Fauna didn't like to admit how dependent she'd become on the human inventions in the past years she'd been living in their modern world. She liked to imagine that, if given the opportunity, she would still be able to quietly slip back into her cottage lifestyle back in the mystical woods of her real home. Upon losing power, however, she found that this was not the case.
Fauna sat there, patiently, for about five minutes. She was sure that it was just a simple mistake. A routine glitch that was entirely due to some idiot falling asleep on the job and pushing a lever when he wasn't supposed to. She sat there, in her overstuffed armchair, twiddling her fingers and waiting for the lights to come back on so she could finish watching Beauty and the Beast for the fiftieth time in her all day disney marathon.
After five minutes, a car alarm wet off outside her window.
Normally, this would have been nothing. Just one more annoyance that Fauna would have to put up with in this modern hell she'd been thrust into. Tonight, however, it was just one thing too much for her to handle. That incessant noise, that infernal beeping, that BLASTED RACKET. Fauna wouldn't stand it. She had to distract herself, and without electricity there was only one thing to do. Sure, it was risky, sure it was probably a bad idea, but goodness gracious, she was a fairy for crying out loud and she would NOT be denied the right to use her magic when it was called for.
Leaping out of her chair, Fauna ran into the kitchen, flinging open her drawers until she found the slender wooden wand she'd been looking for. Of course, the process was a tad bit awkward and ungainly as she shuffled around in the dark, but now she had the tool and could get to work.
The first thing to be done was to get some lights on in the apartment. Waving her wand sporadically, dancing, sparkles of every imaginable color floated up about the ceiling, illuminating the apartment. Fauna smiled about the room, thinking of what next to do while the power was out. Obviously, the only acceptable next step was to get herself something sweet to eat. This was simply too traumatic an evening to do without some comfort food.
Waving her wand a bit more, Fauna watched as the entirety of her kitchen's utensils and ingredients hopped to attention. "Just the usual, lads." She moaned tiredly, slumping back across the room. "Just a quick smackerel of something sweet." Fauna plopped back down into her chair to the noise of various whirring and chopping and stirring from the kitchen as her utensils got to work under the glow of the rainbow lights.
