And with Jamie’s words, Joey jumped and stumbled backwards, bumping into the door. “Oh—hey!” She grinned, peeking in the dim room, before settling on the edge of the bed. There was no use in being awkward, they had just done the dirty, and being awkward now, would undo the friendship that had come so easily. She leaned in to press a kiss against his cheek, then scratched the back of her head. “I didn’t wake you up, did I?”
“Do you have any idea what time it is? I can’t find my phone.” She glanced over the room again, looking to see if he had a digital clock. “Because I had the major munchies, and either I’m ordering a pizza when I find my bag. Or I’m walking to Taco Bell.” She ran a hand through her hair, and winced when her fingers got caught. Quickly, she tried to smooth down the messy, frizzy hair, before flopping sideways onto the pillow, peeking at him curiously. “Do you need anything? Water, Advil?” She offered, remembering that Jamie wasn’t entirely healed, and he didn’t particularly act injured earlier. Which meant he could possibly be a lot more sore than she currently was.
Joey felt closer, and safe. Granted, she hadn’t ever felt safe around people before. She was her own safety, she watched her own back. But Jamie was easy, just the way he spoke, or looked at her, made her feel comfortable. No, she too, wouldn’t marry Jamie. She wouldn’t marry anyone, but she would be extremely sad if one day, they weren’t friends anymore. Mackenzie was a good friend, they had fun together, and laughed together. But there was an understanding with Jamie, that she and Mackenzie didn’t have. Jamie was her best friend—though she wouldn’t vocalize it, as she wasn’t exactly the mushy-gushy sort.

“I didn’t wake you up, did I?”
“No, no. Just a weird dream,” Jamie whispered. There were so many questions in Jamie’s head about what Joey thought about the whole… thing but most of them were answered when Joey kissed him on the cheek and said something about Taco Bell. He could totally go for some caffiene and food right now. He attempted to get up and found the Advil wasn’t working yet. As the pain wore off Jamie realized Joey had asked him a few questions.
“1:47 A.M. and could you pick me up two soft tacos while your there?” he croaked. “And maybe a soda too. Please.” It had been a while since Jamie didn’t want to talk a lot. The pain felt like someone put a fifty-pound bag of wet cement on his chest. Dull and suffocating. He’d be fine soon though. He absentmindly played with Joey’s hair and found the little spots on her neck. Lovebites are what he called them. His friends called them hickies. Jamie wasn’t even aware that he did that. The blind passion from a few hours ago was about an eleven on a scale from one to ten. “Thank you for staying,” he mumbled in her ear. She’d probably put it off as nothing but it meant a lot to him. He kissed her one the top of her head and wondered if this would ever happen again.
“Hey, that’s my shirt.” He cocked his eyebrow and smiled. “You might want to put pants on before you go to Taco Bell. No that you don’t look cute but it’s a bit cold you know,” Jamie said. He closed his eyes and took swallow breaths to avoid the pain. Only a month until it’d be gone completely. Hopefully he’d avoid any other injury. All he had to do was do his job. Then he’d be fine.

Joey flinched when she saw Jamie try to move, when he was still in pain. Her bruises for the most part were gone, there was still some tenderness in her face from where she had been slapped with a little more force that her delicate face was made for. Granted, she'd never describe herself as delicate, but being so small--it was hard to be anything but. "Not a problem." She smiled at him, watching his face while her fingers toyed with her red, messy hair.
After the previous events, touching Jamie, and being touched by him seemed easier. It didn't seem to cross any lines, and there wasn't that awkward pull of wanting-but-shouldn't. She grinned at him, and shrugged her shoulders. "Yeah, well somehow. I don't think walking in a miniskirt and a tight shirt. In New York. At two in the morning. Is a very good idea." She raised her brow, before sliding backwards off the bed.
"Luckily you're small--" She paused, about to make some comment how she could steal his clothes if Kenzie tried to experiment on her again. But the size comment completely took her mind in a different direction, and slowly, a smile curled over her lips, before her teeth flashed. "Actually, no, not really. Take that back. Not small." She was still grinning, even as she leaned down to pick up the shorts, stepping into the them.
She tightened them around her hips with a grin, before--literally--skipping our the door. She swept up her kangaroo backpack, that she could now see with her eyes adjusted to the light, and exited the dorm. It was easy to be around Jamie, of course she still had her normal, usualy bouncy energy. But she realized she was less rambly now, like Jamie excited her, and calmed her all at the same time. She pondered this over, while she walked down the street, while still listening around her. New York wasn't always the safest place, especially when you got off campus, she had learned that first hand.
Joey entered the taco bell, leaning against the counter, her legs lifting off the ground while she made her order. She was suddenly very awake, and she felt refreshed. Sliding down to the side, she continued to ponder the events that happened since she moved to New York. She thought about Las Vegas, if she missed it. Missed the hot, dry weather. The way the roads seemed to steam in the summer heat, and in contrast--how the nights could be so cold, that it was actually dangerous. No, she didn't miss it. She had just about everything she wanted here.
A school with other people, friends, Jamie. Jamie got his own category--why, she wasn't entirely able to explain. She took her bag of food, and drink, and carefully tucked them inside of the kangaroo bag. Reaching on the outside pouch, she grabbed her lighter and cigarette pack while she stepped out of the store. She then put both straps on her shoulders, so the cup wouldn't burst, and began walking back to the dorms.
Her mind remained relitively clear, but it was hard not to run up the steps to get to Jamie. To go bounding back into the bed. The attatchment made her somewhat uncomfortable, but it was a nice change, all in all. "Chow time, cripple!" She called when she made it back into the dorm, locking the door behind her, before going to the small table to lay out the food.
