personality Anyone who hears the name 'Melanie Van Bueren' would probably think of the fashionable princess of Monaco who is kind, though maybe a little judgemental at times. But overall a nice person to know and maybe be friends with. Which is a good thing, because that's exactly what Melanie wants: for people to know her and like her. Growing up the way she did, it's almost impossible to say that she wouldn't want positive attention, seeing as she almost never had any. No, Melanie was always outdone by that scheming little "goody-goody" of an older sister in any event. So when she moved to America, her plans were simple: to be loved more than Genevieve. In all reality, this kind soul is cool and calculating, always making sure people see her as someone they want to see as opposed to what she really is. And what she really is is selfish.
Oh yes, Melanie would not care if her so-called best friend committed suicide, as long as she wasn't hurt physically, socially, or mentally in the process. She's spent her whole life having to care about herself since no one else did, so why should she care about others now? At least, that's what she tells herself. Somewhere deep down, she probably does care about certain people, it's just not prominent enough for her to notice. Her own success/well-being is all that she can see and focus on.
That's not to say she's never lost it in public, because no one can hold things in forever.
Melanie is rather vain, but also very self-conscious. How does this work? Well, she takes her appearance into very high esteem (always look better than Ginny, NOT look LIKE, but BETTER), but if something goes wrong, she is devastated and will spend hours trying to fix it if she can, holding up plans if she must. Mellie is a striving perfectionist when it comes to appearances, but as for everything else, she could care less.
Overall, the one tangible thing she really and truly hates is her sister. As much as she had built up to make her believe that she loves Ginny, she would not blink if her lovely sister were to die. Now this doesn't mean she would even think about killing her (yet), but it's damn well getting near to that.
For being the princess of a basically French country, Melanie is rather.... American. This is because she studied and observed American culture for many years. She knows surprisingly much about American movies and music and trends. Of course, she has still retained a French accent, but it's not nearly asscreechy and hard to understandpronounced as her sister's.
past 10 months after they had their first child, the Van Buerens had another. They were hoping for this one to be a son, but no. It was another daughter. They named her Melanie Juliette and cared for her for about a year. Then, all attention went on to Genevieve, her slightly older sister. As much as Melanie was told that it was only because she was the true heir, she was always envious of her parent's attention towards her sister. From early on, she was alienated, and knew she was pretty much alone. All along developing so much hate from the envy of her sister, who had the nerve to act like she cared about her. The one thing Melanie held over Ginny was the fact that she was always thin, almost too skinny of a child.
Then, when she turned seven, she found her escape. She had learned about some of her distant relatives immagrating to America many years ago because it was a place of freedom. Instantly, she became obsessed with the idea. As soon as Melanie turned 18, she wanted to move to America. Of course, she had to prepare, so she surrounded herself with American culture by listening to the music and reading the books and watching the movies, even trained herself to speak English with a less pronounced French accent.
When Ginny's anorexia and bulemia began, Melanie knew. She also knew that Ginny didn't want to become queen. But that didn't make her any more sympathetic towards her sister. If she didn't want to be the queen, she could have told someone, right? And maybe the king and queen would have let Melanie be queen if Ginny wasn't ready. Seeing as that never happened, at least not to her knowledge, Melanie continued to pretty much hate her sister. She did not support her when she would not eat, and she didn't try to stop it either. It's doubtful whether or not she even let on that she really knew what was going on.
Then, when it was time for Ginny to be crowned, she decided to come out and say that she did not want to be queen, then moved to America. Melanie wasn't sure to be happy that she was going to be queen, or to be upset that Ginny was living the dream she had for so very long. But that didn't last for very long, because Victorie came out with a secret: a son she had with someone who wasn't the king. Being the rightful Queen of Monaco, her son would be the heir to the throne, no matter what, even if he were younger. What Melanie didn't know was that she only revealed the secret because she saw an evil in Melanie, not because she didn't love her.
Melanie was devastated. So utterly devastated that she wrote out a suicide note, finally documenting what she really thought about her family. And she almost did it, too.
But then, she thought.
Why should she kill herself? Isn't that what they wanted? In her mind, her parents would have wanted to not deal with her, and she was tired of giving her parents what they wanted.
So she packed up her things. Not all of them, just her clothes and the 7 foot tall mirror that was her most prized possesion. She contacted Ginny and found out she was in New York City, and was soon on a flight out of there.
present Melanie enrolled at Barrie University along with her sister, and is a junior now. Now, you're probably thinking, why would she ever want to spend more time with her sister? Well, obviously because she still needs to prove that she is better, and prettier, and simply fairer than her sister. Everyone who thinks otherwise is just mislead. They're too preoccupied with the oh-so-perfect lady that is Genevieve Van Bueren.
The suicide note she wrote is kept with her at all times. She keeps it to remind her that she could have lost everything, rather than simply losing some of what she hated. Melanie has not considered suicide since that one day, and doubts she ever will. She's learned that it's not the answer; the answer is to solve your own problems or have someone do it for you.
Melanie still acts like she loves her sister, and pretends to be nice. It's the only way she can continue to prosper socially.
family
Alexander Van Bueren | 52 | King of Monaco | Father
Oh, Daddy, how do I put this? I'm the youngest daughter. You were supposed to love ME. Alas, I understand, though. Being a royal family, it makes sense that you would favor the actual heir to the throne. But do you know how that makes me feel? I know you have scolded me many times for all the bad things I did around home, but do you ever think that maybe I just did it to get your attention? Don't say you were just busy with being king. You had enough free time to devote yourself to Genevieve.
Victorie Van Bueren | 50 | Queen of Monaco | Mother
Mommy dearest, you insufferable harlot. I cannot believe that you would cheat on Father like that and have a son. I would be QUEEN if you had just dealt with Father like you should have. But no, now you have a son and the rightful heir to the throne, and now I am more of nothing to you than I was before, however that's possible.
Jacque Marx | 25 | Prince of Monaco| Half-Brother
Jacque, I have absolutely nothig to say to you. I would not consider you family if it were up to me, but I have nothing personal against you. It's not you fault you exist.
Genevieve Van Bueren | 20 | Princess of Monaco | Sister
10 months. 10 months separated me from the throne for years. 10 months allowed my whole family and kingdom to cast me out like I was nothing. 10 months made me the person who I am today. And you, sister. Genevieve, Ginny, whatever. I hate you. I hate you more than anything else in the world. Surprised? You should be. I always pretended like I loved you, though how could I? You stole everything from me and you never even realized it. Vas te faire encule.

book title Snow White & The Seven Dwarves
backstory The Queen is always described as being jealous and cruel, going to extreme measures to be the fairest in the land. And so she was, for a while, until Snow White turned seven. Every day she asked the mirror who the fairest of them all was, and until then, it was "You, my queen." Then it was revealed that Snow White was the fairest, and that just wouldn't do.
So she plotted to kill her. She actually tried three times, once by offering stay-laces and lacing her up so tight she faints, again by brushing her hair with a poisoned comb, and finally using that poisioned apple we all know and love. This one was the most affective, and when the dwarves got home, they put her in glass coffin because they thought she was dead.
Eventually, a prince comes along and demands to take the coffin with himto fulfill whatever necrophiliactic needs he had. While they were carrying her coffin away, someone stumbled and dropped her and a piece of apple dislodged, waking her up. The prince, still somehow attracted to her living and beautiful form, professes his love and marries her.
Eventually, due to some magic-mirror-consulting, the Queen finds out and insists on going to the wedding. Big mistake, because when she realizes that the bitch is still living AND has become a queen, she dies of a heart attack.
