"Just watching the water makes me anxious," Andy said, tracing ripples of Wollman Rink's pool with her fingers. She turned to a cluster of boys, who all nodded subconsciously. The rink probably wouldn't be open for a month or two, and it was just horrible watching all those kids swimming. No, she wanted to feel that wonderful feeling she got when she skated smoothly around the rink in all that sweaty equipment with her friends. She usually played on Friday nights in this rink and she would NOT play in any others. No, Wollman Rink was perfect and she would never skate anywhere else.
The boys around her were starting to sink into the water, passing around a basketball. Andy herself didn't like swimming, especially wearing those stupid bikinis. No, she liked sitting on the edge in shorts and a tee. So she tried grabbing some of the guys and making them sit next to her, but they swatted her hand away and continued the whole volleyball/basketball game they were playing (Andy didn't keep tabs on those sports. No, she stuck with football and ice hockey).
"Now I feel left out," she pouted. One of the boys pointed out that she could put on a bikini (he wiggled his eyebrows like the perv he was and Andy promptly kicked him on the head), but the others shrugged. There simply was nothing to do.
"You know, you COULD show us that tattoo of yours..." One of Andy's closer friends, Andrew, slipped in next to her. He punched her in the shoulder.
"No way. You persuaded me to get the stupid thing in the first place, I think YOU owe ME." Andrew shrugged and shimmied back into the game when he noticed his phone was ringing. Getting out he took the phone and looked at a message.
"Oh, hey, are you going to Ashley's party tonight?" He asked. Andy raised her eyebrows; she had no idea what he was talking about. The others seemed to, though, because they also got out, dripping wet, and pulled on a shirt with their trunks. They seemed pretty darn excited.
"Uh... No?" Andy said. Andrew, turned around (obviously texting somebody), said,
"Oh, that's too bad. We've gotta leave for it now. Seeya tomorrow?"
"Seeya tomorrow," Andy weakly replied as they all left in less than a minute. Why hadn't she been invited? Oh, right. She had no idea who this Ashley was. It was a bit ironic; Andy had become more boyish than real boys. It was pathetic, actually. Andy sat back on a lawn chair and stared at her feet. She felt very out of place. She'd never been excluded from the boys before... This was just so embarrassing.
Staring at her toes, Andy reluctantly set her stuff down. She didn't want to leave and go to her dorm. No, it would be better to stay here and sulk like she always did.
