personality
Quick-Tempered - He is really a sweet guy. Very mild mannered, and easy to please. When he's with his students, he is a very genuine, humble man. However, all it takes is one little tick. One little snub, or just the wrong placement of words. And he is OFF the handle. He will tear your head off in a fit of rage, and only think to apologize after he calms back down. He's never gone off in front of a student, so he has some level of control. But it's only a matter of timing.
Obsessive - Some might say that David is meticulous. Everything around him is orderly, and neat. He cleans his fingernails three times a day. This makes him Obsessive Compulsive. However, once he gets fixated on something, be it a new book, a drawing he wants to do, or a new challenge to take on, it becomes all he thinks about. It literally consumes his life.
Easily Controlled - Once you have his complete trust, he will do whatever you ask of him. He will be our puppet, your little slave, and he will do nothing but your bidding as long as you ask him.
Ephebophilic - Yes, this is a part of him. Ephebophilia is classified as feelings of desire towards adolescents from the ages of 15-17. It is wrong, and he spends most of his time trying to curb his strange urges. He knows the cause of it (explained below), and he attempts to desensitize himself by working at the local high school. As of now, nobody knows his dirty secret.
past
Tyler Thorne and Julia Haislup had a...complicated relationship. They met in high school, where Julia was a fourteen year old freshman, and Tyler an eighteen year old senior. They were instantly drawn to each other, and cultivated a secret and forbidden relationship. They each had to keep up appearances, with fake boyfriends and girlfriends, which in turn made the other jealous, which had them breaking up and getting back together every other week.
Eventually, after a particularly nasty breakup followed by a lot of breakup/makeup sex, Julia found that she was with child. She was only 16. At the time, Tyler was 20, so he couldn't do anything for her without going to jail. This left them in a bit of a bind, but Julia's parents were supportive, and helped her through her pregnancy. It was revealed who the father was, and Julia's family allowed her to marry the man she loved. Finally, Tyler and Julia were together. She was seventeen years old when she gave birth to David Leslie Thorne. She was also seventeen years old when she died. Due to complications during the pregnancy, Julia was lost. Mr. and Mrs. Haislup were inconsolable. Tyler was just determined to get out. In a haze, he took the baby, and left, keeping the one piece of Julia Thorne he had left. He got a job, and raised David on his own, never hesitating to tell his son about Julia.
David grew up with a strong sense of survivors guilt, and consistently hearing his father talking about his mother. "My Julia never seemed to age," he would say, working on his 8th beer of the hour, "she was always as pretty as she was the day I met her, a pretty little fourteen year old." Constantly bombarded with pictures of his dead mother, David grew up with....a lot of issues. Not to mention the abuse he received from his father, who did of course blame the child for his love's death.
When David was 18 year old, he moved out, to go to college. He was fixated on becoming a teacher. It wasn't until he was 23 and dating a 17 year old that he realized that something wasn't quite right. After poring over his various psychology texts, he diagnosed himself with acute Ephibophelia, and attributed it to the survivors guilt of 'killing his mother.' He quickly broke up with said girl, and ran from her to a place where nobody knew him, where he could start over and curb his odd fetish.

He finished his schooling in New York, and tried to tell himself that he was cured, after having successful relationships with various women both his own age, and even older than him, but still, he can't help certain thoughts that cross his mind. He has currently enrolled as a teacher at Frank L. Baum academy as a professor of Art and Philosophy. He is currently in a relationship with a 25 year old 'artist' named Leilana, but that probably won't last.

...literature*
book title Alice In Wonderland
backstoryThe only description given of it in the “Jabberwocky” poem is that the hero should "shun the frumious Bandersnatch", this particular portmanteau being a concise way of describing the creature's fuming and furious nature. Other advice given to the beamish hero proving quite accurate, one must dismiss the possibility that the speaker within the poem was uninformed about the Bandersnatch, which, however, does not actually make an appearance in "Jabberwocky". Thus it is clear that the Bandersnatch is not of a size or character to be embraced. Elsewhere in Through the Looking-Glass, however, it is implied (but not stated) that a Bandersnatch is quick-moving, and that there may be more than one of it when the White King says: "She runs so fearfully quick. You might as well try to catch a Bandersnatch!"It is not stated whether there are non-frumious Bandersnatches, or whether these can be approached safely, merely that the hero of the poem must shun a Bandersnatch that is frumious. At the same time, it may be that 'frumious' (a mix of the words "fuming" and "furious") is not a merely descriptive adjective, but a definitive one, describing the essential quality of the Bandersnatch. Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark (Fit the Seventh) settles some of these questions: in an encounter with a bandersnatch it is described as moving swiftly, having a neck it can extend, and having snapping, frumious jaws, with which it tries to grab the Banker.
