disgruntled, before turning her attention back to Jamie; nervousness in her green eyes.

“Funny thing is, I have none. I act like the world is a video game. Live every moment to its fullest, and hope I have a 1-Up waiting for me when it’s all over.”“A 1-up? That’s a cool way to put it,” Jamie mumbled. Joey was making him all kinds of happy. If his mind could jump out of his head it probably would. The way her smallish hands felt against his face, the way she kissed him. It didn’t feel like love. It felt more like magic. They shared it. He and Joey. Joey and him. Friends with a pinch of magic. Friends with amazing benefits. Yeah something like that. “Well, you’ve never had a friend like me before. I won’t let you do anything stupid.” “Definitely not,” he said. His lips found hers and before he could catch his breath, Joey was taking off her shirt. She’s goregous he thought. He didn’t want to say it aloud to ruin the comfortable silence that had come between them. Instead it shone in his eyes right before he took of his own shirt and began to kiss Joey more intensely than he had the whole night. He let his hands feel the shape of her body and yet again found them yearning to feel more. He hooked his fingers under the waistband of her, well his, shorts. (The idea of getting into his own pants probably would have been funny to Jamie at that moment if he wasn’t otherwise preoccupied.) And the rest my friend is not to be dicussed unless behind closed doors

Words quickly evaporated in the air, and turned into feather y touches and sighs.
--
Joey curled her legs in, her brows furrowing slightly, burrowing into the blanket slightly. The blankets smelled strange, and even felt weird too. She let out a little groan, and kept her eyes closed, trying to assess the situation. There was a soreness in her hips, and in a more...private region. And she was aware that she didn’t have a shirt on, but her panties were back on her hips. She peeked one eye open slowly, before the other. It was still dark out, so it was either extremely early in the morning, or extremely late at night. Joey turned slowly, and carefully, and came face to face with Jamie.
The afternoon’s events suddenly came rushing back into her mind, and it caused color to rush in her face. She sat up slowly, and carefully, trying to keep from waking him. She slid out of the bed, looking around. Where had her shirt gone? Silently, she moved back towards the main area of the dorm, and found a shirt, and pulled it on. It was still dim, and she didn’t want to wake Jamie with the light—so she wasn’t aware that it was his shirt she had pulled on. Quietly, she snuck into the bathroom, and cracked the door before turning on the light.
“Holy sex hair, Batman.” She mumbled to herself, leaning into the mirror for a moment. Her red hair was all kinds of messed up, and she had a dark shadow from her makeup under her eyes. Turning on the sink, she wet her hands and washed her face, before catching sight of something. One hand wrapped around her hair, and pulled it to the side. Her neck was scattered in blossoming bruises, that only made her raise her brow and grin. So, Jamie was a vampire. That was good to know. But what now? It was dark, and should she walk home? Crawl back into bed? Crash on the couch? Would be bad if she snuck into the kitchen to grab a snack, and look at the time?
This was not her forte, at all. Sighing, she turned off the light, and quietly opened the door.

Jamie was having one of those dreams where everything was too warm and happy to be real. No, it wasn’t a wet dream. It was like sunshine, warm blankets, fresh lemonade, and a bunch of other nice stuff mixed together to create this yellow color. That’s all that Jamie could see was yellow. All he was that he was so blissfully happy. Maybe he was dead. This could totally be Heaven.
But with a slight jab in his chest, the bright yellow disappeared. Jamie woke up to find his bed empty and the light glowing from behind the bathroom door. It wasn’t even nighttime when he passed out with Joey in his arms. He wondered briefly for a moment the last time he had made love to a girl. He really didn’t count the dark ages making love. Back in high school was the answer. He’d been young and stupid; she was and probably still is a whore. And he thought she loved him.
It was safe to say Joey was different. They shared a bond that was like the closest you could get without love. Well, he loved her. But like a friend. He’d take a bullet for her. (Jamie tried not to think about how realistic that phrase could be with him) but he wouldn’t get married to her. By maing love they were kinda like sealing the friendship forever. Yeah. That sounded pretty cool, And it was fun too.
After Jamie figured that out he sat up a little. The pains in his chest had woken him up and he thanked carpenters for his nightstand. He opened the drawer and popped a few Advil in his mouth before lying back down and closing his eyes. Just after he did he heard the dorm open. He smiled and said, “Hey beautiful.”
