So basically, most people at Lost Boys didn’t so much seem to…well. The people that lived here seemed to be a bit glum. Or maybe it was just because she was new, and it was some kind of test. Like she had seen in the movies. So, to try and cheer them up, she had attempted to throw a party. But she had never been invited to them, or the ones she actually had gone to were birthday parties for kids. So, her efforts were a bit strange. There had been a nice cake she ordered from WalMart, a few bottles of pop, and alcohol. She had debated on cone hats-because she loved them. She thought they were hilarious, but again. Probably not the best choice for grown adults. So there were multicolored sparkly cone hats, shoved under the table in the back that she hadn’t had the urge to pull out yet.
Marley had knocked on all the doors of the rooms, letting people know that there was food, and cake, and drinks, and music. But she had been, for the most part, ignored. Either they were asleep, flat out ignoring her, or not home. Which resulted in her sitting on a chair, facing the cake, fiddling with one of the sparkly hats in her hands. Pink glitter stained her fingers and the top of her thighs. Granted, it looked like there was more glitter on herself, than on the hat anymore. The cake was starting to look a little bit sad, the buttercream looking like it was starting to melt a bit. So the colored streamers around the area, and the balloons she tried so hard to get inflated without passing out, seemed to be completely out of place.
She glanced up, her lips scrunching to the side. Part of her felt silly now—this looked more like a kids party, than anything else. But parties didn’t always need to involve drunk people, or drugs, right? They could be just plain, good fun. And as begrudgingly as some people might be, it could be a lot of fun! She was sure of it. But the fact that no one even wanted to come down, and try made her feel stupid. That parties like this should stay in childhood, and not bother coming out again. It wasn’t for anyone in particular, just fun. Just to get to know the neighbors…or roommates, or whatever the hell they were to each other.
Brushing the glitter off her legs and onto the floor, and crumpled the hat in her hands, tossing it to the floor as well. She began plucking the colored streamers off the walls, and grabbed a fork from the table and began viciously stabbing at the balloons, making them pop loudly. So help her God, if any of them so much as complained about the noise. “Stupid, stupid, Marls. Stupid. You’re dumb.” Another habit of hers. She scolded herself, when there was no one else to. It comforted her, because her sisters had done it so often. It made her feel like they were there with her, and that she wasn’t actually so frighteningly alone.
